Abstract: A casket and method for manufacture are disclosed according to which a shell or base, having outwardly flared walls, is constructed of corrugated fiberboard by a technique in which a planar sheet of corrugated fiberboard is cut to form a blank having interconnected portions corresponding to the areas of the flared side and end walls. A domed lid is also provided, being formed of corrugated fiberboard with a reinforcing marginal frame, provision being made for utilization of the lid either as a single unitary piece or as a split lid having two halves.
Abstract: A burial vault includes a lid and a box portion. Depending rests are attached to the exterior bottom face of the box portion, so as to permit easy transportation of the vault. In another preferred embodiment the vault lid has recesses on its exterior face, which correspond to and are engageable with these rests. In still another preferred embodiment, these rests are self-burying in the ground in order to firmly seat the vault during use.
Abstract: A coffin comprising a box having a cover, an upper frame, a lower frame, and an inside fitting. The box has hinged lateral walls permitting its folding to a storage and transportation position in which its height is a fraction of its extended height. Alternate lateral walls are formed of only one flap hinged on one of the frames, the remaining lateral walls being comprised by two flaps hinged together along a middle line and to each of the frames respectively along directions parallel to that middle line. The cover is invertible on the upper frame, to a compact storage position.
Abstract: A casket shelf is mounted on the upholstery of a casket lid. The shelf includes a retaining portion which fits into a slit formed into the upholstery to support the shelf in cantilever fashion. The shelf may include a planar support surface, or mutually inclined support surfaces for supporting objects such as a book.
Abstract: A casket-installed guard for guarding a body and for shielding against contagion includes a plastic dome with margins having engagement features that can lock the guard in location sealing the viewing opening in the casket but permitting the viewing top to be in either open position or closed position over it; the margins are proportioned for detachable installation under inwardly overhanging edges and second top of the casket so that they are shielded from tampering; one of the margins has provision for securance of the unit by padlock.
Abstract: A display and burial system wherein a base has a lid member associated therewith which is movable between closed and open viewing positions. A two-part link holds the lid member in open viewing position with one link part pivotally connected to the lid member and the other link part being releasably connectable to a frame member of the base by entry into a slot or recess therein when the link is partially collapsed. An end of the second link part engages a pin within the recess and, thereafter, the lid member is moved to fully open position and the link parts move to a straight-line relation wherein the link is locked to the pin within the recess and the lid member is securely held in open viewing position. A reversal of steps enables disconnection of the link from the base with the link retaining its connection to the lid member and being collapsible to a storage position within the lid member.
Abstract: A display and burial system including a display base having an appearance similar to a casket base and having a supporting shelf along the upper perimeter thereof, a reusable casket-like movable lid unit removably supported by the supporting shelf to enable viewing of a body, and a cover unit positionable on said supporting shelf in place of the lid unit after viewing whereby the display base and cover unit provide a burial vault.
