The cart has a top structure, such as a roof, which extends horizontally above the frame, the periphery of which approximates or extends beyond the periphery of the frame. The top structure is normally supported above the cart's frame using three or more laterally collapsible supports for permitting the top structure to be displaced laterally while remaining substantially horizontal so as to minimize energy transfer upon lateral impact of the periphery of the top structure with an object. Each of the preferred collapsible supports comprises a tubular member elastically sandwiched between top and bottom plates mounted to the top structure and frame respectively.

  • Patent number: 6260863
Abstract: A nestable lumber cart has a wheeled base having a front end, a rear end, and opposite sides, the sides of the base tapering outwardly from the front end to the rear end of the cart, an outer side wall extending along at least part of the length of each side from the rear end of the base, and a pair of spaced inner side walls extending along at least part of the base from the rear end of the cart and spaced inwardly from the respective outer side wall. The inner side walls define a central channel for supporting flat panels in an upright orientation, and each inner side wall and adjacent outer side wall defines a side channel on a respective side of the central channel for supporting beams. Each side wall has an outward taper matching that of the base sides from the front to the rear end of the cart. The base of the cart is designed to permit nesting so that the front end of one cart can nest into the rear end of another cart.

  • Patent number: 6224072
Abstract: A household cart has a wooden or molded plastic rectangular base for carrying household items. Four caster assemblies on the base are close to the four corners of the base. A U-shaped handle has hooks for carrying household items approximately halfway between side edges of the base, about equidistant from front and back edges of the base. The handle can be positioned either transversely or longitudinally of the base. In the handle transverse position, legs of the handle fit into a first pair of receptacles located between (1) the casters close to the base back edge and (2) the cart transverse center line. In the longitudinal position, the legs fit into a second pair of receptacles located along a longitudinal center line of the base. The receptacles of the first pair are spaced from each other by the same distance as the receptacles of the second pair.
