  • Patent number: 7354037
Abstract: A stapler is incorporated in a finishing device associated with a document creating apparatus. The stapler has a control circuit with a memory and is driven by a variably powered motor. An end user inputs the job parameter information at the control panel of the document creating apparatus for each different set of documents to be reproduced and stapled. In response thereto, the control panel sends a particular variable start pulse signal to the stapler control circuit. The control circuit senses the duration of the variable start pulse. Based upon the duration of the variable start pulse signal, the control circuit selects the motion control profile to be provided to the stapler motor from the various profiles stored in the memory of the control circuit.

  • Patent number: 7284752
Abstract: A sheet post-processing device of the present invention includes a jam-disposal mechanism for moving a moving section which is provided opposite to a staple tray to the outside of the device. That is, in the sheet post-processing device, since a portion of the moving section can be moved to the outside, it is possible to form a space in front of the staple tray. Thus, it is easy to perform the jam-disposal by using the space. Further, since the staple tray is not moved in forming the space, consistency of placed sheets is not lost. Further, since it is not required that a space to perform the jam-disposal is prepared inside the device in advance, it is easy to miniaturize the device. Thus, the sheet post-processing device of the present invention is a compact sheet post-processing device by which the jam-disposal can be performed without losing the consistency of a sheet bundle placed on the staple tray.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a sheet stacking device which stacks sheets thereon, comprising: a buffer unit which allows a preceding sheet to temporarily stay so as to superimpose the preceding sheet and a following sheet one on another; a sheet discharging roller which discharges the sheets superimposed in the buffer unit; and a sheet stacker which stacks the sheets discharged from the buffer unit. The sheets to be discharged in superimposition by the sheet discharging roller is superimposed in a state in which a rear end of a lower sheet in a sheet conveying direction advances in the sheet conveying direction more than a rear end of an upper sheet, and the lower sheet is previously discharged to the sheet stacker.

Abstract: An aligning device movable to a first position constituting a first sheet stacking portion for supporting a delivered sheet and a second position in which the sheet is not supported is provided downstream of a pair of delivery rollers, and the pair of delivery rollers are designed to be capable of assuming a first state in which they are capable of delivering the sheet, and a second state in which rollers constituting the pair of delivery rollers are spaced apart from each other. When the pair of delivery rollers are in the first state and the aligning device is in the first position, a sheet aligning and stacking portion for making the alignment of the sheet by the aligning device possible is defined by the first stacking portion and the sheet transport path between a reference wall and the pair of delivery rollers.

Abstract: In a booklet maker, as would be found in conjunction with a copier or printer, print sheets to be folded and stapled into a booklet are accumulated in a slot. At the bottom of the slot, a selectably extendable contact member presses an accumulating set of sheets against a sidewall of the slot following the entry of each new sheet into the slot. The contact member decreases curling and fluffing of sheets within the slot, which can cause imprecisions in registering, stapling, or creasing of the sheets as they are formed into a booklet.

Abstract: A finishing device having a sheet guiding and buffering mechanism located in the space between a sheet transporting assembly and a finishing platform. The mechanism has two parallel retractable arms having a slight curvature along their length. Sheets dispensed seriatim from the transport assembly onto the arms conform to the curvature of the arms. In a normal mode, the arms are retracted for each sheet delivered thereto and the individual sheets drop onto platform to form a set of stacked sheets. When the last sheet of a set is dropped, the mechanism changes to a buffering mode and the arms collect and hold the first few sheets of the next set. Once the previous set has been finished and ejected from the platform, the arms are retracted and the sheets collected are dropped, and the mechanism is changed to the normal cycle for the remainder of the subsequent set.

Abstract: This invention relates to a sheet post-processing device and an image-forming device. The mechanism that arranges sheets to be a bundle and that discharges the bundle will be reduced in size and cost. A sheet S1 guided by the guide 44 is conveyed to a tray 12 by a discharging roller 21. When the rear end &agr; of the sheet S1 locates on a arranging table 41, the discharging roller 21 rotates in the opposite direction, and the sheet is conveyed until the sheet contacts the stopper 43 of the arranging table 41. The next sheet S2 is conveyed to the tray 12 in the same manner as previous described, however the previous sheet S1 is held on the arranging table by the holding device 51. The sheet S2 contacts the stopper 43 by the reverse rotation of the discharging roller 21 to be arranged on the sheet S1. A bundle of sheets bound by a stapler 60 is discharged to the tray 12 completely by the discharging roller 21.

Abstract: An integrated sheet compiler/stacker system with reduced sheet roll-over or other jam problems, especially where the stacker is an elevator stacking tray or mailbox bin which moves relative to the compiler, with a gap therebetween, and partially shares the sheet set compiling area. For the first sheet of a set being compiled, a dual mode compiler set eject drive roller nips system is closed and that first sheet lead edge area is fed thereby partially out of the compiler towards the adjacent stacker tray or mailbox bin, with improved corrugated and/or more planer sheet extension support. Then that first sheet is reverse fed back into the compiler for positive compiling. Those set eject nips are opened for the compiling of the subsequent sheets of that same set (for which the first sheet provides a smooth gap bridge), then they close again to eject the entire compiled set and receive the first sheet of the next set.

In one exemplary embodiment, the finishing device includes a flipper module, an accumulator module and a binder module. The binder module binds sheets together by reactivating imaging material applied to binding regions on the sheets by a printing device. The flipper module receives a sheet leading edge first and discharges the sheet trailing edge first. That is to say, the flipper module flips the sheet before discharging the sheet for further processing. The accumulator module stacks the sheets, presents the sheets to the binder for binding and then discharges the bound stack to the output bin.
