  • Patent number: 4026542
Abstract: Apparatus for registering a pair of rectangular sheets includes a rectangular sleeve whose width is variable, and a retractable gate located at one end of the sleeve. In a first embodiment, fluid injected into the other end of the sleeve provides first and second fluid streams which register one of the sheets with the gate and one of the narrow walls of the sleeve, and register the other of the sheets with the gate and the other narrow wall of the sleeve. In a second embodiment, the sheets are registered against a centrally disposed vented manifold and the gate. In a third embodiment, fluid drawn into the sleeve provides first and second fluid streams which register one of the sheets with the gate and one of the narrow walls, and register the other of the sheets with the gate and the other of the narrow walls.

  • Patent number: 4023789
Abstract: Method and apparatus for feeding original and copy sheets in a duplicator having an improved copyboard containing a radiation-transmissive plate adapted to carry superposed thereon the original and copy sheets with the original disposed between the plate and the copy sheet, the copyboard being linearly reciprocatable between a loading station, at which the original and copy sheets may be positioned on the plate, and an exposure station, at which the copy sheet is exposed through the radiation-transmissive plate and the original sheet and is thereafter removed for further processing. At the end of each exposure cycle, the copyboard moves back to the loading station carrying thereon the original sheet for the initiation of a subsequent sequence. Also disclosed are method and apparatus for accurately registering the copy sheet and original sheet on the copyboard and method and apparatus for separating the exposed copy sheet from the original sheet.

  • Patent number: 4003568
Abstract: Apparatus for transporting and cooling toner bearing sheets discharged from a fuser includes a structure having a pair of superposed sheet passageways, the entrance to the passageways being located at one end of the structure. The structure is moved so that successive sheets from the fuser are alternately fed to the passageways and fluidic means move the sheets through the passageways and out of the structure, the directions in which a sheet travels in entering and leaving the structure being, generally, orthogonal.

  • Patent number: 3984098
Abstract: In a first embodiment, a stop having a plurality of ports is connected to and covers an end of a rectangular sleeve having a movable wide wall. In a region near the stop, a narrow wall of the sleeve also has a plurality of ports. A nozzle coupled to a pump provides a flow of air into the other end of the sleeve and the air exits through the ports. With this arrangement, a rectangular sheet inserted into said other end of the sleeve is fluidly brought into registration with the narrow wall and stop. After the sheet has been registered, the movable wide wall is moved towards the other wide wall of the sleeve. If a sheet is wrinkled, such movement flattens the sheet. In a second embodiment, similar to the first, the narrow wall and stop include internal projections against which an inserted sheet is registered. In a third embodiment, similar to the first, a manifold is coupled to the ports and a vacuum pump is coupled to the manifold to accelerate registration.

  • Patent number: 3970299
Abstract: A sheet registry device for use in a sheet-handling machine in which a constantly rotating brush exerts a force on the sheet to urge the sheet against a side guide and properly register such sheet in a cross-machine direction while the sheet is being removed in a direction parallel to the guiding surface of the side guide.
