  • Patent number: 8567817
Abstract: A side airbag has a high-pressure chamber and a low-pressure chamber with a pressure lower than the pressure in the high-pressure chamber. An inflator is provided in the low-pressure chamber with a gas discharge section facing the high-pressure chamber. In a side collision, gas from the inflator is supplied mainly toward the high-pressure chamber and is supplied also to the low-pressure chamber. The high-pressure chamber and the low-pressure chamber are partitioned by a partition wall. A check valve mounted to the partition wall is opened by the pressure gas supplied from the inflator, which is provided in the low-pressure chamber, toward the high-pressure chamber, and thus the cheek valve permits the gas to flow from the low-pressure chamber to the high-pressure chamber. When the inflator completes the discharge of the gas, the check valve restricts such flow of the gas from the high-pressure chamber to the low-pressure chamber.

Abstract: A restraint system having support elements can be transferred from a storage position to a restraint position. Flexible casing elements are disposed between the support elements and have air flow openings, such that the support elements having the flexible casing elements enclose a restraint volume in the restraint position. A resistance element is disposed at each of the air flow openings in order to impede or prevent the escape of air from the restraint volume compared to the inflow at the respective air flow opening. Such resistance elements may be formed by a second layer, displaced fabric threads, flexible fabric web sections and other elements such that a check valve function is provided.

Abstract: An airbag module for a vehicle includes a gas generator for generating a gas and a multi-chamber airbag operatively connected to the gas generator for receiving the gas. The airbag defines a first inflation chamber, at least one second inflation chamber, at least one third inflation chamber and a fourth inflation chamber. The airbag includes internal vents configured to allow selective communication between the first chamber and each of the at least one second chamber and the at least one third chamber and selective communication between the at least one second chamber and the fourth chamber. The internal vents are configured to maintain a higher pressure in selective chambers by restricting ability of the gas to escape the selective chamber. Abstract: Disclosed herein is a curtain airbag cushion. The cushion has a length appropriate for being deployed to the chest of a passenger. A blocking part which partitions the interior of the cushion into portions is oriented in the vertical direction. The lower end of the blocking part is spaced apart from the bottom of the cushion by a predetermined distance. Thus, when an inflator explodes, gas discharged from the inflator is guided towards the lower portion of the cushion and then guided towards the front or upper portion of the cushion through the space between the lower end of the blocking part and the bottom of the cushion.

The pressure reducing portion limits the thickness of the airbag in the widthwise direction of a vehicle and prevents the arm from being pressed inward in the widthwise direction. A support joint portion joins the fabric portions at a position below the lower end of the pressure reducing portion and behind the front end of the pressure reducing portion when the airbag is arranged in such a manner that a linear portion of the airbag extends vertically. The support joint portion projects toward the pressure reducing portion beyond the line including the lower end of the airbag and the lower end of the linear portion. The end of the support joint portion located close to the pressure reducing portion is located below the lower end of the pressure reducing portion.
