  • Patent number: 7374002
Abstract: The present invention provides a suspension for a conveyance that is capable of traversing obstacles and rough terrain. The suspension includes a frame, a pivot arm, a front caster, a drive assembly and a rear caster. Abstract: A first exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes detecting pressures applied to a left front wheel, a left back wheel, a right front wheel, and a right back wheel; and judging that the possibility of roll over exists if any of the pressures applied to the left wheels, the right wheels, or the front wheels is greater than a reference pressure. A second exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes detecting pressures applied to the wheels; and judging that the possibility of roll over exists if a difference in the pressures of the left wheels and the right wheels, or the pressures of the front wheels and the back wheels, is greater than a reference difference. • Patent number: 6978200
Abstract: An activation device for a passenger protection apparatus is made up of a sensor for detecting a roll angular velocity of a vehicle, a unit for calculating a roll relative angle on the basis of the roll angular velocity, and a unit for making a judgment indicating a roll of the vehicle when the velocity and the angle satisfy a threshold condition. A control unit activates an air bag when making a judgment indicating a roll. A vehicle collision state is discriminated on the basis of right-hand and left-hand accelerations detected by acceleration sensors and the threshold condition for the judgment on a roll of the vehicle is switched in accordance with the collision state. This enables a trip-over type roll to be detected at an early stage for activating the passenger protection apparatus quickly.

  • Patent number: 6941205
Abstract: A control system for an automotive vehicle having a vehicle body includes a sensor cluster having a housing oriented within the vehicle body. A roll rate sensor is positioned within the housing and generates a roll rate sensor signal corresponding to a roll angular motion of the sensor housing. A controller receives the roll rate sensor signal and generates a reference roll angle. The controller also compares the reference roll angle to the roll rate sensor signal and generates a roll rate sensor fault signal in response a fault determined in said roll rate sensor.

  • Patent number: 6938924
Abstract: A vehicle anti-rollover system including at least one gas generator which discharges a gas flow sideways, to an atmosphere where the vehicle is rolling over under a rollover force of the vehicle, when the gas generator is activated or actuated during a vehicle rollover. A predetermined force of the gas flow produces a reactive force applied to the vehicle. The rollover force of the vehicle is directed sideways where the vehicle is rolling over, while the reactive force of the gas flow of the anti-rollover system is directed sideways in an opposite direction. Thus, the reactive force of the gas flow reduces the rollover force and minimizes the risk of a rollover crash or rolling over and serious vehicle occupant's injuries. In a vehicle unstable or rollover situation to avoid a vehicle rolling over, the system also allows the vehicle occupant to actuate the gas generator and to stabilize the vehicle almost instantly.

Abstract: A wheelchair is provided with front anti-tip wheels adapted to assist the wheelchair in mounting an obstacle that the wheelchair approaches obliquely. The anti-tip wheels may function as casters, capable of rotating about a vertical axis, or may be fixed for rotation about a horizontal axis only. The anti-tip wheels may include lateral convex surfaces which tend to allow the anti-tip wheel to slide or roll over the obstacle. The lateral convex surfaces may be provided by a laterally oriented rolling element, a convex-shaped hub, a convex-shaped housing that partially surrounds the wheel, or a ball-shaped wheel. Alternatively, rotation of the anti-tip wheel may be controlled such that the wheel rolling surface faces and engages the obstacle.
