Patent number: 5873568Abstract: A tool for supporting a rain gutter during its installation on a fascia board. The tool has a height-adjustable bracket and locking pliers with jaws having wide, flat working faces. Once several such tools are temporarily locked onto the lower edge of the fascia board, not only can they be used to support an elongated gutter but also each of the tools can be moved vertically without disturbing the pliers clamping it to the board, thereby making these tools especially handy for setting the height and slope of the gutter. For holding the adjustable bracket in position, each tool includes a mounting block which is rigidly attached to the back of a fixed jaw of the locking pliers and defines a pair of holes which extend parallel to the plane of the working face of the fixed jaw. The bracket is formed from an elongated rod bent to form an angular structure which terminates in a pair of parallel branches slideably insertable into the holes formed in the block.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1997Date of Patent: February 23, 1999Inventor: Roy M. Patent number: 5125324Abstract: A hydraulically operated device including a single-acting cylinder having a piston for operating a working tool, a pressure chamber for applying a hydraulic pressure to the piston from an original position to an operated position, and a return spring for biasing the piston toward the original position. The device includes a hydraulic pump for delivering a pressurized fluid to be fed into the pressure chamber of the cylinder, and an automatic drain valve for inhibiting the pressurized fluid from being discharged from the pressure chamber while a difference by which a delivery pressure of the pump is higher than a pressure in the pressure chamber exceeds a predetermined value. When the difference becomes smaller than the predetermined value, the automatic drain valve is operated to allow the pressurized fluid to be discharged from the pressure chamber. Thus, the automatic drain valve automatically drains the pressure chamber when the pump is turned off.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1990Date of Patent: June 30, 1992Assignee: Daia Industry Co. Patent number: 5101573Abstract: A tool arranged for the testing of automotive components, such as ball joints, is provided to include a handle pivotally mounted to an "L" shaped positioning leg. The positioning leg includes an upper cylinder mounted to the leg to receive a stud portion of a ball joint therethrough, with the lower cylindrical member defining a cup to receive a lowermost portion of a ball joint therewithin to permit pivotment of the "L" shaped leg relative to a handle pivotally mounted through the "L" shaped leg indicating deflection of a ball joint when the handle is pivoted relative to the "L" shaped leg. A modification of the invention includes magnetic insert members, each including parallel support legs to receive opposing ends of a shock absorber such as a gas-filled shock absorber to indicate resistance and deflection of the shock absorber in use.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1991Date of Patent: April 7, 1992Inventors: Loren T. Patent number: 5096170Abstract: A picture framer's tool of the type used to drive brads into picture frames shown in U.S. Pat. No. 4,763,825 is modified so that it may also be used as a clamp. The tool has two jaws, namely an inner adjustably positioned along a sleeve and a second jaw on the outer end of a rod reciprocable within the sleeve and extending beyond the outer end of said sleeve. The tool has a lever pivoted on a handle which causes the rod to reciprocate. One improvement is the provision of a wing screw or other fastener on the handle which engages the rod so that it is fixed in position. Another improvement is the provision of attachments for each jaw, one of which may be spring-loaded. Attachments include hammer heads, points, swivels and the like.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1991Date of Patent: March 17, 1992Inventor: Stephen D. Albin

Patent number: 5076552Abstract: An adjustable vise includes a toggle plier having first and second handles pivotally joined together to move relative to one another, a fixed jaw mounted to extend upwardly from one end of the first handle, a mounting bar pivotally joining the handles together and extending laterally in one direction from the handles generally perpendicular thereto, and a moveable jaw mounted on the bar to slide therealong and to extend upwardly to a spaced-apart position from the fixed jaw so that when the handles are moved apart, the jaws are caused to move away from one another and when the handles are moved together, the jaws are caused to move toward one another. A locking mechanism is mounted on the moveable jaw and is operable to selectively lock the moveable jaw in place on the mounting bar to thereby prevent sliding movement of the moveable jaw, or to unlock the moveable jaw from the mounting bar to allow sliding movement with respect thereto.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1990Date of Patent: December 31, 1991Inventor: Brian Challis

Patent number: 5009134Abstract: A bar clamp having a fixed jaw and a movable jaw which is radially movable over both short and long distances to clamp against a workpiece and is operable using one hand with complete control by the operator at all times. The jaws may either face one another while being mounted on the same side of a handle/grip assembly or face in opposite directions while being mounted on opposite sides of the handle/grip assembly whereby they may be incrementally advanced by the trigger handle/driving lever.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1990Date of Patent: April 23, 1991Assignee: Petersen Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventors: Joseph A. Patent number: 4932638Abstract: A stepping type expansion bolt extracting gun, making use of a shifting mechanism to shift a gun barrel by means of a stepping operation, and an arresting and releasing mechanism to prevent the gun barrel from returning. A check plate is provided to control the gun barrel to shift back to the original position. By means of said arrangement, the present invention is applicable to extract the live spindle of an expansion bolt in a labor-saving and most efficient way to replace the linking rod type actuation of the prior art.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1988Date of Patent: June 12, 1990Inventor: Tsun-Ping Chen

Patent number: 4926722Abstract: A bar clamp, which is operable with one hand, includes a fixed jaw and a movable jaw. The movable jaw connects at one end to a movable slide bar. One-way drive means, by operation of a trigger handle grip, releasably engages the slide bar and advances the movable jaw toward the fixed jaw. Return motion of the movable jaw is accomplished manually when the one-way drive means is disengaged. A braking lever, biased to bind against the slide bar, prevents reverse motion of the movable jaw except when disengaged from the slide bar. The trigger handle advances the slide bar by driving a second lever which binds against a slide bar surface. The second lever returns by spring force to its original position after each stroke of the trigger handle.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1988Date of Patent: May 22, 1990Assignee: Petersen Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventors: Joseph A.
