Patent number: 7422211Abstract: A closed loop feedback method that continuously adjusts the lateral and skew position of a sheet includes a first sensor that is used to measure lateral sheet edge position. A second sensor measures the lateral sheet edge position at a certain distance from the first sensor. Sheet skew values can thus be calculated. Lateral and skew controllers provide outputs to lateral and skew actuators, respectively, to adjust the sheet position. A different method of registering sheets laterally and in skew enables active sheet deskew without translating the sheet in the cross-process direction. A sensor carriage position is controlled to find the sheet edge after which deskew control can start. The average value of the carriage position can then be fed in a feedforward manner to move the image location to match the average paper position. This achieves good average lateral registration and active skew control at a reduced cost.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2005Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Joannes N M Dejong, Lloyd A. Patent number: 6736394Abstract: A sheet lateral registration system, especially for high speed printer print media, which can also provide sheet deskewing as well as lateral sheet registration, having substantially increased lateral translation movement re-centering time for the lateral sheet registration system by utilizing at least two lateral shifting rollers having at least two different radii which provide automatic nip closings and openings in their rotations (relative to opposing idlers), with larger radius circumferential lengths coordinated to the downstream distance of the subsequent sheet acquisition system. Additionally disclosed are coordinated position non-slip sheet feeding nips which may be positioned in the paper path between these dual radius deskewing and lateral registration rollers and the image transfer station of the printer.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2002Date of Patent: May 18, 2004Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Douglas K. Publication number: 20030146567Abstract: A sheet registration system, especially for printers, with a lower cost and lower mass-movement system for both sheet deskewing and transverse registration repositioning of the sheets in the same integral system, especially for higher speed printing. Only one main drive motor can drive both of the two spaced apart sheet feeding nips, together with a lower power, lower mass, deskewing differential drive system for providing the relative differential angular movement of the two spaced sheet feeding nips to achieve the desired amount of sheet deskewing movement, without interrupting the forward feeding movement of the sheet. Also disclosed are extensive further reductions in the component mass of the lateral translation movement for lateral sheet registration.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 19, 2003Publication date: August 7, 2003Applicant: Xerox CorporationInventors: Lloyd A. Patent number: 6047960Abstract: A conveyor receives and holds a recorded sheet discharged from an image forming apparatus, the sheet is conveyed along a path and another conveyor is provided along the path at a predetermined distance from the first conveyor to further convey the sheet. There is a shifting device between the two conveyors for holding and individually shifting groups each containing a prescribed number of sheets, perpendicularly to the conveying direction of the sheets. There is a delivery tray for receiving the sheets delivered by the other conveyor.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1997Date of Patent: April 11, 2000Assignee: Konica CorporationInventors: Minoru Kawano, Toshitaka Matsumoto, Masaru Ohtsuka

Patent number: 5956071Abstract: An assembly for positioning a piece of photosensitive film into a scanning position on a curved film platen and an internal drum scanner assembly. The film platen is defined by a film feed edge and a film stop edge. An alignment mechanism is positioned proximate the film stop edge and a feed mechanism is positioned proximate the film feed edge. The feed mechanism operates to feed the leading edge of the film from the film feed edge along the film platen towards the film stop edge alignment mechanism, and wherein when the photosensitive film is in the scanning position, the photosensitive film is compressed against the curved film platen in alignment between the alignment mechanism and the feed mechanism. A centering mechanism is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1997Date of Patent: September 21, 1999Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Robert J. Mattila, Larry R. Boughten, John J. Patent number: 5805308Abstract: A conveyance device 4 for conveying a manuscript to an image reading section of a main body mounted by an image processing system is provided with a base member 6 removably fixed to the main body to provide a conveyance path 5, a driving mechanism and a manuscript guide member 8 for driving and conveying the manuscript. The manuscript is located between the manuscript guide member and a rib 9 at a left-hand side, and conveyed in a stable status. On a surface of a top end of a moving member 16 associated with the manuscript guide member is provided a white colored plate 17. A groove portion 18 other than the plate is dark, and the image is read to be binary coded whereby a pixel corresponding to the plate indicates "1". A position of the plate is located in the guide member or a right hand side edge of the manuscript, and a left hand side edge is fixed by the rib.
