  • Patent number: 9242348
Abstract: The present invention allows multiple bar or c-clamps to be connected by one or more bars, the bars passing through the head and/or feet of the clamps, with provisions for locking the angles of the clamps about the bars joining them. This allows temporary jigs to be quickly assembled, with the angles of the workpieces held by the clamps to be fixed relative to one another at specified angles. In addition, parallelism of clamps holding a single workpiece may be maintained through the use of two or more connecting bars.

  • Patent number: 8267388
Abstract: Alignment assembly is used to center a sample on a moving stage system. The alignment assembly includes a pair of slides stacked on a stage with linear perpendicular movement relative to each other, and at least one actuator that is preferably physically separate from the linear slides and stage. The actuator(s) repeatedly extend an actuator arm to move the linear slides, and retract the arm for subsequent movement of the stage during and after the process of centering the sample in two dimensions on the stage. Either the stage system rotates, or multiple actuators are placed to move the alignment system in perpendicular directions relative to the stage, by repeatedly contacting only the top linear slide.

  • Patent number: 6032938
Abstract: A carver's vise for holding a workpiece to be carved includes a base mounted to a workbench, a clamp mechanism, a mounting plate, and a mounting plate shaft clamped to a base connector by the clamp mechanism. The base includes an angled portion that extends upwardly from a rear of the base to a point near the front of the base closer to the user. The clamp mechanism includes a clamp head holding the mounting plate shaft against the base connector, a clamp shaft located in a bore of the base connector, and a handle that tightens or releases the clamp from the base connector. When the handle releases the clamp head, the mounting plate is free to rotate about the clamp shaft. Grooves in the base connector and an O-ring allow the mounting plate to rotate in discrete angular increments. The mounting plate may also rotate about the clamp shaft and move back and forth through the clamp head.

  • Patent number: 5816568
Abstract: A lightweight component holding system which is simple to use, and in which an irregularly component may be readily positioned and repositioned for light assembly or inspection is disclosed. The system comprises: a side assembly having an elongated base having opposite ends and having; a carriage laterally slidable and lockable on the base, said carriage having; an upright column rotatably and lockably mounted on the carriage, said column having; a slide vertically and lockably slidable on the column, said slide having; an advancing shaft having a front projecting end having a component holding means attached thereto. At least three, and preferably four side assemblies have their opposite end portions interconnected so that they together form a stable planar component holding system, having a base center opening. In a preferred embodiment the advancing shaft comprises a holding means screw having a turning wheel on a rear end portion thereof.

  • Patent number: 5058869
Abstract: An adjustable angle vise is provided for clamping a cable to a fixed structure in order to free the hands of a person making cable connections. The vise comprises two vise-grip pliers, with the pincers of one having flat resilient blocks adapted to grip a fixed structure, and the pincers of the other having resilient blocks with varied diameter channels to grip a cable. The two pliers can be connected together at varied angles by toothed connecting hubs. The cable-gripping pliers has at least two such hubs oriented perpendicular to each other, to allow orienting the cable either along or perpendicular to the fixed structure.

  • Patent number: 4643410
Abstract: A coupling construction and a clamp therefor are disclosed which are operative with improved effectiveness in a workholding system for securing a workpiece at a work station. The coupling comprises a receiver and a carrier, and at least one of the clamps for securing the receiver and the carrier in a coupled position with high clamping pressures. The clamp comprises a clamp body, and a clamping element, a movable member, a spring assembly and an actuating assembly on the clamp body. The actuating assembly preferably includes a toggle member having oppositely facing knuckle elements thereon which are rotatably received in sockets for mounting the toggle member so that it is pivotable to actuate the spring assembly for biasing the movable member toward the clamping element.

  • Patent number: 4575062
Abstract: A coupling construction and a clamp therefor are disclosed which are operable in a workholding system for securing and holding a workpiece at a work station during a machining operation. The coupling which is preferably of substantially circular configuration and preferably comprises a substantially circular receiver which is securable at the work station, a carrier to which a workpiece is securable and which is receivable in mating relation with the receiver, and a plurality of the clamps which are operative for securing the carrier to the receiver in a coupled position wherein the carrier is received in mating relation with the receiver. The clamps are preferably disposed within the interior of the coupling and a drive means is also preferably provided within the interior of the coupling for manipulating the clamps between unclamped positions thereof and clamped positions thereof wherein they clampingly engage the carrier and the receiver to maintain the coupling in the coupled position.

  • Patent number: 4184691
Abstract: A workpiece holder for a vertical broaching machine for broading annular workpieces is particularly useful for simultaneous broaching of two ball-bearing races in the rings of homokinetic joints. A workpiece support, rotatable relative to a baseplate about a common axis and accepting the workpiece coaxially by means of a tightening device, is nonrotatably connected to a double-ended piston which can be subjected to the action of pressure-oil, the piston being guided rotatably and axially displaceably between two end positions in a cylinder. Complementary set of teeth are provided at one end of the piston and on a facing surface, nonrotatably connected to the baseplate, these teeth being in mesh when the piston is in the first end position, thus centering the piston and holding it in a nonrotational manner.

  • Patent number: 3981491
Abstract: On an upright support is an apparatus including a pair of relatively movable jaws between which a tubular frame member of a bicycle is securely clamped. One jaw has a rigid short sleeve terminating in a circular row of teeth adapted to mesh and lock with a similar circular row of teeth on the end of a rigid tube support in dentil fashion. Extending through the tube support is a shaft fixed to the short sleeve, which has a bushing bearing in the tube support. By a manually adjustable nut and screw device, the rows of teeth can be separated to enable the jaws to revolve thereby to position the bicycle in the most convenient work position. A manually adjustable nut and screw device enable the clamping jaws to be tightened or released.

  • Patent number: 3961780
Abstract: A precision rotary indexing fixture wherein a work support plate is rotatably journalled on a base. The plate and base each have a downwardly facing ring of teeth thereon. An axially movable coupling ring has two rings of teeth thereon which register axially and are adapted to mesh with the rings of teeth on the plate and base to fixedly retain the plate in a predetermined angular position relative to the base. The number of teeth in the two sets of rings may differ and the coupling ring may be rotated through a predetermined arcuate extent to obtain vernier angular adjustment of the top plate relative to the base through an arcuate extent of a fraction of the spacing between the successive teeth on either of the rings.
