  • Patent number: 4372351
Abstract: A frusto-conical shaped wire basket is formed of a plurality of upright wire loops welded in substantially perpendicular relationship to a plurality of wire rings. The baskets are formed by first welding wire connecting members to a plurality of arcuately shaped lengths of wire. Each of the arcuate lengths is of a different length and radius, and they are arranged concentrically in order of decreasing radius. The relative lengths of the arcuate segments are determined by the desired size of the finished basket. When the wire connecting members are welded to the arcuate segments in the first stage of basket production, there is formed a basket flat. The flat is then subjected to a conventional pinch roller mechanism which bends the flat into a conical shape. At that point the ends of each arcuate length are in face-to-face relationship and form a circle. The ends are then butt welded to close each circular ring to complete the wire basket.

  • Patent number: 4087239
Abstract: An apparatus for imparting combined centro-symmetric and noncentro-symmetric rotation to semiconductor bodies comprises a liquid-cooled sun gear, a stationary liquid-cooled ring gear coaxial with and radially spaced outwardly from the sun gear, and at least one planet gear disposed between and driven in engagement with the sun and ring gears. Means are provided for supporting a semiconductor body on each of the planet gears while minimizing the conduction of heat from the semiconductor body to the planet gear. Means are also provided for guiding a semiconductor body onto the supporting means and centering the semiconductor body on the planet gear. Thermal distortion of the apparatus is minimized when heated to extreme temperatures making the apparatus ideally suited for processing the semiconductor bodies with heat as in processing by temperature gradient zone melting.

  • Patent number: 4036484
Abstract: Advancing mechanism for a series of fixtures having collets for workpieces are actuated by a fluid actuated double-acting cylinder to lock and unlock the collet. A driven rotatable table has a plurality of equally spaced fixtures mounted thereon which are advanced seriatim to a plurality of machining stations where work is performed thereon. Each advancement moves a fixture to the unloading and loading station where the collet is released, the finished workpiece removed and a workpiece to be machined placed within the collet. The double-acting cylinder was actuated by the fluid to release the collet and after a workpiece was placed therein a reversal of the fluid clamped the collet in secured position. The collet is locked and unlocked by the operation of a transverse pin in a sloping slot in a sleeve which is advanced over the collet to move the sections of the head into clamped position to hold the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4018429
Abstract: A vertical multiple-spindle machine relating to metal cutting machines. This machine comprises a stationary column on which is installed a rotary worktable mounting hydraulic clamping devices and provided with fluid inlet ducts. The stationary column is provided with passages for feeding fluid medium to he hydraulic clamping devices through said ducts, with the worktable in a fixed position. The column is also provided with a circular groove which is arranged to communicate with the fluid source and is formed so that it has portions curved about the outlets from the passages whereby said groove connects the worktable fluid ducts with the fluid source during the rotation of the worktable. This constructional arrangement makes it possible to materially reduce fluid leakage, thereby providing stability of the required fluid pressure in the clamping devices, improving the accuracy of the machine and decreasing waste of power.

  • Patent number: 4004333
Abstract: A rotary turret numerically controlled punch press is provided with a discharge station at 90.degree. from a punching station. A part is clamped in the turret, separated from a larger workpiece and then rotated with the turret to the discharge station. A transfer arm is slaved to the NC punch press and engages the part at an exact attitude and position relative to a reference point on the part and transfers the part to a rotary chuck. The part is placed in the chuck at an exact attitude and with the reference point at the axis of rotation of the chuck.Four rotary chucks are provided on a rotary turret contouring apparatus. The turret is rotated 90.degree. to position the part at a cutting station.A band saw is provided with rotary guides for changing the angle of the saw. While the part is rotated and linearly translated toward and away from the saw by the contouring apparatus, the saw cuts a peripheral shape on the part with the blade changing its angular attitude where necessary.

  • Patent number: 3986617
Abstract: A machine tool is provided with a traversing work table that has a mounting plate supported for vertical reciprocation and rotary indexing movement. A pallet is supported on the mounting plate and releasably locked to it by a bayonet connection with a clamp ring which is selectively rotatable in the mounting plate; and the pallet also has an annular toothed coupling meshed with a segmented annular toothed coupling in the base. Rotary indexing is permitted by elevating the mounting plate only enough to unmesh the toothed coupling. Elevating the mounting plate to a higher level releases the clamp ring from the mounting plate, and at that level the operation of a pallet changer rotates the clamp ring to release the pallet for removal from the mounting plate. Further, a rotatable cover has flanges that are normally between the segments of the toothed coupling on the base, and the cover rotates simultaneously with the clamp ring so the flanges overlie the toothed coupling segments during pallet changing.

The apparatus includes a pallet mounted for rotation about its own axis, and substrate or workpiece holders mounted on the pallet which orbit said axis. Guides support the pallets and a cam follower on the pallet follows a cam to effect reciprocation of the pallet as it rotates, the guides being adapted for rotation about another axis which is substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the pallet. In another embodiment the substrate holders are also rotated so as to give four degrees of freedom of the workpiece or substrate relative to the material source.
