  • Patent number: 7686612
Abstract: An improved, heat resistant seal assembly for deformation compensation of rotary kilns having a plurality of integrated seal segments interconnected to form a biased expandable constrictive ring around a rotating drum, the seal segments being attached to a portion of a stationary in-feed or out-feed hopper of a kiln assembly, each seal segment assembly having a plurality of friction wear pads, the seal assembly forming a long lasting expanding and contracting sealing ring that prevents the buildup of material particles and escaping heat and gas from degrading the biasing components or interfering with kiln deformation compensation.

  • Patent number: 7566221
Abstract: A pipe for feeding a gas into an oven, a furnaces, or the like (such as a CVI/CVD oven), and in particular into a reaction chamber structure inside the oven, is provided with a gastight tubular sealing device extending radially outward of the pipe and defining a path that is practically gastight, through which there extends the feed pipe. The tubular sealing device is preferably at least partially flexible in the transverse direction and/or the axial direction so as to accommodate positioning defects between a location situated in the reaction chamber and a location where the gas feed pipe penetrates the oven (which defects may be due, for example, to asymmetrical thermal expansion/contraction).

  • Patent number: 7204689
Abstract: A sealing structure for a solid-transferring screw installed inside a heating furnace such as a material-leveling screw and a product-discharging screw, the sealing structure enabling the solid-transferring screw to be lifted during operation while airtightness of the heating furnace is retained. A driving shaft of the solid-transferring screw passes through through-holes formed in side walls of the heating furnace and is supported by liftable supporting devices disposed outside the furnace. Sealing blocks are attached on outer edges of the through-holes to surround the periphery of the through-holes at the outside of the furnace. Sliding panels are disposed at outer sides of the sealing blocks and have sliding holes for sliding the screw-driving shaft so that the driving shaft extends through the sliding holes. The sliding panels are brought into contact with the sealing blocks via the sealing members therebetween so that the sliding panels are slidable in the vertical direction.

  • Patent number: 7147230
Abstract: The sealing device is for drum filters or filter presses to form a seal between the rotary drum end faces and the end faces of the trough in which the rotary drums are situated. A sealing element (3) is disposed in a groove (1) on the rotary drum end face, in which the sealing element (3) is pressed into contact against the opposite part by a hose element (2), preferably in form of two flexible hoses (2a, 2b), which can be pressurized internally. The hoses (2a, 2b) are disposed one on top of the other in the groove (1) beneath the sealing element (3). The two open ends of the hose element (2) are provided with sleeves (7) which enclose the ends. The sleeves (7) are held in place in the groove (1) with a holder element (10). Spaces (19a, 19b) are formed on both sides of the middle piece (12) of the holder element. One space (19a) is provided with an inlet (17) for pressurizing medium and the other space (19b) is provided with an outlet (18) for the pressurizing medium.

  • Patent number: 6866270
Abstract: A C-section ring fixed on a steel-mill roll and coaxially surrounding its stub has inner and outer axially extending legs defining an axially open cavity. The inner leg is tapered away from the roll and is formed adjacent the free end with a radially outwardly open annular groove. An annular cover part fixed on a stationary support, engaged in the cavity, forming a drain compartment open axially away from the roll, and formed with a radially outwardly open catchment groove radially aligned with a free end of the inner leg is also formed with a passage extending from the catchment groove to the drain compartment. An annular extension on the cover part has an inner surface carrying a seal ring that bears radially inward on the stub. An add-on part on the extension forms with the extension, with the cover part, and with the C-section ring a labyrinth.

  • Patent number: 6663109
Abstract: A rotating seal assembly, comprising: a first member having a circular hole passing therethrough; a second member having a circular shape, the second member being positioned such that an annular gap is present between the first and second members; a contacting member spanning across the annular gap, the contacting member being mounted to one or the other of the first and second members; at least one support assembly disposed on one of the first or second members, the at least one support assembly being mounted to the same member as the contacting member; and a sealing ring, wherein the support assembly holds the sealing ring against the contacting member, thereby pushing the contacting member against the opposite member to which the support assembly is attached.

  • Patent number: 6418637
Abstract: A sealing arrangement is provided between a rotary drum kiln and the stationary end thereof arranged in a material flow relation to each other, having enhanced effectiveness and requiring less maintenance. Pressurized gas, such as air, is fed to the connecting area of the drum and stationary end so that the angle &agr; between the feeding direction of the gas and a plane substantially perpendicular to the center axis of the rotary drum is 90° or less (preferably between about 10-30°). The air flow is directed to the seal in such a way that it prevents leaking of process gas and solid matter dust from the connecting point of the rotary drum and the feed chamber, and so that as little air as possible escapes to the surroundings. Due to the gas flow, the stationary surface and the moving surface substantially do not rub together.

  • Patent number: 6119969
Abstract: A coal-burning utility electrical power generation plant includes a mill provided by a rotary drum for pulverizing coal. The drum is rotational about an axis and has mill heads at distally opposite axial ends thereof. Each mill head has a cylindrical mill head extension extending axially, and a stationary cylindrical seal ring concentric with the mill head extension and defining an annular gap therebetween. A pair of axially spaced annular seals are provided between the mill head extension and the seal ring, and seal the annular gap therebetween to prevent leakage of coal dust through the annular gap. A spacer is provided between the seals and maintains the seals in axially spaced relation and prevents rolling movement of the seals into the annular interfaces between the spacer and the mill head extension and between the spacer and the seal ring as the mill head extension rotates relative to the seal ring, to prevent coal dust bypass, and leakage to atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 6003874
Abstract: An apparatus for sealing a rotary tube drum of a furnace to another furnace component. Two concentric resilient metal ring segments are provided on a disk to comprise the sealing elements of the present invention. A plurality of springs arranged as a ring apply pressure to the disk and ring segments to ensure a consistent and self-adjusting seal between the joined components. Links located circumferentially about the disk limit lateral movement, yet allow axial movement, of the seal. It is thereby possible, according to the present invention, to provide a resilient seal between a rotary tube and another component of a furnace that yields a self-adjusting gas-impermeable seal between the mating components.

  • Patent number: 5906435
Abstract: A rotary drum mixer mixes product matter in a particulate form. A scoop section for the mixer has scoop blades which are radially enclosed by a peripheral wall which rotates with the drum. A stationary hood includes an outer face portion which covers the end wall of the scoop section and a peripheral portion which covers the peripheral wall of the scoop section, but neither the outer face portion nor the peripheral portion of the stationary hood contact product matter. The scoop blades are relatively flat and are angled into the direction of rotation. A back section is also included for the scoop blades. A seal assembly is positioned toward the inner diameter of the scoop blades and biases radially outward. The seal assembly may alternatively be positioned at the outer diameter of the scoop section, and/or the seal member may alternatively be biased radially outward.
