Feeler Control Patents (Class 271/25)
  • Patent number: 8528894
Abstract: A transport device includes a set section, a sheet sensor, and a feeding member. When a detection member does not retract, the sheet sensor outputs an OFF-detection signal. The feeding member is displaced between a feed position and a non-feed position on the basis of the detection signal. At the feed position, the feeding member comes in contact with the sheet set in the set section from above and feeds the sheet toward the downstream side on a transport path. At the non-feed position, the feeding member is separated upward from the feed position. A method, which detects a sheet in the transport device, includes displacing the feeding member from the non-feed position to the feed position, and detecting that the sheet does not exist in the set section when an OFF-detection signal is output from the sheet sensor while the feeding member is positioned at the feed position.

  • Patent number: 8014692
Abstract: When an instruction reception section receives an image forming instruction from an operator, a detector detects an toner image forming unit which performs an image forming operation in connection with the operator's instruction. A mode determining section determines which one of an image formation preceding mode or a sheet conveyance preceding mode is set for the toner image forming unit detected by the detector, and a drive controller controls drivings of the sheet conveying section and the image forming section according to the determined mode.

Abstract: A registration gate is mounted in a sheet feeding mechanism for rotation about an axis at about right angles to the direction of sheet feed into a feeder mechanism. The gate includes a plurality of fingers extending upwardly through slots in the tray. A motorized sequencing cam moves followers to rotate the gate to an open position to retract the fingers below the tray, to raise and lower a nudger in and to move a lever for locking and unlocking the gate into the closed position with the fingers upright for registering the leading edge of the sheets during user loading of the tray. The cam may be detented or locked by a pawl engaging a notch in the cam.

  • Patent number: 7159863
Abstract: A method and apparatus for limiting the height of media inserted into a media tray of an image forming apparatus 10 while also allowing for the inserted media to expand due to changing environmental conditions is described herein. An exemplary stack height limiting system comprises an elongated arm with a striking end spaced from a control end, where the arm is movable between first and second positions. A limiter positioned relative to the arm defines the first position, where the striking end is spaced from the bottom surface of the tray by a first gap. As media disposed in the tray expands beyond the first gap, the expanding media moves the arm to form a second, greater distance between the striking end and the bottom surface of the tray. As a result, pinch points between the first end and the media are avoided.

  • Publication number: 20030102622
Abstract: A media advance device includes a pick roller and a pair of sensors. The first sensor may be an encoder utilized to determine the speed of media advance. In addition, data from the first sensor and/or the second sensor may be utilized in a closed loop feedback system to alter the time in which an error signal may be returned according to the level of the media in the media tray. In addition, the speed of the media advance may be varied in real time to compensate for variations in the time intervals required to advance sheets of media from the media tray to the second sensor. By virtue of the detected speed of media advance as sensed by the first sensor and/or the second sensor, the level of media in the media tray may be calculated in a substantially accurate manner.

  • Patent number: 5886729
Abstract: A sheet supply apparatus according to the present invention has a pawl separator for separating sheets one by one by regulating the tip ends and upper surfaces of tip end portions of the sheets, which pawl separator can be retarded from a sheet regulating position when it is urged by the sheet with a predetermined force. With this arrangement, sheets having small resiliency such as plain sheets are separated one by one by successively riding over the pawl separator, and sheets having great resiliency such as post cards and envelopes urge the pawl separator to a retracted position to pass through the pawl separator and are separated one by one by of another separation.

  • Patent number: 5137285
Abstract: The sealing system consists of a commercially-available shaft seal (2), having a covering ring (3) to protect the shaft seal dirt and from exposure to the atmosphere. The covering ring (3) pre-arranged separately outside the conventional flexible shaft seal (2) and is made of a material which is specially suited for drying running, having high strength values and low internal damping, and is designed with a Z or S-shaped intermediate wall (6) which has a radially elastic action. The seal gap (8) is covered, on the side exposed to contamination, first by a scraper lip (12) having radial preloading, and then by a cylindrical jacket region (10) of a guide ring (16) so that the lip (12) can follow the eccentric movements of the rotating machine part (1).

  • Patent number: 4981235
Abstract: A dispenser for sequentially dispensing one sheet at a time from a stack of sheets. A housing encloses a drive and a lift roller, and each roller has a longitudinal axis arranged in parallel aligned relationship respective to one another and spaced from the one another an amount to bring the outer peripheral surfaces thereof into rolling contact with one another. A holding post is aligned in parallel relationship with respect to the rollers and is spaced therefrom for enabling a stack of sheets to be held against the holding post and lift roller, with one outermost sheet having a marginal edge portion thereof urged against the lift roller and the opposed marginal edge portion thereof is urged against the holding post. The outer peripheral surface of the drive roller is made of high friction material while the lift roller has a relatively small segment of its outer peripheral surface made of high friction material and the remainder of the peripheral surface made of low friction material.

  • Patent number: 4588180
Abstract: A loader for box-type feeders of packaging machines, bookbinding machines and the like, in which the products are loaded into a feed channel with an inclined base formed by a conveyor belt, to be brought into contact with a counteracting plate. Sucker arms cyclically withdraw one product at a time and transfer it to wheels provided with grippers which insert the product between pairs of belts by means of which the product is transferred until it discharges into the feeder box. Feeler elements cyclically determine the thrust of the products in the feed channel and enable the conveyor belt to advance through one step when the thrust is smaller than a predetermined value, whereas they prevent said advancement when the thrust is greater than said value.
