    Abstract: An exhaust gas pressure tube assembly and a method for making the tube are disclosed. The assembly includes a keyed washer having a concave conical opening and an exhaust gas pressure tube having an open end for attachment to the boss. The assembly method includes positioning the washer adjacent the boss attachment open end of the pressure tube such that the concave conical opening of the washer faces the open end. A tool is positioned against a washer side and a mandrel having a conical outer surface is then inserted into the open end, causing the open end to be flared against the opening of the washer. The surface of the concave conical opening of the washer may be either smooth or knurled. If the surface is smooth, the mandrel is retained in its flaring position and a brazing or similar procedure to form a strong and gas-tight seal.

A tapered surface is formed on the inner circumference of a fastening ring, and a ring-shaped retainer is positioned between the tapered surface and a seal member. When the flexible tube is inserted into the retainer, projections in the retainer are pushed open elastically by peak sections of a corrugated tube, and when a peak section has passed, the projections engage with a valley section of the corrugated tube. The joint and flexible tube can be coupled in a one-touch operation, simply by inserting the flexible tube. Moreover, excellent sealing properties and detachment prevention properties are obtained between the joint and the flexible tube.

    Abstract: A connection at which two hoses or similar conduits are coupled includes a male coupling on one of the hoses and a female coupling on the other hose. The male coupling consists of a body that receives the hose and a tapered bushing which threads into the hose and spreads it outwardly into the body. The body has a threaded end section. The female coupling consists of a threaded ring having an inwardly opening groove, a ferrule that receives the hose and has at its one end a flange which fits into the groove of the ring, and a tapered bushing that threads into the hose and expands it against the ferrule. When the hose and bushing are out of the ferrule, the flange of the ferrule will fit into the ring, but when the hose is expanded outwardly by the bushing, the flange of the ferrule is captured in the groove of the ring. The ring threads over the threaded end section of the male coupling and forces the ends of the threaded section and the ferrule together.
