Abstract: An image forming system includes a feed section, a transport section, a toner-image forming section, a fixing section, a problem detecting section, and an additional feed section. The feed section feeds a sheet. The transport section transports the sheet fed from the feed section. The toner-image forming section forms a toner image onto the sheet transported by the transport section. The fixing section fixes the toner image formed by the toner-image forming section onto the sheet. The problem detecting section detects a problem in a sheet transport operation. The additional feed section feeds an additional sheet from the feed section toward the fixing section if the number of sheets stopped by the transport section in accordance with detection of the problem by the problem detecting section and subsequently transported toward the fixing section after the sheet transport operation is resumed is smaller than a predetermined number.

  • Patent number: 6554275
Abstract: A method of document overlap/gap error detection and correction includes detecting a trailing edge of a first document at a feeder, and detecting a leading edge of a second document at an edge detector between the feeder and a transport stage. An overlap/gap error is determined and the feeder is controlled to correct the overlap/gap error, when the error is present. An overlap may be measured before the first document trailing edge arrives at the edge detector, providing a greater remaining length of the second document left in the feeder with which to perform the necessary feeder motions to correct the overlap/gap error.

  • Patent number: 6508464
Abstract: In a method for intermediately storing documents being supplied in a supply cycle by an upstream system to an intermediate storage device, the documents supplied by the upstream system to a downstream system are transferred in a transfer cycle that is independent of the supply cycle. The intermediate storage device for performing the method has an input side and an output side and a transport device for transporting the documents from the input side to the output side in a transport direction through the intermediate storage device. The transport device has a first transport unit and a second transport unit. The first transport unit is arranged at the input side and is configured to be continuously driven. The second transport unit is arranged at the output side and is driven in a cycled operation.

  • Patent number: 6485011
Abstract: The invention is to provide a paper feeding apparatus and a driving method thereof for an office machine. The office machine includes a paper accommodating device and a paper processing apparatus. The paper accommodating device is for accommodating paper sheets to be processed by the paper processing apparatus. The paper feeding apparatus is for feeding the paper sheets accommodated by the paper accommodating device one by one to the paper processing apparatus. The paper feeding apparatus includes a pickup roller, a delivery roller, a pair of feeding rollers, a detection device, a transmission gear assembly, a drive motor and a controller. The detection device detects a leading edge and a trailing edge of the paper sheet delivered by the paper feeding apparatus. In particular, the paper feeding apparatus is a simple-configuration, light-weight and compact component and capable of feeding paper sheets accurately.

  • Patent number: 6338479
Abstract: In the in-line processing of flat objects (S1-S7), the flat objects (S1-S7) are fed from a device (4) and serially transferred to a downstream system (5). In the system (5) the objects (S1-S7) are transported and, if necessary, temporarily collected. The temporary collection of specimens of the objects (S1-S7) occurs in a configuration with a pitch in the direction of transport which is smaller than the dimensions in the direction of transport of the objects (S1-S7) in question. Then collected objects (S1-S7) are moved away from each other, from that configuration, and further transported with mutual interspaces. Because the flat objects (S1-S7) are stored with a pitch less than the size in the direction of transport, a large number of objects (S1-S7) can be collected in a buffer portion (34, 35; 134; 234) of a small length. Because the objects (S1-S7) are stored with a pitch in the direction of transport, however, they can be readily moved away from each other.

Abstract: A substrate sensing mechanism is provided for use in a printer output bin. The sensing mechanism includes a flag having a shape such that when one or more substrates, which have been removed from the bin, are manually reinserted into the bin, the one or more substrates are directed beneath the flag without causing a substrate feed failure. The flag is also positioned and shaped so as to move to a full bin position when a portion of one or more curled substrates extends to or above a level of the substrate output path immediately adjacent the bin entrance.

  • Patent number: 6241235
Abstract: An apparatus separates printed media, especially letters or envelopes, which are disposed as stacks between a spring-mounted curved pressure plate and drive rolls as well as a guide plate inclined slightly to the rear. Cylindrical envelope surfaces of the drive rolls project through openings in the guide plate. The printed media are transported away to the side. Such an apparatus is used in mail processing systems for reliably pre-separating and separating the printed media with the lowest possible technical outlay and space requirement. The apparatus includes a pre-separating area with drive-roll combinations having different coefficients of friction and a common, separate drive with freewheeling as well as a separating area with separating elements, a sensor for detecting printed media, an ejection-roll pair on the outlet side and a common, separate drive.

Abstract: A stencil printer includes a printing drum which is rotated bearing thereon a stencil master, and a press roller which is pressed against the printing drum. A paper supply system supplies a printing paper to between the printing drum and the press roller so that the printing paper is conveyed pinched between the printing drum and the press roller. A paper supply controller controls the paper supply system so that the paper supply system supplies the printing paper to between the printing drum and the press roller at a first predetermined angular position of the printing drum for each rotation of the printing drum. The paper supply controller controls the paper supply system so that the printing paper supplied next by the paper supply system does not collide with the printing paper under printing when the printing paper is overlong.
