Abstract: The production of offset stacks of business forms is effected in a continuous (i.e. without interruption) manner until a vertical stacker into which the forms are fed is full. Between a detacher and the stacker, the forms are automatically and continuously directed either to the left or the right from a common center line to offset the forms into different groups with at least one form in each group. This offsetting action may be accomplished by a pair of angled conveyor belts with steel balls movable into and out of association with the conveyor belts by solenoids, and/or by two sets of diverter wheels which are also angled and which are moved up out of engagement with the forms or down into engagement with them. Edge guide rods are provided which are part of transport aligning mechanisms that are movable toward and away from each other to accommodate different form widths.

  • Patent number: 5147092
Abstract: An improved accumulator and method of accumulation into stacks of a number of seriatim-fed sheets selectively in the manner of "over" or "under" accumulation and for conveying accumulated stacks to further equipment. The accumulator comprises driven endless elastic belts to drive sheets therebetween and a driven roller pair for nipping and feeding the sheets to a stacking location to be accumulated therein. The nip of the roller pair is offset in relation to the plane in which sheets are driven thereto by the belts. The roller pair drives a sheet in positively nipped manner to the stacking location selectively over or under a previously arrived sheet. Further included in the roller-accumulator is a stop gate device for stopping sheets fed to the stacking location and for selectively releasing accumulated stacks to be transported by and between the endless elastic belts to further equipment.

  • Patent number: 5076562
Abstract: A sheet feeder for feeding sheets into a copying or printing machine includes a movable base movably mounted on a fixed base for movement across a sheet inlet of the copying or printing machine in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the sheets are fed into the copying or printing machines. Two sheet tables for carrying respective stacks of sheets thereon are juxtaposed along the direction in which the movable base is movable, and is mounted on the movable base, so that a selected one of the sheet tables can be positioned at the sheet inlet in response to movement of the movable base. The selected sheet table is lifted by a lifter mechanism associated therewith to elevate the supported sheets until the uppermost one of the sheets reaches a sheet feeding position. The sheets are then successively fed from the selected sheet table into the sheet inlet.

  • Patent number: 4917370
Abstract: A launcher for launching pieces of sheet metal into a roll former is disclosed. The launcher includes laterally spaced conveyor belts having parallel upper reaches which support the piece of sheet metal and transport it to a launch position. While located in the launch position, opposed pushers engage opposite edges of the sheet and move it laterally into a predetermined lateral location in which it is centered and aligned with the roll former. Thereafter, longitudinally spaced gripper rolls engage and grip the opposite sides of the sheet at longitudinally spaced locations. The gripper rolls operate to feed the sheet and maintain gripping thereof until substantially the entire sheet enters the roll former. Therefore, proper alignment is maintained and uniform roll forming is produced. The pushers along one side of the sheet move to a fixed position to precisely locate the adjacent edge of the sheet.
