  • Patent number: 6712369
Abstract: An electrical wheelchair includes a chassis to which a frame is pivotally mounted. Two casters are rotatably mounted to the frame. At least a resilient member is arranged between the frame and the chassis for supporting the relative position of the frame with respect to the chassis. The resilient member can be deformed to change the relative position of the frame with respect to the chassis to allow the wheelchair to climb over raised surfaces of different heights. The deformation of the resilient member also stores energy therein which may be released when the wheelchair is about to reach the raised surface for enhancing the wheelchair to move over the raised surface. Further, the resilient member also functions to absorb shock caused by the wheelchair moving down a step-like raised surface.

  • Patent number: 6402161
Abstract: A portable load transporting dolly having a mechanism manually operable for selectively ascending or descending steps is shown. The dolly has generally cross-shaped wheels and a pivotal driving lever is located at its handle. A cable couples the pivotal driving lever to the rotating shaft of the cross-shaped wheels through a plurality of pulleys and ratchet gears such that the wheels may be rotated easily by gripping the lever. The radial arms of the cross-shaped wheels have sliding reciprocative rods which react with the steps of the staircase to enhance the climbing action of the dolly on the staircase.

  • Patent number: 6386552
Abstract: A sack trolley (1) comprises a support frame (2) presenting a lower pair of carrying wheels (4) and a hoist mechanism (6) for climbing steps, which comprises a lifting arm (10) equipped with support rollers at its free end and which can be swivelled about a swivelling axis (S) parallel to the carrying wheel axis (L) by means of a crank drive (8). In order to achieve step-climbing assistance which is simple, space-saving, easy to handle and functionally safe, the lifting arm (10) is comprised of a swing guide component (11) swivel-mounted about the swivel axis (S) and a support component (12) taking up the support rollers (13) and longitudinally displaceable compared to the swivel guide component (11), whereby the crank drive (8) is articulated on the support component (12) with its crank arm (9).

  • Patent number: 6357765
Abstract: An obstacle traversing wheel assembly that rolls easily without dragging over electrical cords, trash and debris includes a primary wheel that is journaled on an axle which is attached to a load carrying frame. At least four independently rotatable secondary wheels are mounted around the circumference of the primary wheel at locations equidistant from each other and from the primary wheel axle. The secondary wheels are all of the same diameter and are spaced apart on the primary wheel at a distance that is less than the diameter of a secondary wheel. The wheel assembly finds use as the wheel members on luggage, as the leading wheel of an in-line skate board, and for supporting any other load carrying module that is rolled across a debris-strewn surface.

  • Patent number: 6224068
Abstract: The present invention configures a pushcart, in particular a baggage cart such as is used in airports, for ease of maneuverability in negotiating an escalator stairway. The cart is fitted with a front wheel assembly and pivotable rear wheel assemblies, as well as with drop-attenuating mechanisms fitted to each wheel assembly. The rear wheel assemblies each include a reverse-releasable, pivoting-lock mechanism. The drop attenuating mechanisms function when the pivotable wheel assemblies are locked in the pushcart advancing direction, and include damped-swing traction members for establishing adhesive friction in contacting the treads of a sloping escalator stairway. The traction members bear the pushcart through a damped swing if the wheel assemblies are not riding on the treads of the escalator steps.
