Patent number: 5018711Abstract: A clamp for use in aligning and installing cosmetic fronts on drawers includes first and second clamp body members which have respective connecting flanges adjustably secured by threaded fasteners. Juxtaposed threaded clamping jaws allow a cosmetic front to be clamped on a drawer face. The clamp is formed from thin sheet metal material and has an offset construction which allows the drawer to be closed with the clamp installed. The thickness of the sheet metal stock material is utilized to determine the spacing between a top edge of the cosmetic drawer front and the cabinet in which it is mounted. The adjustable connecting flanges allow the clamp to clear a "sub-top" which is present in some cabinets, thus allowing the spacing between a top edge of the cabinet top or adjacent drawer front to be precisely regulated.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1990Date of Patent: May 28, 1991Inventor: Douglas L. Patent number: 4934674Abstract: A two station, single action vise has a body, with a fixed center block forming oppositely facing fixed jaws, and movable jaws at opposite ends of the body that are moved by operation of a vise screw toward one of the respective oppositely facing fixed jaws in the center of the body. The vise screw is spring centered and will yield to apply a preclamp with one of the jaws onto a piece part. The movable jaws are shown operated by a vise screw that has left-hand threads for operating one of the movable jaws and right-hand threads for operating the other movable jaw, so that as the screw is rotated both movable jaws move simultaneously toward the center block forming the fixed jaws. In this way two work pieces can be clamped by the movable jaws against the center fixed jaw. In order to preclamp piece parts under a spring load the screw is moved so it can shift axially slightly under spring load after preclamping one part until both movable jaws are positioned to clamp their respective piece parts tightly.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1989Date of Patent: June 19, 1990Assignee: Kurt Manufacturing Company, Inc.Inventor: Leon M. Patent number: 4865300Abstract: An apparatus for handling tubing as the tubing is fed to a severing blade for severing into cut sections of predetermined length. The tube handling apparatus includes clamping jaws positioned at the location of the severing blade and a feed tunnel which is arranged rearwardly of the clamping jaws. The feed tunnel includes fingers at its front end which are telescopically received in drilled slots formed on the internal periphery of the clamping jaws so that even very short remnants of tubing occurring after the last full length section of tubing is cut will be maintained in alignment with the tube feed axis by the fingers of the feed tunnel to preclude movement of the remnant tubing into a position of disorientation or dislodgment where it would interfere with the operation of the tube handling apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1988Date of Patent: September 12, 1989Inventor: John J. Patent number: 4861009Abstract: A variable force exerting clamp assembly having a variable clamping area. A stretchable strap which deforms or "thins" to a smaller width in response to stretching is provided with a first work-engaging clamp secured at one end thereof and a second movable clamp which is slidable between the ends of the strap. The clamps are disposed for engaging a workpiece or workpieces between each other, and tension is applied until the strap is stretched to exert the desired force on the members, whereby, upon release of the tensional force, the strap tends to assume its original configuration, and the second clamp exerts a clamping force on the strap responsive to the strap expanding to its original width.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1988Date of Patent: August 29, 1989Inventor: Michael D. Patent number: 4843726Abstract: A stud alignment and positioning tool is set forth wherein a plurality of rigid jaws are securable to a series of wall studs by use of temporary securement means such as nails and the like. The rigid jaws are integrally secured to rigid interconnection members formed of angularly oriented planar portions. The integral connection of the rigid jaws to the interconnection members are at acute angles to one another to enable the instant invention to triangulate between framing portions of a studded wall developing rigidity and strength in the alignment and temporary securement of the studs.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1988Date of Patent: July 4, 1989Inventor: James E. Patent number: 4837926Abstract: Work holder for holding electrical connectors during insertion of terminals into cavities in the connector comprises a positioning fixture and a clamping member. The connector is clamped between one face of the positioning fixture and the clamping member. The positioning fixture has terminal guiding openings extending therethrough and has aligning and guiding surface portions which guide the connector towards these openings when the connector is being clamped in the fixture so that the cavities in the connector are in precise alignment with the terminal guiding openings. The fixture is intended for use in a robot and permits reorientation of the connector, from right to left, so that connectors requiring terminals in two different orientations can be accommodated.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1988Date of Patent: June 13, 1989Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventor: Andrew G. Patent number: 4836518Abstract: A fixture for workpieces which cannot be directly engaged by the work holder of a machine tool has a pallet for several work holding elements each of which has a head releasably engaging a workpiece and a section which is embedded in hardened casting material of the pallet so that the casting material does not contact the workpieces. The pallet can be a one-piece casting or is assembled of several reusable modules, and it has several mounting surfaces which facilitate predictable mounting in the work holder of a machine tool.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1987Date of Patent: June 6, 1989Assignee: Korber AGInventor: Reinhard Janutta

Patent number: 4828160Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus to be used when welding pipes together. The apparatus comprises a bellows structure (4, 5) for shielding the weld joint area by internal contact with the pipe ends on both sides of the weld joint (3). When the apparatus is inserted and, especially, pulled out after welding, the bellows tend to be damaged by the hot weld joint. It is the object of the invention to solve this problem. The object is achieved by providing both bellows (4, 5) with radial side supports (14, 15) dragging against the inner surface of the pipes and by arranging the bellows to contract within the radial side supports in the absence of an inner overpressure. Between the bellows (4, 5), centering discs (9, 10) are arranged on hoses (6, 7, 8) for leading a protective gas and compressed air. The hoses (6, 7, 8) are connected with the holders of the bellows by means of a through cotter pin provided with a spring (17) for keeping the pin stationary.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1987Date of Patent: May 9, 1989Inventor: Goran Sundholm

Patent number: 4825513Abstract: A modular adjustable clamp is provided for use in a multi-clamp assembly. The clamp comprises a frame, a clamp interconnection for connecting the frame to a second clamp, and a portion for engaging a cable. The modular clamp can be connected to the second clamp in an adjustable manner such that various sizes of cable can be clamped with various distances between the cables. A system may also be provided for stabily connecting at least two multi-clamp assemblies for use in attaching a connector to the cables.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1987Date of Patent: May 2, 1989Assignee: Burndy CorporationInventor: Michael A. Patent number: 4819386Abstract: A fixture and method for mounting one or more optic fibers and attached ferrule assemblies transverse to an abrasive surface. The fixture includes a holder plate (12) having one or more boreholes (14) disposed in axial alignment adjacent a peripheral edge of the plate and connected thereto by laterally extending slots (16). An upper portion (18) of the boreholes is relatively smaller in diameter than a lower portion (20). The optical fiber (26) and ferrule assembly (28) is slid into the borehole through the slot, seated in place, and retained therein by a retainer plate (22) having an aligned borehole through which an end of the ferrule assembly extends. The helical coil spring (32) provides a bias force to urge the ferrule assembly (28) against the abrasive surface.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1987Date of Patent: April 11, 1989Assignee: Northwestern Bell CorporationInventor: William H.
