Patent number: 7331576Abstract: A feeder device is provided, comprising a drive mechanism for driving a media unit in a feed direction, the media unit being provided from a stack of media units by a hopper including upstream and downstream hopper members. A directing member associated with the upstream hopper member engages the trailing edge of the media unit to direct the same to the drive mechanism, reduces an adhesive force between the media unit and remaining media units in the stack, and engages the trailing edge of one other media unit to direct the same toward the downstream hopper member and to partially support the weight of the remaining media units. Patent number: 6866258Abstract: Two belt type singulators are used in apparatus which feeds and singulates stacked articles which have varying thickness and shape. The singulators form tandem, spaced apart singulator nips with a transport belt. Each singulator belt has a downwardly sloped underside and moves incrementally around its rollers over time, overcoming certain applied resistive forces. The singulator belt has intermittent contact with the transport belt, when articles are being processed, and there is a resultant scuffing of belts which helps remove debris. Preferably, on off the forces which resists singulator belt motion is created by having a singulator pair with upper rollers, which are rotationally coupled but which have different diameters. The upper ends of the singulator belts project into the hopper which holds the stack and aid in the feeding of articles toward the singulating nips.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2003Date of Patent: March 15, 2005Inventor: Roman M. A plurality of rising units at the conveying unit, the raising units being alternatively moveable by pivoting between an upraised position above the upper level of the conveying unit, and a lowered position at the highest aligned with that upper level. Each rising unit is connected to a programmable control unit in order to provide a single command respectively for each one of the rising units. An adjustable height wear surface shoe on each rising unit.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2002Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Assignee: Bobst S.A.Inventors: Roberto Valterio, Valery Naula

Patent number: 6601842Abstract: A sheet transfer apparatus for an image reading apparatus includes a sheet supply tray for storing a sheet; a sheet supply device for drawing out the sheet on the sheet supply tray; a transfer device for receiving the sheet from the sheet supply means and placing the sheet at a predetermined position on a platen of an image reading apparatus for reading the image thereon; a discharge device for discharging the sheet on the platen after reading the image thereon; and a discharge tray for receiving the sheet discharged by the discharge device. A switchback device is disposed above the platen for reversing the sheet when necessary, and includes a switchback path for receiving the sheet to reverse the same. The switchback path includes a first opening portion for opening a first area near an inlet side, and a second opening portion for opening a second area away from the inlet side of the switchback path. The switchback path is easily accessible when the sheet is jammed.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2002Date of Patent: August 5, 2003Assignee: Nisca CorporationInventors: Atsumi Kobayashi, Kunihide Suzuki, Yutaka Tanaka, Akiharu Higaki, Akihiko Tsukui, Mizuho Shirakura

Patent number: 6402134Abstract: A method is proposed for separating flat, stacked products, which are preferably fed individually, at a distance from one another and lying one behind another, to a further processing process, first of all the uppermost product being lifted, at least partially and preferably completely, off the stack of products and subsequently transported away in the transport direction to the further processing process, the transport direction forming an angle (&agr;), preferably in the range from 30° to 150° with the vertical axis of the stack of products, wherein the products are transported away in such a way that as a product that still partially overlaps the stack with its trailing edge region is being transported away, a following product is already being lifted off the stack of products, in its trailing edge region, to be transported away.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2000Date of Patent: June 11, 2002Assignee: LTG Mailander GmbHInventors: Hans-Ernst Gauger, Björn Michel

Patent number: 6375182Abstract: A feeding machine for feeding envelopes into a station for further individual handling. A stack of envelopes is held in a downwardly inclined feed channel. The stack of envelopes is transformed into a layered stream by an upward inclined discharge channel including a conveyor unit that carries a stream of envelopes through a gap formed by an imbricator strip and a low friction circulation belt. The layered stream is conveyed to a removal point where a removal device removes individual envelopes for further processing. The conveyance of the layered stream is controlled in such a manner that the removal device can remove individual envelopes at regular time intervals.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2000Date of Patent: April 23, 2002Assignee: Pitney Bowes Technologies GmbHInventors: Martin Sting, Stephan Will
