  • Patent number: 10543540
Abstract: A spindle of a drilling tool includes a socket portion having a first axial length (a1) of a first diameter (d1) for receiving and attaching a drill bit to the spindle. The spindle includes a fluid conduit having a second diameter (d2) narrower than (d1) for conveying a fluid to the socket portion. An interface space with diameter (d1) is formed between the fluid conduit and the drill bit when the drill bit is installed in the socket portion. A fluid conveyor, having a third diameter (d3) narrower than (d1), connects the fluid conduit to the drill bit to avoid fluid gathering in a periphery of the interface space. The fluid conveyor includes a first O-ring abutting a mouth of the fluid conduit, a second O-ring abutting a mouth of a fluid channel of the drill bit, and a spring between the first and second O-rings.

  • Patent number: 5845912
Abstract: An adjustable quick change chuck jaw apparatus for attachment to a master jaw in the front face of a rotary chuck allows a machinist to quickly change the chuck jaws from one diameter to another. A generally rectangular jaw body is connected to the master jaw of a rotary chuck and extends radially outward from the central rotational axis of the chuck. A jaw member is slidably mounted on one side of the jaw body to travel longitudinally relative thereto and has a workpiece gripping portion extending perpendicularly outward. A rotatable shaft mounted in the jaw body has a threaded segment configured to become engaged with mating threads on the jaw member when rotated to an engaged position and to become disengaged therefrom when rotated to a disengaged position. A spring biased locking pin in the jaw body allows selective engagement with the shaft to prevent rotation thereof in a locked position and to become disengaged therefrom to allow rotation in an unlocked position.

  • Patent number: 5112067
Abstract: A boregrinding chuck assembly includes a plurality of arrow-shaped jaws that each includes a head that is in the shape of an isosceles triangle with the apex angle thereof just slightly less than 360.degree. divided by the total number of jaws in the assembly so that there is a small gap defined between adjacent jaws when such jaws are holding a workpiece in position for a boregrinding operation. Each jaw includes a set of marking lines that are located to define a workpiece-engaging circle that has a diameter just slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the workpiece to securely hold such workpiece when all of the jaws are engaged against the workpiece. The jaws are customized by cutting the heads along the marking lines that are appropriate to the particular workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4934882
Abstract: Apparatus for monitoring or tracking the angular position of a rotating camshaft during grinding or milling of cams on the camshaft. The cams may be milled, but in the apparatus shown, they are ground by abrasive belts which are guided by actuators driven by CNC controlled motors, to obtain the desired cam contours. Monitoring is carried out by a pick-up member engageable with a locating pin on the camshaft. The pick-up member has a slot for receiving the locating pin between a locator pad and a leaf spring. The leaf spring clamps the pin against the locator pad. The pick-up member will closely follow the rotation of the camshaft despite variations in pin size, and feed back the exact rotative position of the camshaft to the CNC controlled motors consistently and accurately.

  • Patent number: 4932674
Abstract: An operation control device is provided for a chuck by which the rotary drive for the chuck is disengaged when the clamping motion leading to clamping of the workpiece in the chuck has not been provided or is not sufficient. The clamp jaws of the chuck are adjustable by a drive member guided axially in the chuch body which is connected to a clamping piston. The operation control device comprises a control piston which is acted on by a compressed medium against the force of a restoring spring and is locked by the drive member against the sliding caused by the compressed medium in a locked position disconnected from the rotary drive if the drive member is positioned in the end safety region of its axial displacement.

  • Patent number: 4909521
Abstract: An improved pull-back chuck is disclosed that detects when a workpiece is properly located against a locating surface of the chuck and when the workpiece is gripped with sufficient force by the jaws. A transducer is disposed within a master jaw in a portion deformable by operating levers of the chuck assembly. When sufficient force is applied to the workpiece by action of the operating levers, a portion of the master jaw deforms causing the transducer to deform and modify an electrical signal in proportion to the pressure. A switch located in an aperture of a locating plate has an actuator that protrudes beyond the locating surface of the locating plate. When a reference surface of the workpiece abuts the locating surface of the locating plate of the chuck, the actuator is depressed by the workpiece and the switch changes electrical condition giving an indication of abutment.

A plurality of jaws are displaceable radially on the front face between radially inner and outer end positions by an operating member axially displaceable on the body between a pair of axially offset end positions. Mechanism between the jaws and the member displaces the jaws toward the radial inner positions on displacement of the member in a first axial direction and displaces the jaws toward the radial outer positions on displacement of the member in a second axial direction opposite the first direction on the body. A drive piston the one cylinder of the body is fixed on and axially jointly displaceable with the member and forms in the one cylinder at least one compartment pressurizable to urge the drive piston and the operating member in one of the axial directions.

  • Patent number: 4443021
Abstract: In a clamping unit, particularly in a chuck with exchangeable jaws, one terminal clamping position is reached during opening when the clamping jaws approach the limit of stability. The other end position is reached during closing when the jaws approach the point where they cannot be moved any further. However, both end positions must be so far removed from the rest position or the stop position that a residual clamping stroke remains which insures safe clamping even then in the terminal clamping positions. The terminal clamping positions are different for chucks of varying sizes, and so are the clamping strokes. To adjust the end positions as well as for determining the attainment of these end positions, an apparatus is provided comprising a transmitter device and a sensor device which reacts to approach or contact. Spacing is changeable with the adjustment of the clamping jaws.
