Abstract: A connector for use in securing a length of flexible tubing with another object is set forth. The connector comprises a fitting and a collar. The fitting includes a neck that is adapted to receive the flexible tubing thereon. The neck, in turn, includes an exteriorly disposed barb for engaging the interior walls of the flexible tubing. The collar is adapted to engage the fitting at least about the neck and barb and includes an interiorly disposed flange portion having a contour that is shaped to cooperate with the surfaces of the barb to drive the flexible tubing over the barb and the neck as the collar and fitting are assembled with one another. The shape and contour of the flange portion also cooperates with the surfaces of the barb to provide a compressive force that may be used to provide a seal between the flexible tubing and neck.

  • Patent number: 7455328
Abstract: An annular collet or gripping member radially located within a coupling assembly of the type having a hollow body, nut and an O-ring or seal for connection of a pipe thereto. The collet is axially split, the split defined by first and second generally parallel ends that are of an engageable configuration, typically by one end having a projection and the other end a correspondingly shaped cavity enabling the ends to interlock. In the normal operation of the coupling, the collet exerts a longitudinal force on the O-ring causing a seal. When it experiences an axial force that would normally relatively displace the two ends causing a leak, being engaged to each other this movement is resisted ensuring that the seal is maintained. The present invention also relates to a coupling having such a collet.

Abstract: A sealing device and method for sealing a length of tubing with a fitting is provided, where the sealing device includes at least one sealing surface formed with a plurality of ridges. The ridges include at least one end ridge and at least one internal ridge which are spaced apart by a predetermined distance, and formed with a desired geometry such as U-shaped, V-shaped, or various other shapes and with different sealing faces such as curved or flat. The ridges are spaced apart in a manner to maximize sealing pressure, and produce stress concentrations and localized deformations, in order to create a seal at lower torques or on stiffer tubing or tubing with at least one minor defect such as a dent or weld. The sealing device is particularly useful for sealing an end corrugation of tubing in a fitting used in gas and liquid piping systems.

  • Patent number: 7025384
Abstract: A device for mechanically securing a tubular liner in a pipe having a tubular member and connectors on each end. The connector has a bore with an internal seat that may have grooves and be tapered depending upon the application. The liner extends through the tubular member into the bore. The ends of the liner are radially and plastically deformed into engagement with the seats. An inner ring is positioned inside the liner to retain the end of the liner in engagement with the seat. The inner ring may be held by threads or by radially and plastically deforming it. The connectors are mounted to the tubular member independently of the liner, such as by adhesive.
