Compacted Fiber Article Encasing Patents (Class 28/121)
  • Patent number: 6748634
Abstract: A tampon formed of a substantially cylindrical mass of compressed fibers substantially enclosed in a fluid-permeable cover has improved ability to prevent early leakage. This tampon has a stability of at least about 15 N, and is capable of radially expanding upon exposure to a humid environment. The radius increases by at least about 10% after 15 minutes to 90% relative humidity at 40° C.

  • Patent number: 6684468
Abstract: A process and apparatus for manufacturing a microfiber structure for absorbing impact energy, sound energy and/or temperature, the structure being used in the ballistic field and in the sound and temperature isolation fields, wherein the method comprises to provide a plurality of threads consisting of microfibers, subjecting the threads to a pressurized air jet to open the threads by separating the microfibers into each thread and entangling the threads to form a mass of loosely-entangled microfibers, with the mass being confined the mass into a pack which may be appropriately compacted.

  • Patent number: 6298529
Abstract: A method for forming and conditioning insulating felts of fibrous products whereby an insulating blanket is transported continuously on a transporting device, the insulating blanket is cut into a plurality of fiber strips, the fiber strips are driven by at least one branching-off and convergence device towards at least one reception conveyor, the fiber strips are superposed one on top of another so as to form at least one longitudinal stack, the at least one longitudinal stack is compressed by a compression device, and the compressed stack is cross cut to form the insulating felts. Such a method is implemented on a device including a transporting device, a longitudinal cutting device, at least one branching-off and convergence device, at least one reception conveyor, a compression device, and a cross-cutting device.

  • Patent number: 6131254
Abstract: The absorbent structure of the invention has a substantially continuous absorbent web having an absorbent layer and a transfer layer. The transfer layer includes a nonabsorbent material and is capable of transferring liquids which it receives to the absorbent layer. The first and second edges of the absorbent web are coiled to form side walls, and the side walls form a trough therebetween. The top, trough-containing surface provides a natural trough in the space between the side walls for receiving and holding large gushes of body fluid until they can be absorbed by or dispersed into the rest of the structure.

  • Patent number: 6066121
Abstract: A liquid-absorbent article to be worn by a user and comprising a substantially longitudinal absorption body (1) and a cover (2) enclosing the same. On a first side, facing the user in an in-use position, the cover displays a liquid pervious first cover-sheet (3) and on a second side, facing away from the user in an in-use position, the cover displays a second cover-sheet (4). On said first side is provided longitudinal liquid barrier means (17, 18) folded into tunnel shape, forming a channel (17', 18') with a longitudinal tunnel wall (17", 18"). Said folded portions enclose longitudinal means (24, 25) with an elastically resilient supporting action acting in all directions transverse to the longitudinal direction of the article against the tunnel wall (17", 18") of the folded portion.

  • Patent number: 4237591
Abstract: A sanitary napkin is provided containing a perfume composition and means for inhibiting migration of components of the perfume composition. Means comprise providing within the napkin at least one elongated narrow strip element. The strip element carries the perfume composition and extends generally longitudinally within the napkin. Preferably, the strip element is a cellulosic string.

  • Patent number: 4179776
Abstract: An improved method for producing and processing deregistered and disorientated synthetic tow for forming fiber filled articles in which crimped registered tow is deregistered through pairs of rolls utilizing a non-continuous groove-threaded surface. The synthetic tow is dispersed and spread, and collected for continuous distribution into and envelopment by article surface material. The automatic process and apparatus associated therewith additionally form and finish the fiber filled articles themselves for additional fabrication processes or for use as is. Vacuum suction and reciprocating distribution of the open tow web may be varied as desired to arrive at particular article thicknesses directed towards particular article uses.
