Abstract: A child's tricycle includes a slider (17) and a locking member (30) engageable by the slider at one end of the path of travel of the slider in order to selectively inhibit the turning movement relative to a vehicle body (3) of a handle assembly (6) holding a front wheel (4). The slider is slidably held by a guide member (11) which is provided on one of the elements, the vehicle body and the handle assembly, while the locking member is provided on the other element. The tricycle also includes a spring (25) for urging the slider to fit in the locking member and an engaging structure (12, 20) for holding the slider against the force of the spring at a position where it does not fit in the locking member. When the turning movement of the handle assembly is inhibited, the direction of the front wheel relative to the vehicle body is fixed, which means that when the tricycle is pushed from behind, the direction of travel of the tricycle is fixed, so that the tricycle can be easily pushed forward.

Abstract: A longitudinal frame is provided having upper front and rear end portions, a first stationary wheel supporting fork is dependingly supported from one of said portions and a second wheel supporting fork is oscillatably supported from the other frame portion for angular displacement about an outstanding axis. Rotatable mechanically operated power input structure is journaled from a lower intermediate length portion of the frame and drivingly connected to the wheel journaled from the first fork and the upper front and rear end portions of the frame have an oscillatable steering control and a stationary seat supported therefrom. The oscillatable steering control is operatively connected to the second wheel supporting fork and the rotatable power input structure includes a transverse horizontal shaft drivingly connected to the wheel of the first fork and having oscillatable pedal cranks operatively connected thereto through ratchet mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 4394029
Abstract: A foot operated vehicle having a frame with a flat foot support platform supported by front and rear wheels for the support of one foot of the operator while the vehicle is propelled by the other foot of the operator and wherein turning is accomplished by a leaning motion of the operator in the intended direction of the turn. A steerable front wheel assembly of the vehicle includes a front axle, a front wheel mounted on the front axle, a steering shaft connected to the front axle and assembled to the frame for pivotal rotation of the front wheel about a generally upright axis. Bias means are connected between the steering shaft and the frame operable to bias the front wheel in a straight ahead or centered position with respect to the frame whereby upon execution of a turn, the front wheel pivots in the direction of the turn against the influence of the bias means, and is returned to the straight ahead position by the bias means upon completion of the turn.

  • Patent number: 3990716
Abstract: A resilient steering stabilizer for cycles, e.g. a bicycle is provided wherein a pair of crank arms, one on each side of the steering fork of the cycle connects respectively with a pair of pivot arms which turn on a common axle mounted on the cycle frame. Each pivot arm turns against and compresses helical springs mounted on such frame, on both sides of the axle, which springs resist excessive turning of the steering wheel of the cycle. The stabilizer of the invention is, in brief, a centering device which, by spring compression, tends to center a cycle steering wheel or other desired apparatus component.

Abstract: A two wheeled, rider propelled vehicle having both wheels pivotably mounted upon a medial principal frame. The pivotable rear wheel frame supports pedal mechanism propelling the rear wheel and may be steered by the feet of the user. Mechanical biasing means communicate between the pivotable rear wheel frame and main frame to bias motion and a latching mechanism allows fixed positioning of the two members. A vertically adjustable seat is fixedly carried by the principal frame and the forward portion of the vehicle provides a traditional manually steerable, pivotably mounted front wheel frame.
