Abstract: A sheet feeding device for feeding a sheet stacked on a sheet cassette to an image forming portion of an image recording apparatus. The sheet feeding device includes a sheet supplying roller unit and a sheet feed roller positioned downstream thereof. The sheet supplying roller unit includes an intermediate small diameter portion and integral large diameter portions positioned to interpose the small diameter portion therebetween. Each large diameter portion has a contacting area in contact with the sheet, whereas the intermediate small diameter portion is spaced away from the sheet. A sheet edge detection arm is swingably provided and contactable with the sheet fed by the contacting area. The sheet edge detection arm is movable into a space defined between the small diameter portion and a confronting separation pad. If sheet is fed by the sheet supplying roller unit, the sheet edge detection arm is urged by the sheet and a posture of the arm is changed.

Abstract: A label sticking apparatus has a suction drum with at least three holding-sticking units mounted at constant intervals on the periphery thereof so as to be movable in radial directions of the suction drum. The suction drum is rotated intermittently by a constant amount so as to feed and stop the holding-sticking units at a label feeding station, a positioning station and a sticking station which are disposed around the suction drum in this sequence. Labels are seriatim peeled from a label tape and held on a distal end of the holding-sticking unit at the label feeding station. At the positioning station, positioning of each label is performed by a positioning head having a centering pin and a pair of angular position correction pins. At the sticking station, the holding-sticking unit is pushed through an eccentric cam radially outward from the suction drum toward a work-piece, to press and stick the label held on the holding-sticking unit onto the work-piece.

Abstract: A sheet advancement system is provided which includes a roller arrangement having first and second rollers coupled to afford selected in-phase and out-of-phase relative rotational orientation thereof. Each roller includes a periphery with gripping and non-gripping surface regions, the gripping surface regions being configured to rotationally engage a sheet and the non-gripping surface regions being configured to clear the sheet. The rollers thus are joined in either a grip orientation wherein substantially continuous roller-directed sheet advancement is accommodated, or a pass orientation wherein the rollers permit unobstructed passage of the sheet. In the grip orientation, the rollers are out of phase, providing substantially continuous gripping region engagement of the sheet.

A biased friction pad is mounted on a D-shaped pick roller mechanism to engage the top sheet with a lighter force than that which follows when a similar friction pad on the D-shaped pick roller mechanism engages the sheet. Multiple sheet pick problems inherent with use of only a D-shaped pick roller mechanism are alleviated.

Suction orifices in the shaft extend through the flat surface portion and communicate with suction cups carried by the shaft. Free outer edges of the suction cups contact the bottom blank, whereupon the application of suction causes the suction cups to contract. The suction orifices include enlarged outer portions for receiving the contracted suction cups such that the bottom blank is pulled flush against the flat surface portion of the shaft for a more effective application of suction forces.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for the storage and dispensing of packaged adhesive bandages and similarly shaped flat packaged units. The dispenser includes a drive unit base, which may be powered either manually or electrically. A cartridge is removably mountable to the top of the base. The cartridge holds a stack of packaged adhesive bandages on a floor in which is defined an elongated slot. A weight is provided to exert downward pressure against the bandages toward the cartridge floor. A roller with an elastic following finger attached to the roller is mounted within the housing and aligned with the slot in the floor. When the roller is rotated the following finger frictionally engages the lowermost bandage in the stack, urging it through an exit portal at one end of the cartridge. As the bandage is propelled through the portal, it displaces a resilient flap which covers the portal.

The paddles buckle upon contact with the substrates rather than bending and thereby providing reduced normal force sensitivity to paddle deflection and reduced pressure since the force of buckling is a function of the paddle cross-section rather than paddle length for all areas of the paddles except near the paddle wheel hub. Abstract: To provide for deflection of copy between two respective paths (8, 16; 9, 17) without using switchable deflection tongues, two cylinders (3, 4) have segmental elements (24, 27) located thereon which are respectively, selectively, positionable on or within the circumference of the cylinders, or projecting therefrom, for example by securing the segmental elements in projected position, or by controllable eccenters (28-35). Copy is fed by a belt transport system between the cylinders and, if the copy meets a projecting segment, the projecting segment will deflect the copy into one of the paths, in accordance with the position of guide tongue structure (36). Alternate feed in the respective path can be obtained by offsetting the projecting segments (25, 27) from each other, for example by 90.degree. (FIG. 3) and feeding copy with equal copy length and copy spaces therebetween to the cylinders, so that the copy will be directed, alternately, to one, or the other of the exit paths.
