  • Patent number: 5276280
Abstract: A connector for electrical cable includes a tubular receptacle member and a wire-gripping member which mate with a wedge-fit so that the wire-gripping member squeezes down tighter on the electrical cable as it is pushed farther into the receptacle. The wire-gripping member includes wire gripping legs. The wire-gripping member is assembled together with the receptacle by inserting it through discontinuities in the receptacle, rotating it a few degrees, and then pushing it axially into the receptacle.

  • Patent number: 5275447
Abstract: A base member has an elongate bore, a base end, a distal end, an elongate inner sleeve extending from the base end to the distal end, a generally frusto-conical outer surface having a larger diameter adjacent to the base end and a reduced diameter at the distal end, and a radially extending flange attached to the base end of the inner sleeve. The outer surface of the inner sleeve has axially spaced protrusions positioned along its length. An outer sleeve extends around the inner sleeve, has an annular base portion positioned axially adjacent to the flange, and a plurality of finger portions attached to the base portion and distributed in mutually opposing relationship circumferentially about the inner sleeve and extending from adjacent to the base end of the inner sleeve to the distal end of the inner sleeve. The finger portions are movable radially relative to the inner sleeve and have frusto-conical inner surfaces generally conforming to the outer surface of the inner sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5230539
Abstract: A quick connect coupling for connecting a tube to a body having a stepped bore formed therethrough. The coupling includes a sleeve which is press fit in the bore. The inner surface of the sleeve has a cylindrical portion, a radially outwardly extending frusto-conical portion, and an internal shoulder defined therebetween. A collet is disposed within the sleeve having a boss portion which is slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the cylindrical portion of the sleeve. The boss portion supports and guides the collet for co-axial movement relative to the sleeve. The collet further includes an enlarged end portion having an external shoulder and a frusto-conical surface. The frusto-conical collet surface is disposed within the frusto-conical sleeve surface. The tube is inserted within the coupling within the collet. When it is attempted to move the tube out of the body, the frusto-conical collet surface engages the frusto-conical sleeve surface.

  • Patent number: 4890866
Abstract: There is disclosed a connector for attachment of flexible plastic tubing which is most compatible with filament reinforced tubing which resists elastic expansion. The connector has a central radial flange with opposite cylindrical ends which provide mandrels to receive adjacent ends of tubing. A cylindrical cage surrounds the cylindrical ends and supports chuck members. A pair of collet members are provided which slide over the tubing and the chuck members, compressing the chuck members radially inwardly without axial movement of the chuck members relative to the tubing. This deflects the chuck members into the wall of the tubing, thereby locking the tubing securely onto the mandrel. The collet member has an internal annular groove on its inside wall which receives an outer edge of the chuck members, thereby serving as a detent or interlock to resist the retraction of the collet member once it is moved into final position.

  • Patent number: 4616858
Abstract: A flexible pipe coupling for the end portions of two pipes has an elastic sleeve whose open ends receive the end portions of the pipes and which has a centrally located partition extending from its internal surface and abutting against the end faces of the inserted pipes. The partition is flanked by two internal grooves which are formed in the internal surface and are flanked by annular surfaces sloping inwardly toward the partition. The external surface of the sleeve has a centrally located outer groove and is surrounded by a split ring forming part of a clamp and having apertured lugs extending outwardly from the two end portions of the ring to be moved nearer to each other by a bolt and nut assembly whose shank extends through the apertures so that the sleeve is compressed and its internal surface sealingly engages the external surfaces of the pipes. The split ring has a corrugation which extends into the outer groove of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4603888
Abstract: An end fitting for rubber steam hoses with metal liners of interlocking construction comprises a stem that has zig-zag serrations formed on an intermediate portion of its outer surface for contacting and retaining the inside of a rubber hose, and has rib-type right hand spirals formed on an inner end portion of its outer surface so that a metal liner of interlocking construction is adapted to be screwed onto the spirals for retention of the metal liner from being pulled off the ste. on the stem and preventing the metal liner from being pulled off the stem. A clamp is provided that clamps the rubber hose against the zig-zag serrations to seal the end fitting against the escape of steam, and clamps the rubber hose against the metal liner and the metal liner against the spirals and the inner end portion of the stem outer surface to provide added retention of the metal liner from being pulled off the stem.

  • Patent number: 4583268
Abstract: In order to guarantee the sealing quality of a joining between a pipe socket and a tube by means of a clamp pressing a tube on a pipe wall, where the press-on power to be exercised by the tube clamp will act as uniformly as possible all over the total pipe circumference and cause no damage to the tube, it is suggested that the clamp is an open tube clamp being operative by its inner clamping power over a relatively wide-ranged press-on surface, being moved into its acting position by a tool overcoming the clamping power, and where an almost uniform pressing is provided extending over the total press-on surface (F) by a cross section increasing from the open ends (E1, E2) in direction to the clamping dead center (R).

  • Patent number: 4564222
Abstract: A coupling and method of coupling thin-walled/tubing and the like includes an inner member, an intermediate wedge member and an outer member in the form of a sleeve surrounding the intermediate and inner members with the tubing therebetween. The inner member is provided with a pair of tubing grooves and a seal receiving groove between the two tubing grooves or at least between one groove and the tube receiving end of the coupling. By means of annular ridges on the intermediate wedge member the tubing is forced into the tubing grooves, and by means of an annular ridge on the wedge the tubing is pressed tightly against the seal in the seal receiving groove, thus forming a fluid-tight coupling member.

  • Patent number: 4544186
Abstract: An externally threaded split end fitting having a surface serving as a camming surface for an end-mounted nut. By advancing the nut along the split end of the fitting the camming surface reacting upon the nut causes a transmission of a reactive force through the nut onto the external threads of the split segmented end of the fitting causing in turn a radially inward bending of the jaw-like segments of the split head. The longitudinal axis of the fitting has a passageway for receiving one or more work pieces, whereby the pivoting of the segments clamp the workpiece(s) into the fitting. The fitting is unitary.
