Abstract: An ATM includes a currency note dispenser having a currency cassette, a note picker, a note transporter, and a note presenter. A cassette tambour door automatically opens during insertion of the cassette into the dispenser. The picker can pick notes through the opening. A spring loaded housing wall tab retains the picker shaft in mating connection with a drive pin. The transporter can move notes vertically and horizontally. The transporter includes belts between an idle shaft and a drive shaft. The idle shaft is vertically movable relative to a drive shaft to maintain belt tension. The transporter also includes convexly tapered rollers that automatically recenter a loose belt. A presenter gate is at a note dispensing outlet of the ATM. The gate is opened by actuating a lever linked with an arm connected to the gate. The gate opens by moving a pin upward in an angled slot.

Abstract: A method of collecting printed sheets of media from a printer is provided in which a printed sheet is ejected from the printer and allowed to fall along a substantially vertical path before the leading edge thereof is captured and a retaining force having a component substantially perpendicular to the vertical path is applied thereto. The sheet is then collected on a retaining surface which is inclined with respect to the substantially vertical path. In this way, the printed sheet is collected whilst maximising the amount of time that the ink printed on the sheet is exposed to air without contact with another surface. Accordingly, the ink is given time to dry and set thereby reducing any detrimental effects on the quality of the printout caused by collection.

Abstract: An implementation of a technology is described herein for automatically determining the heat-conductive properties of print media. More particularly, described herein is a technology for indirectly and automatically determining the heat-conductive properties of print media by determining the stiffness of print media, such as acetate and paper. At least one embodiment, described herein, includes a registration assembly of a laser printer. In this assembly, the print medium is deflected (i.e., bent, bowed, buckled, etc.). A measurement of such deflection is made. That measurement is an indication of the relative stiffness of the print medium. Assuming approximately similar densities, the stiffness of print media is directly related to its thickness. The thicker the medium the stiffer it is and vice versa. The thickness of print media is directly related to its heat conductivity.

  • Patent number: 6478296
Abstract: A post-processing apparatus is configured to substantially support media sheets along their edges by causing the media sheets to substantially bend along their transversely extending axes. Conventional types of media sheets are typically unable to be supported at their edges because they often tend to bend along axially extending axes. According to a sheet handling method, a transversely extending bend is created in the media sheets. In this respect, the media sheets may be supported along their edges without substantially bending along their axially extending axes. In addition, by substantially removing the transversely extending bend in the media sheets, the media sheets are caused to drop substantially straight between a pair of support members. Thus, it is unnecessary to move the support members apart from one another to cause the media sheets to drop between the support members.

  • Patent number: 6338481
Abstract: The rotation of the second conveyance rollers located downstream from the first conveyance rollers, which are located downstream from the thermal fixing device of the image forming apparatus, is stopped for a prescribed period of time, or the speed of the second conveyance rollers is made slower than that of the first conveyance rollers. A loop is formed in the sheet through this difference in rotation speed, and the curling of the sheet caused through the thermal fixing is corrected. A torque limiter (or one-way clutch) is mounted at least in the drive path for either the first or second conveyance path. When a rigid sheet such as thick paper or low-moisture paper—for which curling is not likely—is conveyed, slipping occurs in the drive path due to the rigidity of the sheet itself, and the loop formation is automatically cancelled.

  • Patent number: 6231043
Abstract: The invention is directed to a media tray for an imaging apparatus for receiving a sheet of media. The media tray includes a base having a first side region and a second side region, a first sheet support member, a second sheet support member, a first mechanism, a second mechanism, and a force applying mechanism. The first and second mechanisms pivotally couple the first and second sheet support members to the side regions of the base, respectively. The force applying mechanism applies a force on the first and second sheet support members such that each of the first and second sheet support members diverge upwardly and outwardly from the base. The force applying mechanism includes a first cam member or first spring mechanism positioned between the first sheet support member and the base and a second cam member or second spring mechanism positioned between the second sheet support member and the base.

  • Patent number: 6181908
Abstract: An apparatus for corrugating material includes an upper shaft rotating about a first longitudinal axis and a lower shaft rotating about a second longitudinal axis. Either the upper shaft, the lower shaft, or both shafts are constructed of a flexible material. At least one upper corrugation roll is secured to the upper shaft, and at least one lower corrugation roll is secured to the lower shaft. The upper corrugation roll and the lower corrugation roll are interspersed relative to each other and spaced such that the material is fed between the upper and the lower corrugation roll to corrugate the material. Materials of varying rigidities may be passed between the upper and lower corrugation rolls such that lighter weight material is corrugated while heavier weight material deflects the flexible shaft(s) to reduce corrugation.

  • Patent number: 6139008
Abstract: A curl eliminator for eliminating a curl from paper to be printed by a printer. The printer has a paper feeder including a paper tray for storage of the paper on a ferric top surface of the paper tray and for feeding the paper into the printer for subsequent printing. The curl eliminator has an elongated strip disposed at the top surface of the paper tray such that it opposes the curl of the paper thereby tending to flatten the curl. The curl eliminator also has a magnetic strip fastened to the elongated strip for mounting the elongated strip to the top surface of the paper tray. The elongated strip is mounted to the top surface of the paper tray by a magnetic attraction between the magnetic strip and the top surface of the paper tray. Also provided are a paper tray and printer having the curl eliminator of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 6105957
Abstract: A buckle accumulator including an input feed system, an output feed system located downstream in a path of travel from the input feed system, a receiving space located adjacent the path of travel between the input feed system and the output feed system, and a deflector. The input feed system feeds a plurality of sheets one at a time in a path of travel into the buckle accumulator. Each of the plurality of sheets has a leading edge and a trailing edge. The output feed system feeds a stack of sheets out of the buckle accumulator. Generally, the lead edge for each of the plurality of sheets is substantially unrestrained between the input feed system and the output feed system. The receiving space accepts the plurality of sheets one at a time to create the stack. The deflector is mounted in proximity to the receiving space for selectively actuating between a first position out of contact with a first sheet previously accumulated in the receiving space and a second position in contact with the first sheet.
