The catch is disengaged from the handle upon an additional manipulation of the release actuator. The additional manipulation is in a proximal direction.

A diamond-shaped portion of the cutting burr may be formed in a six-sided diamond configuration and a perpendicular back end surface. The end of the cutting burr may include another diamond-shaped portion formed in a six-sided diamond shape surface that mates with a complementary surface formed in the receiving end of the spindle of the motor/locking mechanism. In an aspect, the attachment of the cutting burr is such that the cutting burr has substantially zero axial movement and runs true in the running condition.

    Abstract: An adjustable limb support system is provided for an operating room table to adjustably orient and position a stirrup or boot. The support system provides an adjustable support in combination with a vertically adjustable support. The vertically adjustable support includes a support arm, a ratchet wheel, a lock pin, and a ratchet release. The support arm is connected to a housing which both rotate about the ratchet wheel in a rotational plane extending upwardly and outwardly from the operating room table for automatic abduction. The lock pin engages the ratchet wheel and allows the support arm to be rotated upwardly but not downwardly. The ratchet release disengages the lock pin and allows the support to be rotated downwardly. The support arm can thus ratchet upwardly to fixed vertical positions and be lowered only by disengaging the lock pin. The adjustable support includes a retaining block, a compression block, and a compression head.

    Abstract: In a hand-held tool, such as a power drill, a hammer drill, a powered screwdriver or the like, a chuck is secured on one end of an axially extending rotary spindle by ball-shaped locking members. The chuck has a driver socket which fits on one end of the rotary spindle. The locking members are located within openings in the driver socket and are displaced radially inwardly into recesses in the spindle by a support ring encircling the driver socket. Recesses in the spindle, in which the locking members are held, have a first surface extending transversely of the axial direction of the spindle with the first surface forming a pair of run-up ramp surfaces, each inclined to the axis of the spindle and relative to one another. Due to the rotation of the spindle, the locking members move along one of the run-up ramp surfaces within each recess and develop a force component in the axial direction of the spindle, pressing abutment surfaces of the spindle and the driver socket into contact with one another.

    Abstract: A quick-connect and quick-disconnect mechanism includes a male member which may be received in a female socket member. Cam means is journaled in an eccentric cam follower surface in the socket and is capable of rotation about a second axis displaced from the axis of the socket. A locking surface on the cam means faces in a longitudinal direction opposite the entrance of the socket and opposite that of a lockable abutment surface on the male member. An aperture in the cam means is sufficiently large to accommodate the entrance of the lockable abutment surface on the male member. The cam means is rotatable within the cam follower surface to move the cam locking surface with a radially inward component and a component of movement in a longitudinal direction away from the entrance of the socket to engage the lockable abutment surface to lock the male member in the socket. The cam means may also have an expelling surface to aid in expelling the male member from the socket.

A cavity is defined by said pressure ring and said main body and includes an inclined plane. The cavity has a plurality of spherical balls disposed therein. Said main body is peripherally threaded to accommodate the threadable mounting of a compression ring having, at its forward aspect, a conical inclined plane overlying the cavity and the first mentioned inclined plane. Rotation of the compression ring forces the spherical balls into the cavity engaging the inclined planes and the pressure ring and greatly multiplying the force for locking the device. Reverse rotation of the compression ring releases the locking force.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a combination of a tool holder having a socket member with a cylindrical axial bore, and a tool shaft releasably received therein. A driving element is displaceably mounted in the socket member so as to be movable between an extended position in which part of the driving member extends into the axial bore, and a retracted position in which the driving member is retracted from the bore, and the driving element is biased towards its extended position by spring means. The tool shaft received in the tool holder has a transversely extending recess receiving the driving element in its extended position, whereby the tool shaft is locked in the tool holder. Adjacent to the free end of the tool shaft the said recess defines an abutment surface cooperating with an inner surface part of the driving element in its extended position so as to prevent axial withdrawal of the tool shaft from the axial bore of the socket member.
