Abstract: A laser printer is equipped with first to fourth motors, and controls independently first to fourth driving portions, respectively. The laser printer does a continuous double-side printing for a preceding paper and a following paper. When the preceding paper on a first surface of which the printing is applied is conveyed to a predetermined position, the laser printer feeds the following paper. When the preceding paper exceeds a sensing range of a paper sensor, the laser printer conveys the preceding paper at a high-speed re-conveyance velocity in a switchback mode. When the feeding of the following paper is done normally, the laser printer conveys the preceding paper to a re-conveyance path while lowering the conveyance velocity to a normal re-conveyance velocity. When an error occurs in the feeding of the following paper, the laser printer stops the conveyance of the preceding paper in the switchback mode.

This belt drive controller controls driving of a belt to intermittently move a belt wrapped around a plurality of supporting rollers including a driven roller and a drive roller. This controller detects a rotation angular displacement or a rotation angular velocity of two supporting rollers having mutually different diameters, and controls driving of the drive roller based on the detected rotation data so that the position of the belt in the direction of movement becomes a predetermined target position.

  • Patent number: 8025291
Abstract: An apparatus for decelerating a signature comprises a movable belt arrangement, and a motor coupled to the movable belt arrangement for controllably moving the movable belt arrangement through a cyclical velocity profile. The movable belt arrangement is moved through a signature engaging section with the cyclical velocity profile causing the motor to decelerate the movable belt arrangement from a first speed to a second speed while engaging a signature in the signature engaging section. The signature enters the signature engaging section at the first speed, and leaves the signature engaging section at the second speed, lower than the first speed. The cyclical velocity profile causes the movable belt arrangement to accelerate upon the signature leaving the signature engaging section, back to the first speed, prior to a next signature entering the signature engaging section.

Abstract: A printing system and method using alternating control modes for one or more, but not all, sheet transport devices in order to avoid contention. In a printer having first, second and third sheet transport devices in series (e.g., registration, image transfer and image fixing devices), the second device can always operate in a velocity control mode. However, the first and/or third devices can alternate between velocity and torque control modes. For example, the first device can operate in a torque control mode, when a sheet is concurrently engaged by both the first and second devices, and in a velocity control mode at other times. Additionally or alternatively, the third device can operate in a torque control mode, when a sheet is concurrently engaged by both the second and third devices, and in a velocity control mode at other times. Transition control modes can be implemented to generate smooth transitions between modes.

Abstract: A method and system for performing sheet registration are disclosed. Output values for a sheet may be identified within a reference frame. A difference between each output value and a corresponding desired output value may be determined. Input values may be determined based on at least the differences. State feedback values may be determined based on information received from one or more sensors. Jerk values may be determined for multiple drive rolls based on the input values and the state feedback values. A desired angular velocity for each drive roll may be determined based on the corresponding jerk value. A motor voltage may be determined for each drive roll that tracks an observed angular velocity value to the desired angular velocity value. The jerk values may create a linear differential relationship between the input values and the output values. The steps may be performed multiple times.

A housing is mounted around the pair of transmission shafts such that the first transmission shaft and the second transmission shaft are positioned substantially equidistant from a centerline of the housing. During a media picking operation, the rotation of the first transmission shaft of the pair of transmission shafts provides a first moment to the housing and rotation of a second transmission shaft of the pair of transmission shafts provides a second moment to the housing, which is equal and opposite to the first moment such that a net moment on the housing is near zero minimizing twisting of the housing. The two transmission shafts rotating in opposite directions, also results in substantially equal normal force to be applied by the first and second pick tires on the media.
