Patent number: 7597311Abstract: A sheet bundle stored in a sheet storage portion is pushed from a predetermined folded position with a first pushing plate, and the sheet bundle is normally conveyed along with the first pushing plate and plunged into a nip between first folding rollers to make a fold. The first folding rollers are reversely rotated while the first pushing plate is retreated, and the sheet bundle with the fold is reversely conveyed and returned to the sheet storage portion. Then, a second pushing plate pushes the sheet bundle, conveyed through a U-shape conveyance path, from a backside of the fold to reversely fold the sheet bundle, and the sheet bundle is completely folded. Therefore, the sheet bundle having good appearance can be realized in good bundle folding processing.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2006Date of Patent: October 6, 2009Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Wataru Kawata, Hitoshi Kato, Keiko Fujita, Youichi Chikugo

Patent number: 4921235Abstract: A continuous web of paper which may be longitudinally folded in half is drawn around a rotating cylinder which cuts the web into pre-determined suitable lengths. Vacuum and air pressure means temporarily hold the severed portions of the web against the cylinder, but at an appropriate moment release the leading edge of the severed portion causing it to be lifted in its leading half away from the cylinder, the trailing half being retained by suction against the cylinder. The lifted leading edge folds backward against the trailing portion along a fold line, and subsequently the folded-together leading and trailing portions are released from the cylinder, transported away from the cylinder and into a stacking tray, for subsequent packaging. The cut and folded sections of the web are, at all times, held under control by a vacuum in one or more cylinders or conveyor belts until the very last moment when they are discharged into a receiving and stacking tray.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1988Date of Patent: May 1, 1990Inventors: Guglielmo Biagiotti, Mauro Ghilardi

Patent number: 4892297Abstract: To permit compact construction, a combination cylinder (3) having thereon cutting grooves for cooperation with cutting knives (5) of a cutting blade cylinder (4), grippers (7) and folding blades (8) receives a web or a plurality of superposed webs (2), to be cut into cut copy products or elements (17). The elements (17) are transferred to a collection cylinder (10), to be gripped by grippers (11) thereon and transferred to grippers (13) on a stapling head cylinder (12). The stapling head cylinder, if the stapling heads are energized, staples the webs together, and transfers them to grippers (7) on the combination cylinder which, in turn, folds the stapled sheets by operation of the folding blades thereon in association with folding jaws of a folding jaw cylinder (15) located adjacent the combination cylinder. The stapling head cylinder and the folding jaw cylinders are located, at least in part, laterally of the combination cylinder, so that the apparatus does not require substantial height.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1988Date of Patent: January 9, 1990Assignee: MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AGInventor: Ingo Kobler
