Wheel Guards Patents (Class 280/160)
  • Patent number: 4641850
Abstract: Thin wide metal bands encircle the propulsion wheels of a wheelchair to enable the chair to be operated on a beach or on other soft terrain. The somewhat flexible bands have separated ends which are drawn together and secured by an elastic connector web attached to one end portion of the band and carrying a connector strip having gripping fingers which engage in apertures provided in the other end portion of the band after the elastic connector web is stretched across a gap between the separated ends of the band. The band carries half-circle centering elements on its interior surface which engage over the tire of the wheelchair propulsion wheel.

  • Patent number: 4555123
Abstract: A cart having a basket and wheeled frame with a pair of flared protective flanges. The protective flanges attach to the lower section of the wheeled frame and extend rearwardly, downwardly and laterally outwardly to prevent the rear wheel castors of the cart from inadvertently causing damage to adjacent objects during routine use and to shield the rear wheel castors of the cart from lateral and upwardly directed impacts.

  • Patent number: 4533183
Abstract: A mechanism for protecting the tires of military vehicles from destruction y enemy small arms fire. The mechanism includes a plate or disk of armor material radiating from the vehicle wheel to a point slightly less than the expected radial deformation of the tire so that the disk is prevented from impacting against the terrain during severe jounce motions of the tire. As an auxiliary feature, a series of paddles can be retractably mounted on each disk for extension from the disk preferably when it is desired to operate the vehicle in mud, sand, or other soft terrains. The paddles tractively engaged the terrain to prevent wheel spin.

  • Patent number: 4516789
Abstract: A mechanism for clearing paths through a crop bed for the wheels of a tractor includes a pair of power driven vertically, parallelly disposed rotatable cylinders positioned forwardly of a wheel to be moved through a crop bed. The cylinders are rotated in opposite directions so as to engage and thereby displace a crop to either side of a path of a wheel. The speed of rotation of the cylinders is typically in excess of the speed of the tractor. A mounting for the cylinders is cantilevered forwardly of a wheel and includes a mounting for the cylinders which allows independent, limited rotation about an axis transverse to the motion of the tractor so as to permit the lower ends of the cylinders to pass over obstacles that may be present in the crop bed.

  • Patent number: 4379565
Abstract: A self-propelled refuse or trash compactor is provided at each cleated drum wheel with a fixed cylinder which extends around the axle housing of the compactor to the periphery of the drum wheel. A minimum operating clearance between the cylinder and the periphery of the drum wheel is allowed and is located such that there is no adjacent structure which may guide a discarded length of cable, for example, into said clearance. The fixed cylinder and drum wheel are also related so that the clearance is in the form of a labyrinth and the passage of the cable in any case and other debris in general through the clearance is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4247030
Abstract: The invention relates to a rack for a vehicle. The rack comprises a seat for holding goods or a person and side walls for containing the goods or the person on the seat. Carriers for a gun or the like are connected to the side walls. A device is also connected to the side walls for allowing the person to rest his or her leg thereon and also for guarding rear tires of the vehicle from having mud and the like splashed thereon. The rack is mounted to and, preferably, used in combination with an all-terrain type of vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4190939
Abstract: A tire sun shield for use upon a load supporting wheel of a parked vehicle is formed from a one-piece member having a front face of a diameter generally corresponding to that of the tire to be shielded and an integral axially extending skirt joined to the front face along its outer periphery. The lower portion of the shield is cut away across a chord of the front face and through the skirt, forming opposed axially extending gripping edges on the skirt which are spaced from each other by a distance slightly less than that of a normal "load flat" of the tire when the tire is supporting a normal load. After the load on the tire is removed to permit the shield to be placed over the front face of the tire and then is reapplied, the gripping edges on the skirt bite into the tire at the opposite ends of the load flat to firmly retain the shield in position on the wheel, and inhibit its removal by wind force or for purposes of theft.

  • Patent number: 4027739
Abstract: A camper body is adapted to be mounted on a stripped down, converted chassis of a small automobile to provide a minicamper vehicle. Only the front hood and fenders of the original body are left on the chassis. The camper body includes a new windshield opening and provides side floorboard portions on the bottom sides thereof which attach to the respective sides of the original floorpan of the chassis and thereby serve to widen the floorboard of the camper body. Stepped portions on the bottom rear of the camper body provide for extending over the rear wheels and the motor mounted on the rear of the chassis for the purpose of lengthening the camper body.

  • Patent number: 4025099
Abstract: A cable protecting device is attached to the wheel yoke of a cart equipped with swivel wheels. The device has a fender strap located forwardly of the cart wheel with same being connected to the wheel yoke at its upper end and further supported by a pair of braces at its lower end. A cable lifting plate is hinged to the lower end of the fender and extends to the floor level so that its leading end may receive and lift a cable encountered by the cart.
