Patent number: 8220225Abstract: A capping chuck assembly embodying the present invention comprises an outer chuck housing, and inner, central guide disc upon which a plurality of circumferentially spaced gripper segments are mounted. Each gripper segment includes an inner jaw portion for engagement with an associated closure, and an outer cam surface. The outer chuck housing defines a plurality of inwardly facing, cam drive surfaces positioned for respective engagement with the outer cam surfaces of the gripper segments, so that rotational drive of the outer chuck housing collectively drives the gripper segments and guide disc to urge the segments radially into engagement with an associated closure.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2012Date of Patent: July 17, 2012Assignee: Closure Systems International, Inc.Inventor: Karl E. Publication number: 20090230635Abstract: A locating means (13) adapted to be supported from one element (11) for engagement with another element to retain the two elements in engagement with each other, the locating means comprising a lug (39) to be displaceable between an extended position at which it extends from the locating means and a retracted position at which it is located inward of the extended position, a driving member (29) slidably supported from the one element the lug and driver having at least two opposed faces, the other element having an abutment which is intended in use to be engaged by the lug when the lug is in the extended position and the two elements are in engagement with each other in order to retain the elements in said engagement with each other, the opposed faces being configured such that movement of the driving member relative to the lug causes the displacement of the lug.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 9, 2006Publication date: September 17, 2009Applicant: Eastland Medical Systems Ltd.Inventors: Philip Bunce, Douglas Sims

Patent number: 7424776Abstract: A method for machining a workpiece in which a machine tool comprising a first and a second chuck devices is employed to machine the workpiece, the machine tool being used in which the first and the second chuck devices comprise a chuck main body, plural chuck jaws, a chuck jaw drive body, and a pressing member, the method comprising: machining a clamp part of the other end part of the workpiece in a state where one end part of the workpiece is clamped by the first chuck device; machining a clamp part of the one end part of the workpiece in a state where the clamp part of the other end part of the workpiece is clamped by the second chuck device; and executing desired machining on the workpiece in a state where each of the clamp parts are clamped by each of the chuck devices.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2007Date of Patent: September 16, 2008Assignee: Komatsu Machinery CorporationInventors: Masahiro Shoji, Masumi Shimomura

Patent number: 4209180Abstract: A self centering workpiece-positioning fixture for a machine tool, especially for a lathe, has aligned opposed jaws one of which is reciprocable toward and away from the other along their common axis and bath are rotatable on such axis. A clutch having a member axially displaceable but not rotatable with respect to the not-reciprocable jaw being provided for locking the said not-reciprocable jaw to the fixture body.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1978Date of Patent: June 24, 1980Assignee: Rotomors S.p.A.Inventor: Mario Bertorello

Patent number: 3975030Abstract: A chuck for a chucking machine has a rotatably supported toroidal body having first and second sets of jaws projecting inward from its inner periphery, the first and second sets of jaws being axially spaced from one another. Each of the sets of jaws has its own actuating mechanism comprising a lead screw engaging each jaw for the movement thereof. All of the lead screws of a set are controlled by a ring gear actuable by a fluid pressure motor to simultaneously advance or withdraw all the jaws of a set. At least the second set of jaws has a slip clutch associated with each lead screw to allow engagement of all jaws with the workpiece regardless of irregularities in the workpiece surface.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1975Date of Patent: August 17, 1976Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: A. Patent number: 3931720Abstract: A self-aligning coupling between a driving member and a driven member as a cross-disc member in which the members define a pair of linear slots at right angles to one another and have axial faces adjoining the flanks of these slots. The cross-disc member has ledges received in the slots and planar surfaces parallel to the flanks and axial faces, but spaced therefrom. L-section bearing cages with arrays of parallel needle bearings in each leg of the L are provided between the flanks and adjoining faces of one member and the juxtaposed flanks and adjoining faces of the other member so that the roller axes of each cage are orthogonal to one another.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1973Date of Patent: January 13, 1976Inventor: Rolf Buhrer
