Patent number: 4701083Abstract: A tool holder for drilling and chiselling tools includes a receiving sleeve forming a bore with a conically shaped section for receiving a conically shaped shank on a drilling or chiselling tool. Shoulders extending in the axial direction of the sleeve are formed on the surface of the conically shaped section for interengagement with grooves in the drilling or chiselling tool shank so that the sleeve can rotate the tool. Locking elements in the form of axially elongated pins are mounted in the receiving sleeve so that the pins extend transversely of the sleeve axis and tangentially of the conically shaped bore section. The pins are spring biased toward the bore section and are displaceable generally radially relative to the bore. The pins are arranged to seat within an annular groove in the shank of the tool.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1985Date of Patent: October 20, 1987Assignee: Hilti AktiengesellschaftInventors: Paul Deutschenbaur, Hans Rupprecht, Norbert Burtscher, Berno Nigg

Patent number: 4688459Abstract: A punch assembly is provided wherein individual punches may be quickly released and extracted from a punch ring by depressing an elongated retainer member positioned adjacent and transverse to each of the punches. The retainer member has walls defining a concave groove, and the retainer walls are selectively engageable with complemental, groove-defining walls of each punch. A spring normally biases the retainer member to a position where the retainer walls tightly engage the punch walls and thereby retain the punch within a bore of the punch ring. When the punch must be removed from the ring for repair or replacement, the retainer can be depressed against the bias of the spring and shifted to a position wherein the groove-defining retainer walls disengage the groove-defining punch walls, thereby enabling the release of the punch from the punch ring.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1985Date of Patent: August 25, 1987Assignee: Didde Graphics Systems Corp.Inventors: Wayne L. Patent number: 4575292Abstract: A boring head is retained to a connecting shaft by means of a cylindrical fastening spigot, using a retaining screw with a conical end which engages a conical transverse bore in the spigot such that the boring head is tightened by wedging effect against the connecting shaft. The fastening spigot is provided with a cylindrical transverse bore, at an approximate right angle to the conical transverse bore in the spigot, and a longitudinally displaceable drive pin is supported in the cylindrical transverse bore such that the ends penetrate, with slight play, into recesses in the connecting shaft. During the transmission of torque, the drive pin is automatically centered so that the forces developed are evenly distributed between the two ends of the drive pin, so that the device is particularly suitable for the transmission of high torques, whether of a gradually increasing or an impulse type, and is usable either with a clockwise or a counterclockwise movement.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1985Date of Patent: March 11, 1986Assignee: Heinz Kaiser A.G.Inventors: Dieter Pape, Hans Woerz, Heinz Kaiser

Patent number: 4477096Abstract: An elastic ring for maintaining a pin in a hole formed in a socket and work drive shaft of a rotary tool. The ring has integral fingers which project into the ends of the hole so that the pin cannot dislodge the ring by centrifugal force when the tool is operating at high speed. Several variations of the ring include weighted areas at portions of the ring midway between the fingers, which areas counterbalance centrifugal force on the ring to supplement holding force of the fingers upon the pin.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1982Date of Patent: October 16, 1984Assignee: Chicago Pneumatic Tool CompanyInventors: William K. Patent number: 4265460Abstract: A tool holder has a bore adapted to receive therein a tool having locking flat surfaces on the shank thereof, and a peripheral wall defining the bore; tangential holes running across the peripheral wall and having an aperture open to the bore; and locking cotters each having an inclined surface and disposed in each tangential hole movably in the axial direction thereof. Displacement of each locking cotter towards the mid portion of the tangential hole causes the inclined surface to press against the flat surface of the shank due to the wedge effect, thereby locking the shank to the peripheral wall. Increasing torque, which acts on the shank, moves the locking cotter in the axial direction to a further extent, thus providing an increased wedge effect, whereby a greatly increased shank retaining force is obtained.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1979Date of Patent: May 5, 1981Assignee: Manyo Tool Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Chikara Senzaki

Patent number: 4146240Abstract: The disclosure relates to a combination of a tool holder having a socket member with a cylindrical axial bore, and a tool shaft releasably received therein. A driving element is displaceably mounted in the socket member so as to be movable between an extended position in which part of the driving member extends into the axial bore, and a retracted position in which the driving member is retracted from the bore, and the driving element is biased towards its extended position by spring means. The tool shaft received in the tool holder has a transversely extending recess receiving the driving element in its extended position, whereby the tool shaft is locked in the tool holder. Adjacent to the free end of the tool shaft the said recess defines an abutment surface cooperating with an inner surface part of the driving element in its extended position so as to prevent axial withdrawal of the tool shaft from the axial bore of the socket member.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1977Date of Patent: March 27, 1979Inventor: Mogens B. Patent number: 3997989Abstract: Retaining means for an earthworking tip member including a wire spring member bonded into a washer shaped member of resilient material. The means also include a partially cylindrical partially flat surfaced retaining bar member having grooves for receiving portions of the wire spring member within the open central portion of the washer shaped resilient member. The resilient member is received within a recessed portion of an adapter or shank upon which the earthworking tip member is retained. Upon engagement with the grooves in the bar member, the wire spring means and the resilient member tend to rotate the retaining bar to lock the bar member in place from firm retention of the tip member during use. The retention means is also selectively releasable when desired for removal thereof and release of the tip member.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1974Date of Patent: December 21, 1976Assignee: Caterpillar Tractor Co.Inventor: Visvaldis A. Patent number: 3945653Abstract: A tube has an open end and an outer circumference and is formed with a transverse incision which extends inwardly towards the axis and is inclined longitudinally of the tube towards the open end of the latter. A sleeve surrounds the tube with clearance and is formed in its inner circumference with a substantially radial slot. A cylindrical locking member extends normal to the axis of the tube through the incision, being freely slidable therein, and has end portions projecting beyond the tube into the slot. A biasing spring normally biases the sleeve to a position relative to the tube in which the locking member is prevented from sliding in the incision because of the fact that its end portions are received in the slot of the sleeve, until the sleeve is displaced axially of the tube against the force of the biasing spring to a position in which the locking member can freely slide in the incision.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1974Date of Patent: March 23, 1976Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventor: Jorg Falchle
