Abstract: An apparatus for processing overlapped documents including a plurality of drive rollers for moving the overlapped document in a direction towards engagement with a stop member, first sensing means for detecting the overlapped condition of the documents and for disabling the operation of one of the drive rollers enabling each of the overlapped documents to engage the stop member in registry with each other and second sensing means for operating the drive rollers to move the stacked documents to a remote distribution station.

Abstract: Apparatus for transporting a scalloped stream of paper sheets from a first horizontal path into an aligned second horizontal path or into a downwardly sloping third path has a flap which is pivotable in a gap separating the first and second paths between a first position of coplanarity with the first and second paths so that the stream can enter the second path by traveling along the upper side of the flap and a second position in which the flap extends above the first and second paths to block the entry of the stream into the second path while permitting the stream to advance from the first into the third path. An intercepting plate is moved across the discharge end of the first path prior to pivoting of the flap from the first to the second position to temporarily prevent (e.g., for an interval of a few milliseconds) the advancement of sheets beyond the first path.

Abstract: Apparatus is provided for diverting groups of sheets to one or more processing machines which are adjacent to an elongated path defined by a transporting system consisting of a series of conveyors separated from each other by pivotable switches. Each processing machine can receive sheets from the transporting system in response to pivoting of the adjacent switch to a sheet-diverting position, and the switch which precedes such switch is pivotable to a position in which it diverts sheets onto an auxiliary conveyor which can be started to deliver sheets directly to the respective processing machine. The discharge end of the transporting system delivers surplus sheets to a stacker, and a switch which is located ahead of the foremost auxiliary conveyor can be caused to divert sheets into a row forming machine.
