Multiple Discharge Patents (Class 271/279)
  • Publication number: 20130113160
Abstract: An apparatus includes a print control unit, a determining unit, and a control unit. The print control unit causes a printing unit to print an image on a sheet and causes one of a plurality of discharge units to discharge at least one sheet on which the image is printed by the printing unit facing downward. The determining unit determines whether some of the discharge units are to be used for discharging sheets for an input print job. In response to determining that the some of the discharge units are to be used for the input print job, the print control unit discharges the sheets to the some of the discharge units such that a former page of the sheets is discharged to a lower-level discharge unit and a latter page of the sheets is discharged to an upper-level discharge unit.

Abstract: Continuous print devices and systems are disclosed herein. Embodiments include continuous print devices having a plurality of temporary holding sections, each of which is bounded by a moveable bottom barrier. The temporary holding sections are typically aligned vertically with each other, thus allowing print media to fall from one temporary holding section to the next temporary holding section below. The temporary holding sections are adapted to contain print jobs including unique set documents for association and packaging with medication containers during fulfillment of prescription orders. Embodiments of the continuous print system enable associated printers to maintain at least one print job in the printer's memory during order fulfillment, thereby enabling the printer to operate continuously. Warm-up or cool-down cycles of the associated printer that can be induced by delays between successive print jobs are thus eliminated during normal operation of the continuous print system.

  • Publication number: 20130020760
Abstract: When a sheet processing apparatus is newly connected, discharge of sheets to a paper discharge tray the user does not intend is prevented while omitting cumbersome settings regarding the sheet processing apparatus. To accomplish this, a printing apparatus stores, in storage unit, information for determining a paper discharge destination to which sheets are to be discharged from among a plurality of paper discharge destinations. In a case where a newly connected sheet processing apparatus is a sheet processing apparatus of the same type as an immediately previously connected sheet processing apparatus, the printing apparatus does not change the information stored in the storage unit. In a case where a newly connected sheet processing apparatus is a sheet processing apparatus of a different type, the printing apparatus updates the information stored in the storage unit.

Printed tickets are fed from a stacking nip into a ticket bin via a first ticket exit. A second ticket exit is provided which leads away from the ticket bin. Tickets are diverted into the second ticket exit in the event the ticket bin has reached capacity or the first ticket exit is blocked. By diverting tickets out of the second exit when the ticket bin has reached capacity or when the first ticket exit is blocked, the tickets are allowed to exit the printer and paper jams are prevented.

Abstract: In an image forming apparatus, a sheet is discharged onto an output tray. The image forming apparatus includes a ranging sensor which measures a distance to an object from a position located away by a predetermined distance from a bottom surface of the output tray in a sheet loading direction on a line in parallel with the bottom surface of the output tray and orthogonal to a direction in which the sheet is discharged. In the image forming apparatus, discharge of the sheet onto the output tray is stopped when the distance to the object measured by the ranging sensor is lower than a specific distance.
