Patent number: 7802948Abstract: The invention is a drill bit extender and method that enables holes to be formed or screws to be driven remote from a drill motor. It includes a drill adapter for attaching to a drill bit, hole saw, or spade bit, for example. Patent number: 7568705Abstract: A novel drill for the aerification of turf grasses is disclosed. The drill comprises a chuck and a fluted turf drill bit held by the chuck. The chuck includes a locking mechanism which permits the chuck to rotate freely about its longitudinal axis when loaded in compression (as when the drill is inserted into the ground) but which locks, preventing rotation, when the drill is loaded in tension (such as when the drill is withdrawn from the soil). The drill bit has a smooth upper section and a fluted lower section. The smooth section decreases the probability of entangling the turf in the drill bit with subsequent lifting of the turf when the drill is withdrawn. The tip of the drill bit is adapted to provide a torque to the drill bit during insertion into the ground. Thus, the bit spirals into the ground upon insertion, but locks upon removal, thereby permitting the flutes of the bit to cut a cylindrical hole in the ground while removing soil from the hole by retaining it in the space between the flutes.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2007Date of Patent: August 4, 2009Inventor: Daniel R. Patent number: 6444941Abstract: An electrical discharge machining system including a fixture for the post which allows the post to be mounted and clamped thereto in a precise predetermined position thereon whether the post has a round cross-sectional configuration or a polygonal shape thereto. In a preferred form, the fixture includes a bore for a round shaped post having an indexing pin which seats in a groove formed in an upper surface of the fixture and is clamped therein by clamp members actuated by cam clamp operators. The clamping of the pin in the groove keeps the post rigid and stationary relative to the fixture to provide for improved results when the electrode is subject to machining operations. In addition, because the clamping mechanism herein does away with the previously-described hydraulic clamping device utilized with prior fixtures, there are no hydraulic lines or connections that have to be set up and maintained to provide an easier-to-use fixture for use with the tool holding system.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2000Date of Patent: September 3, 2002Inventor: Anthony A. Patent number: 6394466Abstract: An end mill chucking structure for chucking an end mill having a relatively small diameter and used, for example, for deep milling of a die. The end mill chucking structure includes an end mill holder and an end mill. A holder body has a taper hole formed therein. The end mill includes an end mill body and a cutting tip provided at an end portion of the end mill body. A portion of the end mill body located opposite the cutting tip serves as a tapered shank portion. The shank portion and the rest of the end mill body are bounded by a shoulder extending outward from the surface of the shank portion. The shank portion is press-fitted or shrink-fitted into the taper hole such that the end face of the holder body abuts the shoulder of the end mill body, through application to the holder body of heat at a temperature lower than a conventional shrink-fitting temperature.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2000Date of Patent: May 28, 2002Assignee: Nikken Kosakusho Works Ltd.Inventors: Masakazu Matsumoto, Masahiro Taguchi, Yusaku Yamamoto

Patent number: 6299394Abstract: A milling tool holder comprising an elongated body adapted to be supported on a milling tool base. The body has a shank-receiving bore. A tool head supports a pair of indexable inserts, and has a shank received in the shank receiving bore to a position in which an annular face on the head faces a similar face on the body. A pair of projections on the face of the body is received in a pair of openings in the tool head to prevent the tool head from rotating with respect to the body.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2000Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Inventor: Stojan Stojanovski

Patent number: 6241434Abstract: A drill bit and a manufacturing method thereof that ensures integral mounting of a drill and a drill holder with a simplified construction and in a simplified manner are disclosed. The drill bit has a drill with a bit and a shank, and a drill holder formed with an axial insertion hole for fitting the shank. An engaging part is formed at a base end of the drill. A blind hole that intersects the insertion hole is formed in the drill holder to form a restricting part, or a stopper equivalent to the restricting part is fitted in the bottom of the blind hole. Engagement of a top of the stopper or the restricting part with the engaging part prevents a relative rotation of the drill to the drill holder.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1999Date of Patent: June 5, 2001Assignee: House B.M. Patent number: 6172319Abstract: A mount for interposition between an electrode holder and an electrode for electrical discharge machining (EDM). The mount is cast from material such as aluminum or zinc. The mount has a shank portion that is connectable to the electrode holder and a connector portion or tip portion that is connectable to the electrode. The tip portion has a gluing surface that is dimensioned to be glued with a corresponding surface on the electrode. A plurality of deformable ears cast onto the gluing surface of the mount project outward and deform in contact with the electrode when the electrode and the mount are connected and bonded by glue, to thereby provide good electrical contact therebetween. The tip portion may also include grooves cast therein for receiving glue thereby improving the glue bond strength between the electrode and the mount. The mount includes an axial passage to provide for dielectric fluid flow therethrough.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1999Date of Patent: January 9, 2001Inventor: Paul Franzen

Patent number: 6145851Abstract: A device that adapts a wide range of appliances such as drills, awls, screwdrivers and sockets to use with a multifinctional pocket tool such as a pocket knife or other folding tool. The device firmly attaches the appliances to the multifunctional pocket tool so that the user can pull on the appliance in addition to pushing and turning. The adapter clamps firmly to flat blade such as a screwdriver blade by clamping to the blade with a screw and by forcing the sides of the adapter against the broad sides of the blade as well. The appliance is firmly retained by having a rigid thin rod or ball slide into the cavity in which the appliance is held to block its removal. The rigid thin rod or ball is easily moved out of the way to allow removal of the appliance.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1999Date of Patent: November 14, 2000Inventor: Gerald J. Heber

Patent number: 6142485Abstract: A chuck for rotary tools with a cylindrical chucking shank encloses such shank with a basic body. A radial through-hole in basic body serves to receive a clamping screw which applies pressure to a clamping member which is seated inside a through-hole between the clamping screw and chucking shank. A clamping member is provided with a radial projection and the through-hole with a cross-sectional narrowing along its inner end. In between the radial projection and the narrowing is an elastically compressible spring element which, due to its return force, lifts the clamping element away from the chucking shank and pushes it back into the through-hole when it is not under tension from the clamping screw.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1999Date of Patent: November 7, 2000Assignee: Kennametal Inc.Inventors: Gebhard Muller, Michael Schuffenhauer, Martin Prey

Patent number: 6109619Abstract: A method for gripping such objects as tool bits and other implements is an extension of principles employed by tool holders currently in use, which grip at one (primary) position along the shank length. This invention provides auxiliary gripping, or what I hereinafter call "back up gripping" at one or more positions in addition to the primary gripping position. A universal tool holder or handle is presented as one embodiment of the invention. The holder is an elongated cylindrical sleeve one end of which contains a gripping mechanism utilizing back up gripping. The other end of the holder allows for insertion of a strike rod which, when making contact internally with the gripped tool, transmits to the tool the impact of hammer blows made against the outer end of the rod. The gripping mechanism of the embodiment is comprised of two pairs of traversely adjustable screws which serve as jaws or grips. Each pair of jaws grips the shank in an orientation different from the gripping by the other pair.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1999Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Inventor: Seymour H. Fine
