Abstract: A device simply the alignment of a trailer tongue of a towed vehicle for coupling to the tow bar of a towing vehicle. The device includes a direction orientable wheeled body having a socket thereon to receive the lower end of a vertical tongue jack of the trailer whereby movement of the wheel of the device aligns the trailer tongue hitch socket with the hitch ball of a towing vehicle. Wheel movement is achieved by rotation of a gear in engagement with the wheel.
Abstract: A trailer driver for moving and supporting a trailer is disclosed. A frame provides a base for supporting two downwardly facing opposing arms. A fixed bearing extends upwardly from the base and supports a vertical hitch shaft that is rotatably engaged within the bearing. A trailer hitch clamp is removably fixed to the hitch shaft and is adapted for holding a trailer hitch. The hitch shaft engaging a cover and further provides a fixed steering sprocket coaxial with the hitch shaft. A drive wheel is rotatably mounted on a horizontal axle, which is positioned between the two arms of the frame, and engages a drive sprocket for rotating therewith on the axle. An electric motor is fixed to the frame and provides a driven sprocket interconnected with the drive sprocket by a first drive belt. A drive circuit drives the motor in either a forward or reverse direction.
Abstract: A self-propelled trailer maneuvering dolly for transporting a fifth wheel trailer or a travel trailer. The dolly has a frame, a front handlebar and castor for steering, a pair of rear drive wheels for driving the dolly, a pneumatic motor, and sprocket wheels and chains for transmitting power to the drive wheels. There is a pneumatically extensible and retractable vertical lift, which has a top for engaging with the coupling member of a fifth wheel trailer and it also has a hitch ball for hitching up to a convention travel trailer. A spring biased lift bracket below the frame keeps the drive wheels off the ground when the trailer is empty so that the operator can easily maneuver the dolly into position below the coupling member of a fifth wheel to be moved. A lever supplies pressurized air to the lift, which in turn raises the front end of the fifth wheel trailer. The weight of the trailer is centered on the dolly and also keeps the drive wheels on the ground.
Abstract: A motorized device for aiding the maneuvering of trailers subsequent to detachment from the towing vehicle is presented which comprises a shaft attachable to the drawbar of the trailer and which is adjustable for height. At least one wheel is mounted at the end of the shaft with the axis of the wheel being perpendicular to the shaft. At least one driving device for driving the wheel in rotation about its axis and a swivelling device for swivelling the wheel are also provided.
Abstract: A steerable device for moving trailer type vehicles, for example in working and parking areas. The device includes an engine for driving at least one of the wheels, means for connecting the device to that part of a trailer type vehicle normally connected to the fifth wheel connection of a tractor unit, and tiller steering for turning a steerable wheel or wheels. The device also includes an air compressor driven by the engine and a flexible connection provided with a quick-release adaptor for coupling the air compressor to the braking system of a trailer type vehicle for releasing its brakes.
