Abstract: A label/form is provided for effecting delivery of a mailpiece by a special service. The label/form contains detachable parts for subsequent attachment to a return postcard and/or a mailpiece to effect delivery of the mailpiece by the special service. Further, a plurality of auxiliary labels are provided. The auxiliary labels correspond to address labels, receipt labels and/or a special service designator section. A second special services designator section may be provided to give the sender of the mailpiece a choice between two or more special services.

Abstract: A planar form or structure is used to create a thin card capable of receiving and retaining printed indicia, including written signatures, on both opposing surfaces. The structure and related method allow the exposed carrier surface and the underlying release agent layer to receive and retain printed indicia, including written signatures, while retaining an extremely thin, yet tear-resistant, card structure. The release agent layer solidifies from a liquid to form a film capable of receiving and retaining printed indicia, written signatures, and the like which may be printed or written upon through the peeling away of the transparent lamina layer to expose the underlying release agent layer for receiving the indicia. The resulting structure preferably exhibits a flexibility due to its thickness lying within the range of 15-30 microns plus the thickness of the carrier.

Abstract: A packaging assembly for at least one article including wrapping material for the article and an elongated tape to assist in removing the wrapping material from the article, the elongated tape including a visible gripping portion positioned externally of the wrapped article and a hidden portion positioned within the wrapped article, each portion of the tape having messages associated therewith which are intellectually compatible.

Abstract: Multi-part business forms having speciality electronically imaged indicia are produced in a low-cost, high speed, low waste, and enhanced flexibility manner. While two part or four or more part forms may be produced, especially advantageous is the production of three part forms, such as airbills. After individual first, second and third parts are produced using conventional presses, the individual webs are separately fed to a collator and while fed to the collator are electronically imaged with speciality indicia, such as the name and address of the sender, airbill number, and—for the third part—a bar code. The webs are then collated on the collator, two business forms wide. A three part airbill produced includes first and second parts of carbonless paper stock having personalized first indicia electronically imaged on them, and a third part of carbonless label stock having the personalized indicia, and including bar code indicia, electronically imaged on it.

Abstract: A continuous assembly of special service mailing labels and a method for preparing mailpieces requiring delivery by a special service are provided. The labels are adhesively secured to a backer and removable therefrom for application to a mailpiece. The labels include at least one area that may be printed, and a designation area that is distinct from a majority of the remainder of the label. The designation area identifies the type of special service required for the mailpiece to which the label is attached. In addition, the labels include a detachable auxiliary information portion which may serve as either a return address label or a customer receipt.

Abstract: A label sheet having at least two labels for a compact disc. The compact disc has a read side and a reverse side with an outer diameter of the readable or writable area of the read side being less than the outer diameter of the disc and having a first inner diameter forming an aperture for the disc and a second inner diameter which is larger than the first forming a step. The labels have a dimension so that an inner diameter of the label forming an aperture or opening in the label is greater than the second internal diameter of the disc, preferably by an amount of 2 mm to 4 mm, and the label has an outer diameter which is less than the outer diameter of the readable or writable area, so that an annular ring of the readable area is visible around the periphery of the label.

Abstract: A combination shipping label/invoice form, including a shipping label section detachably secured along a dividing border to an invoice section, the shipping label section bordered at a first edge by a first marginal strip and at a second edge by a second marginal strip, the invoice section bordered by a third edge and a fourth edge, the shipping label section being wider between the first and second edges than the invoice section between the third and fourth edges, such that folding the invoice section along the dividing border and against the shipping label section results in the invoice section lying between the first and second edges of the shipping label section, where the lower side of the first and second marginal strips is coated with adhesive.

Abstract: Unauthorized alteration of a document can be avoided in a secure document that includes a substrate (10) defining the body of the document. Indicia (24, 26, 30, 32, 36 and 40) located on the substrate (10) designate an area (42) to receive variable information by an impression. The variable information is that whose alteration is to be avoided. A chemical, carbonless imaging system (44) is disposed on the substrate (10) at the area (42) and is operative to form a visible image upon receipt of an impression and a transparent film (46) is located on the substrate (10) to cover the area (42). As a consequence of the construction, any attempt to alter an image appearing on the film (46) will be apparent from the original imaging of the chemical carbonless imaging system (44) or by smudging thereof indicating an alteration attempt.

Abstract: A multi-part, partially pre-printed form useful as an airbill has address information printed thereon by a non-impact printer. Different configurations of the form are described, including panels overlappingly affixed together by an adhesive having removable strips defined by cuts through the top overlapping panels. The center panel is transparent or at least translucent. The address information printed on the outer panels is in a mirror image format relative to the information printed on the transparent panel.

Abstract: A template sheet forming postal meter labels or combination postal meter/address labels are described upon which postal indicia can be printed, by a non-impact printer, less than one-quarter inch from the edge of the label. The sheet includes a plurality of removably affixed meter tape or meter tape/address labels positioned on one face of a laminated individual or continuous feed sheet. The combination meter tape/address labels are self-aligning for conforming to United States Postal Service IBIP specifications.

Abstract: A mailing assembly for use in connection with non-domestic delivery of a mailpiece wherein the sender of the mailpiece is required to complete the sender's declaration. The assembly includes a mailing label, a tracking area, and a backing sheet. Alternatively, the assembly includes a mailing label, a tracking area, a receipt card, and a backing sheet. The mailing label and tracking area are detachably connected to each other and form an entirely complete mailing form. The mailing label, the tracking area, and the receipt card may form the entirety of the mailing form. Such form is adhesively connected to the backing sheet. An adhesive layer is provided between the mailing form and the backing sheet. The sender provides all of the necessary information on the mailing label relating to the contents of the mailpiece being delivered. The sender may also add a machine-readable code to the tracking area which aids in the tracking of the mailpiece.

Abstract: A specimen container label is particularly suited for use by robotic elements to improve the tedious process of aliquoting urine samples to increase productivity and decrease costs in laboratories. The label has a substrate with top and bottom surfaces and pressure sensitive adhesive provided on the bottom surface to effectively secure the label to a specimen container. The substrate also includes a central enlarged, preferably circular in plan, portion, with at least one wing, typically two opposite wings, extending outwardly from the central enlarged portion, and an opening in the substrate at the central portion which allows a robotic element to handle a specimen container cover over which the substrate central portion is applied. The opening may be covered with a glassine patch, which is easily pierced by the robotic element. The label may initially be provided with a release liner of the same dimensions and configuration, and the wings may be necked down where they engage the central portion.

Abstract: The printable substrate of biaxially multi-layered laminate material is perforated to define an integral strap having a free end for insertion into a crescent-cut slotted opening. An additional perforation defines an optional, removable index card that may be printed upon when the tag itself is printed. The tag substrate may be provided as a continuous web that has been perforated to define multiple tags, suitable for printing and dispensing by automated mechanism.

Abstract: A business form is provided which is particularly useful in shipping products where certain preprinted information can be provided and then individualized information is printed before the form is applied to a substrate. The form includes a face ply which has a pattern of adhesive applied to at least a portion of the inner face, and a release liner which includes a pattern of adhesive which exposes a portion of the release liner to direct adhesive contact to the face ply without intervening release coating to permanently adhere a part of the release liner to the face ply. The release liner has a surrounding protective border provided with release coating on the release face thereof and which is removed prior to application to the substrate, and a slip which remains with the form as applied to the substrate. The face ply includes lines of perforation defining a central portion.

Abstract: A business card assembly having a standard wallet-sized card with top and bottom surfaces. Business card identification information is printed on the top surface. Two or more adhesive-backed removable labels are secured to the bottom surface of the business card, and each of these labels has the business card identification information printed on it. The labels may be peeled off and placed, for example, in one's personal planner, file, or other convenient location. The card may be a traditional flat style, or a tent style. The card may also include a release liner beneath the removable labels, the release liner also optionally including additional printed information.

Abstract: A multi-ply business form, comprising a chain of custody form having a first section for recording information required by federal drug testing regulations, and a second section containing one or more adhesive labels for labeling containers of body fluid specimens to be tested, and, an airbill form detachably secured to the chain of custody form, the airbill form containing a first part for recording information about sender and recipient of the container, and a second part containing an adhesive label containing information about sender and recipient, the adhesive label arranged to be secured to the container.

Abstract: A combined medical device and form (20) having a unitary substrate (22) which is divided into a medical device portion (24) and a form portion (26). The form portion (24) of the substrate includes an informational section (30, 32, 34), and form identification material (36). The medical device portion (26) is illustrated as a DBS packet for collecting blood samples. The medical device portion (26) also has medical device identification material (68) that is preferably identical to the form identification material (36). With identical identification materials, which are preferably machine readable, the occurrences of patient misidentifications are substantially reduced if not eliminated.

Abstract: A multi-part (e.g. three part) business form is particularly suited for use in dispensing sample drugs where it is necessary to have a label to be placed on a sample medication container, a like label to be placed on the patient's chart, and a record sheet, to be placed in the sample medication distribution log. First and second top and intermediate, respectively, label parts each have a face ply having pressure sensitive adhesive on a back surface and in engagement with an adhesive release coated liner ply, and a third, bottom, paper part underlies the first and second parts. Common non-variable indicia is imaged on the first part face ply, the second part face ply, and the third part, and the parts are releasably connected together (e.g. by permanent adhesive and a line of weakness, adjacent the top edges of the parts) so that at least some of the common indicia is in alignment. Carbonless coatings transfer indicia imaged on the first part face ply to the second part face ply and to the third part.

Abstract: The printable substrate of biaxially multi-layered laminate material is perforated to define an integral loop structure having a slotted opening to receive the tag body and thereby secure the tag to an article. An additional perforation defines an optional, removable index card that may be printed upon when the tag itself is printed. The tag substrate may be provided as a continuous web that has been perforated to define multiple tags, suitable for printing and dispensing by automated mechanism.

Abstract: A shopping reminder system which includes a label having an indicator element or sticker that is affixed to, and essentially a miniature replica of, a product label. The sticker is intended to be peeled from the label and attached to a shopping list. The indicator element bears the image, or indicia, of the consumer product to which it is affixed, and preferably has a non-drying adhesive backing that makes the indicator element removable, transferable, and reusable. Since the indicator element bears the exact image of the consumer product represented, this device enables a consumer to readily determine and consistently obtain the exact type of product needing replenishment. A method of using the shopping reminder system is also described.

Abstract: A form, such as a mailing form, constructed on a single laminated sheet of standard paper size, which is printable by a single pass through a standard non-impact printer, and extendible to provide additional surface area for the form exceeding standard paper size. The extendible form can be adapted for use with mailing forms such as multi-part collated unit sets. The form is useful for providing a Customs Declaration and Dispatch Note having each part printable by a single pass through a non-impact printer.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a key locator (10) having a tag (12). A key attachment means (14) is securely attached to the tag (12) and at least one key (16) is securely attached to the key attachment means (14). At least one set of instructions (18) are inscribed on the tag (12). The tag (12) includes a mailing address (20) having mailing address postage indicia (20A) inscribed on the tag (12). A microchip (22) which comprises an user's personal identifier therein embedded with the tag (12). A bar code (24) which comprises an user's personal identifier therein inscribed on the tag (12), along with a magnetic strip (26) which also has an user's personal identifier therein recorded. A method is included describing the method to record the user's personal identifier onto the tag (12).

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for sealing pressure compensation openings in components in particular of a motor vehicle control unit. Previously, pressure compensation openings were sealed in the interior of the housing by a watertight and gas-permeable material affixed by adhesion. In accordance with the invention, the opening is sealed from the outside with a two-layered material where a wide-area first layer consists of a material that can be inscribed and a second layer, which can also be provided over just a part of the total area, is a watertight and gas-permeable membrane. At those places where pressure compensation occurs, the first layer is removed so that only the membrane acts. The first layer can be used here as a label. Advantages offered by this device are that the housing and the membrane are joined over a much larger area, the process can be monitored, and one process step is saved.

Abstract: This need is met by the present invention wherein an improved shipment form is provided comprising a partially releasable liner ply, a peel-out package label portion, and a peel-out signature tab. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a shipment form is provided comprising a face sheet, a liner ply, and an adhesive interposed between the face sheet and the liner ply. The face sheet includes printed indicia for indicating an attempted delivery. The adhesive includes a laminating adhesive portion and a reusable adhesive portion. The liner ply defines a releasable liner ply portion adjoining a laminated liner ply portion. The releasable liner ply portion is configured to releasably adhere to the reusable adhesive portion while remaining adjoined to the laminated liner ply portion.

Abstract: A label/form is provided for attaching portions thereof to a mailpiece or shipping item particularly for special service handling of the mailpiece or shipping item. Detachable parts are provided on a sheet for subsequent attachment to the mailpiece or shipping item following printing thereof. The label/form includes a number of adhesively-backed label sections and a return postcard section for selected attachment at selected areas of the mailpiece or shipping item to identify the mailpiece or shipping item and simplify the task of designating special services for a particular mailpiece or shipping item. The label/form is designed so that information unique to the mailpiece, such as the identifications of the sender and addressee and special handling requests, can be printed on one side of the label/form only.

Abstract: A business form (preferably continuous) with self-contained labels has significant versatility and a number of advantages. A cellulose ply is applied larger than a release liner ply, while the release liner ply may be provided so that one edge (e.g. with tractor drive holes) extends past a substantially parallel edge of the cellulose ply. At the opposite edge of the release liner ply adhesive release material is provided along between about 10-50% of the length of the edge so that the release material covered portion of the edge is not substantially permanently adhered to the edge by the adhesive between the plies. This allows the labels formed in the cellulose ply where overlapped by the release liner to be removed from the back or front, and allows one to separate the release liner ply completely from the cellulose ply for ease of recycling. The method of making the forms typically uses a conventional Webtron press.

Abstract: A system for exterior identification of blueprints or other cylindrically rolled documents is disclosed utilizing an identification indicium having a laterally distended bulb portion affixed to an elongated stem portion. The identification indicium is formed of a unitary piece of flexible yet durable material such as plastic, reinforced paper, cardboard, or the like. Both the bulb portion and stem portion each have a first face opposed parallel to a second face. In contact with the first face of the stem portion is a layer of self stick adhesive of an otherwise conventional type. Along the second face of the bulb portion is a writing surface used to position flat against the outside end of a cylindrical roll of documents. The stem portion extends outward from the bulb portion in one radial direction.

Abstract: A package delivery facilitating business form, and method of facilitating delivery of the package, are easy to use and implement. A business form typically is a sheet with three sections each backed with repositional adhesive and one of the sections having bar coding which indicates a number of different reasons for non-delivery of a package. If a package cannot be successfully delivered on a first attempt the third section of the form is detached and adhesively secured at the attempted delivery location and the identification bar code and reason for non-delivery bar code on the first section are scanned into the computer, and the first section is adhesively secured to the non-deliverable package. If a second attempt is also unsuccessful a release liner is removed from the adhesive on the second section, and a second section is adhesively secured at the attempted-delivery section.

Abstract: A system of employing a single bar code provided on a shipping label for coordinating shipping and receiving information between supplier and customer includes accessing a supplier digital processor including a parts database from a customer digital processor via a digital communication link. Purchase order information is selected in the parts database. Authorization is provided from the customer digital processor to the supplier digital processor for the immediate shipment of the selected purchase order by means of an authorization command, and a single bar code is generated and provided on a shipping label in response to the authorization command, whereby the single bar code is linked to a plurality of predetermined relevant purchase and shipping information associated with the purchase order.

Abstract: A multi-layered adhesive label suitable for processing through a laser printer includes a substantially tear resistant layer with a printable layer permanently adhered to one side of the tear resistant layer. An adhesive layer is permanently adhered to the other side of the tear resistant layer. The label can comprise two discrete portions. Each label portion can have a permanent adhesive layer or a non-permanent adhesive layer. Thus, one label portion can be removably adhered to a receiving surface while the other portion is permanently adhered to the same receiving surface.

Abstract: A multi-ply business form includes at least a lower ply and an upper ply wherein the upper ply overlies only a portion of the lower ply, leaving a first portion of the lower ply exposed in adjacent relationship to the upper ply. The upper ply has a two part label thereon including a release layer on a relatively small part of the upper ply, and an adhesive label overlying the release layer. The release layer and the adhesive label have information impact printed thereon, while the exposed portion of the lower ply has information non-impact printed thereon. The upper ply is also temporarily adhesively secured to the lower ply along at least two edges of the upper ply.

Abstract: A method for confirming the authenticity of an article including placing a semi hard piece of material on an article then printing a magnetic pattern on the semi hard piece of material. In order to view the pattern, a viewer containing a suspension of materials will be placed over the semi hard piece of material. The suspension of materials will then orient in the presence of a magnetic field adjacent to the magnetic material.

Abstract: A non-contact type data carrier label has a data carrier for storing information and a support member for holding the data carrier, and it is able to attach to a product. The support member has a holding portion for holding the data carrier and paste portion to be pasted on the product in a attachable/detachable manner. A releasable type adhesive layer is formed on the support member. Thus, the data carrier label can be attached to and detached from the product more easily compared with that of conventional one.

Abstract: An integrated shelf talker, comprising a paper substrate having a front surface and a back surface, each of the front and back surfaces having first and second end edges and a medially disposed portion, the substrate having a vertical perforation along the entire length thereof and located in the medial portion of the front and back surfaces to divide the substrate into first and second sections, the substrate further having a strip of repositionable adhesive applied to the medial portion of one of the front and back surfaces such that when the substrate is separated into the first and second sections along the vertical perforation, each of the first and second end edges is free of adhesive.

Abstract: The invention relates to an information display device which attaches to a tubular conduit. The tubular conduit has a longitudinal axis for transporting liquids. A display member having lateral and vertical edges and a display area for displaying information is attached to said tubular conduit by a tubular portion having a longitudinal vertical axis substantially parallel with the vertical edge of the display member. The attachment mechanism has an opening in the exterior wall along said longitudinal axis for inserting the tubular conduit therein. The display area is used for recording information. An extension member extends beyond the display area wrapping around the attachment tubular conduit for securing said information display device to said tubular conduit.

Abstract: The computer disk label that forms the basis for the present invention comprises a sheet of flexible material including three portions. The first portion at one edge of the sheet has sections that are selectively removed or retained to form a first side of a tab. The second adjacent portion has sections that fold over the outer edge of a disk and adhere to one side of the disk if aligned with the removed sections of the first portions. Otherwise, sections of the second portion extend from the outer edge of the disk to form a side of the tab if aligned with retained sections of the first portion. The third portion of the sheet is disposed to engage and adhere to the opposite side of the disk from the folded sections of the second portion. The first side of the tab is folded down to contact and adhere to the second side of the tab thereby forming a tab that extends out from the outer edge of the disk.

Abstract: A multi-part, partially pre-printed form useful as an airbill has address information printed thereon by a non-impact printer. The form includes top and bottom transparent plastic sheets affixed together by an adhesive having three panels defined by perforation cuts through the top sheet and die cuts through the bottom sheet. The adhesive facing side of one of the sheets is preprinted with information appearing on each panel. In addition, a background opaque color is printed over the information on two outer panels, leaving the center panel transparent. The information pre-printed on the opaque panels having is in a mirror image format relative to the information pre-printed on the transparent panel. The address is printed on the outward side of the bottom sheet such that the address printed on the transparent panel is a mirror image relative to the information on outer panels. A four part form is also disclosed.

Abstract: An assembly for mailing an article requiring delivery by a special service and a method for mailing same are provided. The assembly includes a single sheet constructed in such a way that one portion of the sheet provides a label and the other portion provides a return postcard or other special service form for attachment to an envelope in its assembled position. The sheet includes a backing to which the portions are attached. The backing may include a section that is printable and frozen to the postcard such that the section remains attached to the mailpiece after printing. The return postcard is integrally formed, but removably attached, such that the return postcard remains attached to the envelope until received by the addressee, at which time the return postcard may be removed.

Abstract: A display strip for a CD jukebox which includes the artwork from a CD jacket along with a list of titles associated with the CD is constructed on a single piece of paper. A method for constructing the CD jukebox display strip includes the steps of scanning a graphic image of a CD jacket, editing the scanned image, overlaying the image onto a template, inserting song track and title information, printing the image and trimming the image to size.

Abstract: A label comprises an upper surface, a lower surface having an adhesive layer thereon to permit adherence of the label to a surface, and a handle portion. The handle has thereon a substantially centrally located pull tab and a series of cuts which permit unfolding of the handle portion into a hanging strip. The cuts are arranged such that the handle portion unfolds along the cuts when the pull tab is pulled. The handle portion has a deadening layer on the adhesive layer thereof.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for achieving accurate positioning of freight in a freight receptacle, without requiring skill on the part of the material handling equipment operator. The method and apparatus uses specially marked forms, a Freight Placement Index, and can be used in conjunction with a computer software program, computer, and a scale/scanner. The computer program identifies the correct load position, with respect to the Freight Placement Index inside the freight container after the load description has been entered into the computer. The scanner/scale enter the height, width, length, and weight of load materials. One method is for the load planner or material handling equipment, operator to input information about freight i.e. by use of a computer program and the scale/scanner unit. This program instructs the operator to position the load respective to the Freight Placement Index inside of the freight container or receptacle.

Abstract: Labels are provided with sequential numbers which are important in a number of different applications including whether or not there are enough labels left on a roll to perform various operations on the roll. Linerless labels in a spiral roll include an innermost label and an outermost label. Each label includes a substrate with an inner face primarily coated with pressure sensitive adhesive and an outer face coated with release material. The sequential numbers are typically unobtrusive, and are applied to one or both of the inner and outer faces, preferably on the substrate before the coatings are applied. Desirably the innermost label contains the lowest number (typically zero or one) and the outermost the highest. Various pattern coatings can be applied to the substrate, particularly for the adhesive, depending upon the particular application, including at the interface between labels to make them easier to cut at the interface without the blade sticking to adhesive.

Abstract: A combination shipping and packing list label includes a face stock having a front face and a back face. The front face has an exposed, printable, generally planar surface. The printable surface is divided into a first printable are a and a second printable area separated from one another by a common edge along one side thereof. The face stock has a border area substantially surrounding at least three sides of the first printable area. An adhesive layer is disposed on at least a portion of the back face of the face stock for allowing the face stock to be adhesively applied to any desired supporting surface. A backing layer includes a carrier strip with a non-stick surface. The backing layer removably covers the adhesive layer connected to the back face of the face stock.

Abstract: A method of making a drinking straw includes the steps of selecting a flat material suitable for making a drinking straw, printing indicia on the flat material in a position to form the end portions of the straw so that each end of the straw will have indicia indicating a different type of drink thereon and then forming the flat material into a straw with indicia on each end indicating a different type of drink, such as a diet or regular cola, so that a straw can distinguish a drink by the end of the straw protruding from the drink container. The straw can also be color coded and can be printed on an elongated flat material which is spiraled on a mandrel to form the straw. A straw wrapper can be imprinted on both ends in a similar manner and one end pulled back leaving the indicia on the other end.

Abstract: A label assembly for a package sleeve accommodating a storage media disc in a sleeve cavity thereof. The label assembly includes a removable tear strip covering the sleeve cavity such that when the tear strip is detached along perforation lines, the disc can be removed from the sleeve cavity. The tear strip also has a deadened adhesive portion so that no adhesive can contact the disc. In this label assembly, a first face and a second face are positioned on opposite sides of the tear strip. The first face includes mailing identification information regarding the package sleeve and the second face includes disc identification information regarding the storage media disc accommodated within the package sleeve.

Abstract: An anti-pilferage ring display system consists of a tag assembly which is attached to the shank of the ring and a display assembly for receiving the rings with the attached tag assemblies. The tag assembly includes an elongated, rigid card and a flexible, tear resistant strap for securing the card to the ring shank. A first end of the card includes an arcuate seat for receiving the ring shank in abutting relation. The strap is received through the shank of the ring wherein the first and second ends of the strap are secured to opposing surfaces of the card by means of pressure sensitive adhesive applied to the surfaces of the strap. The display assembly includes a pad having a plurality of slots for receiving the ring shanks and further includes a stand for supporting the slotted pad above a supporting surface. In use, the elongated card is passed through the slot so that the shank is received in the slot in a conventional manner.

Abstract: A single multipurpose tuck label/form is provided and is imprinted with only a single pass of a printer. The multipurpose tuck label/form includes a label ply and a liner ply, both having respective first and second sides. The first side of the liner ply contacts the second side of the label ply and includes a release coating thereon. Through a unique placement of the release coating on the liner ply and pattern-coated adhesive on the label ply, the tuck label/form can be imprinted in a single pass through a computer-driven printer and may be used without the need for any die cuts to be made on the liner ply.
