Work Holder For Cathode-ray Tubes Patents (Class 269/908)
  • Patent number: 7542546
Abstract: Sample mounts (10) for mounting microcrystals of biological macromolecules for X-ray crystallography are prepared by using patterned thin polyimide films (12) that have curvature imparted thereto, for example, by being attached to a curved outer surface of a small metal rod (16). The patterned film (12) preferably includes a tip end (24) for holding a crystal. Preferably, a small sample aperture is disposed in the film for reception of the crystal. A second, larger aperture can also be provided that is connected to the sample aperture by a drainage channel, allowing removal of excess liquid and easier manipulation in viscous solutions. The curvature imparted to the film (12) increases the film's rigidity and allows a convenient scoop-like action for retrieving crystals. The polyimide contributes minimally to background and absorption, and can be treated to obtain desired hydrophobicity or hydrophilicity.

  • Patent number: 5688328
Abstract: Apparatus for applying an antistatic and/or antireflective coating to the outer surface of a curved glass display screen of a cathode ray tube (CRT) includes a spin coating arrangement for rotating the CRT about its longitudinal axis after the coating solution is deposited on a center portion of the display screen. Centrifugal force and gravity urge the coating solution outwardly toward the edges of the display screen in forming a thin layer of uniform thickness on the display screen. A curved shield shaped in accordance with the display screen's curvature is disposed above the display screen in closely spaced relation thereto to form a chamber of stable air above the display screen and eliminate air turbulence and its tendency to spread the coating nonuniformly. The curved shield may include a center aperture for permitting the coating solution to be deposited upon the display screen prior to rotation and is adapted for easy attachment to and removal from the CRT's peripheral implosion protection band.

  • Patent number: 5383948
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for cracking off glass attached to, or comprising a portion of, the constricted end (neck) of the glass funnel component of a glass cathode ray tube and thereafter sealing a replacement glass neck component to the funnel component. A gauge and sensor mechanism are used to produce a signal representative of the location of a defined plane through the funnel. This signal is sent to a central processing unit which controls the apparatus so that the cracking off of the old neck and subsequent sealing of the new neck take place at that defined plane. In this way, the individual method steps are integrated into an automated process.

  • Patent number: 5277640
Abstract: A mount for supporting a cathode-ray tube is employed in a frit sealing furnace. The frit seal furnace (1) comprises a furnace body (3) and conveyor belts (5) disposed in the furnace body (3) for feeding mounts (21) which each support a panel (31) and a funnel (32) that are superposed one on the other with a frit glass (33) interposed therebetween. Each of the conveyor belts (5) is composed of a pair of chain belts (4a, 4b). The mount (21) is placed on the conveyor belts (5) in the frit seal furnace (1) through a space which comprises a mesh screen (26), so that the mount (21) is suitable for use in the frit seal furnace (1). When the tube body of a cathode-ray tube is broken, glass pieces are prevented from falling onto the furnace floor by the mesh screen. The mesh screen does not obstruct air flows in the furnace.

  • Patent number: 4883439
Abstract: A cathode ray tube fixturing device for position a face panel and a funnel during a frit sealing process. The device includes a cone holder for positioning a constricted portion of the funnel, and a movable abutting block which is adapted to abut against the panel and the funnel. A pivoting arm connects the cone holder with the movable abutting block, and at least one fixed abutting block is adapted to abut against the panel and the funnel and is located in opposed relationship with respect to the movable abutting block. When the funnel and the panel are mounted in the cone holder in assembled relation, their common centerline is vertical. In this assembled relation, the panel and funnel are urged against the fixed abutting block by the movable abutting block so that the seal from the panel to the funnel can be effectively produced and the fixturing device is reduced in weight.
