Publication number: 20040218996Abstract: The method and the apparatus of the invention serve to shift at least some sheets of successive stacks of overlapping sheets so that the originally straight holes which are provided along one marginal portion of each stack are converted into arcuate passages adapted to more readily receive the convolutions of spirals serving to pivotably couple the sheets of the stacks to each other. This is accomplished by inserting into one or both ends of some or all of the holes a discrete pin-shaped displacing member which is thereupon pivoted to thus shift at least some of the sheets relative to the neighboring sheets. In order to speed up the shifting of sheets, the displacing member or members is or are pivoted during withdrawal from the respective hole or holes to move its or their tips along arcuate paths at least approximating the curvatures of the convolutions which are to be introduced into the thus converted holes.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2003Publication date: November 4, 2004Applicant: Kugler-Womako GmbHInventor: Ferdinand Fuchs

Patent number: 6662725Abstract: A printing plate is held at one point thereof by a holding portion provided at a surface plate. When pushed by a pushing portion, the printing plate is only rotationally displaced. Thus, an angular error is substantially eliminated and displacement of the printing plate is small. Then, the pushing portion positions the printing plate in a direction perpendicular to a direction in which the surface plate can be moved. Then, movement of the surface plate positions the printing plate in the direction in which the surface plate can be moved.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2000Date of Patent: December 16, 2003Assignees: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd., Fuji Photo Optical Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takashi Koizumi, Kazuoki Komiyama, Yoshinori Kawamura, Yoshihiro Koyanagi, Mitsuyoshi Nishimura, Takashi Kato

Patent number: 5196868Abstract: The present invention relates to techniques for ensuring that an image receiving sheet, which has only one major surface thereof coated with an image receiving coating, is properly oriented prior to an image being printed thereon. The image receiving sheet has a concave or convex irregularity (e.g., a notch, arc, etc.) formed in at least one nominally straight edge of the sheet. In a first embodiment, a mechanical or optical sensing means detects whether or not the image receiving sheet is stacked correctly in a loading tray by sensing whether or not the edge irregularities are properly positioned. In a second embodiment, an edge and a notch sensing means detect whether or not the image receiving sheet is oriented properly while being fed into the printer. An improperly loaded image receiving sheet is either not fed into the printer, or transits the printer without causing the printer to attempt to print the image thereon.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1992Date of Patent: March 23, 1993Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Young No, Stanley W. Patent number: 4561646Abstract: A mechanism for registering sheets, respectively notched at their leading edge and transported by a sheet transport apparatus along a travel path, in both an in-track and cross-track direction at a preselected location in such travel path. The registration mechanism comprises an elongated member supported for movement transverse to its longitudinal axis. Such member is selectively movable along its longitudinal axis to a first position intercepting the travel path adjacent to the preselected location or a second position remote from the travel path. When the member is in its first position, a portion of the member is received in an opening of a receiver located adjacent to the travel path. The opening is oppositely directed to, and generally aligned with, the notch in the lead edge of a transported sheet. Thus when the transported sheet engages the member, the member is urged by the portion of the sheet forming the notch into the opening.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1984Date of Patent: December 31, 1985Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Richard G. Patent number: 4186918Abstract: A method and apparatus permitting accurate and repeatable steps of location and alignment of flimsy sheets during their transfer. A preferred embodiment comprises a sheet handler and method for aligning unfired ceramic green sheets used in multi-layer ceramic semiconductor packages. The thin flexible sheets are square or rectangular in shape and are provided with holes accurately punched in each corner thereof for alignment purposes. The sheets are moved by a vacuum input transfer head into orientation with a porous registration surface of an alignment fixture. The sheet is then trapped between opposed pressure zones emanating from the input transfer head and through the porous registration surface, respectively. With the sheet stabilized between the pressure zones four bullet-nosed alignment pins are raised from the registration surface into contact with the holes in the corners of the green sheet, thereby accurately aligning the sheet with respect to the alignment fixture.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1977Date of Patent: February 5, 1980Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Walter W. Patent number: 3974920Abstract: A loader-unloader is disclosed which can controllably move a workpiece into and out of a workstation in a machine without danger to the machine operator. The loader-unloader has a table which supports the workpiece and aligns it with the workstation. A plurality of clamps are used to grip the workpiece. One clamp is provided for each part of the workpiece exiting the machine. The working faces of the clamps make point or line contact with the workpiece so that it can be moved slightly in the clamps under the influence of aligning means on the table and in the machine. The clamps lift the lower portion of the workpiece as it is moved toward the workstation to reduce frictional resistance and to prevent the lower portion of the workpiece from being scratched. In operation, the machine operator places the workpiece on the table and initiates the loader-unloader cycle. The workpiece is clamped and aligned and then moved forward into the workstation.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1974Date of Patent: August 17, 1976Assignee: Burroughs CorporationInventor: Richard Leigh Bumann
