    Abstract: A transition coupling for connecting a plastic natural gas supply pipe to a metal service pipe is comprised of substantially plastic components including a tubular non-metallic body and a non-metallic or plastic nut. A plastic nut is threadably connected to the body one at each end thereof for independently compressing seals within the body against the two pipes and separately gripping against the pipes to hold the pipes within the body. At one end of the coupling, a plastic gripper is wedged by the plastic nut to embed in the plastic pipe to anchor the plastic pipe in the coupling. At the other end of the coupling, a metallic gripper is used in conjunction with the other plastic nut to be wedged against and embed in the outside surface of the metal pipe. The metallic gripper is comprised of two segments, the outer surfaces of which are shaped to keep from embedding in the inside surface of the plastic nut and causing the nut to bind on the metallic gripper.

A flexible spring washer encircles the stiffener and contacts the outside end of the gasket. A connecting nut having a frustoconical bore for mating with the outside surface of the grip ring surrounds the stiffener and engages the enlarged bore of the body. The plastic pipe is inserted into the bore and around the stiffener.

The pressure ring combination includes a ring member that is movable between a contracted position and an expanded position, and a keeper member for keeping the ring member in the contracted position until it is desired to expand the ring member. The pressure ring combination can be easily inserted into the interior of the drainage member with a portion of the inverted stack positioned between the pressure ring combination and the interior of the waste pipe or other drainage member while the ring member is in the contracted position. The keeper member can then be removed from the ring member to allow the ring member to expand and to securely seal the portion of the inverted stack to the interior of the waste pipe or other drainage member.

In this manner, the socket is retained to the nipple separate from the seal provided between the nipple, socket and hose and oil cannot leak past the barbs and teeth.

    Abstract: A stab-type coupling apparatus adapted to receive an associated pipe end in a body thereof and prevent its withdrawal therefrom. The coupling apparatus includes an elongated hollow stiffener received in a coupling body recess and providing internal support for the associated pipe end. A retaining ring retained between the body and stiffener has a radially inward extending toothed portion that grippingly engages the external surface of the associated pipe end. A seal means is disposed on an axially inner side of a collet retainer to seal along a peripheral portion of the pipe end. The collet retainer includes a toothed internal surface that selectively engages the pipe end during attempted withdrawal from the coupling body. A generally frustoconical member cams the collet retainer into gripping engagement with the pipe end. A gasket is radially and axially compressed at an outer end of the recess and disposed on an opposite side of the collet retainer from the seal means.

    Abstract: A coupling mechanism for use with flexible hose or tubing in which axial compression forces are applied to the end of the hose or tubing in order to provide the coupling action. The coupling mechanism includes a nipple having a head at the free end thereof surrounded by a collar having an inwardly extending abutment member at the opposite end thereof from the free end of the nipple. The end of the flexible hose or tube is received over the nipple and within the collar with a close fit. Upon axial movement of the collar with respect to the nipple toward the free end thereof, the abutment member on the collar will apply axial compression force to the end of the hose or tubing causing the wall at the end of the hose or tubing to expand into sealing and gripping relation with the nipple and collar. Means for forcing the collar to move axially of the nipple upon rotation of the collar and to selectively maintain the collar at a given point in the axial movement thereof are provided.

A plastic plug member is rotatably positioned in the valve seat and has a flow passage which in the open position of the valve communicates with the inlet and outlet openings. Pipe fittings of the valve body communicate with the valve seat and are aligned with the inlet and outlet openings. Each fitting is coupled to a conduit of a piping system by a nut threaded into the respective fitting to urge a wedge-shaped collar into frictional engagement with the conduit. The nut surrounds the collar which is advanced by the nut into the fitting until a radial shoulder on the nut abuts the end of the fitting so that the end of the nut in the fitting applies a controlled compressive force upon a gasket seal to effect a fluid tight connection of the conduit to the fitting.

    Abstract: A quick connect fitting for air brake tubing consists of a body member with a tubing support therein and a nut threadedly connected to the body. A split ring gripping sleeve having a conical outer surface cooperates with the conical inner surface of the nut to receive and retain inserted tubing. A ring seal is disposed in the body member to provide a primary seal between the body and nut and includes a surface in engagement with the gripping sleeve to maintain alignment of same with the conical surface, limit the inward movement of the sleeve and bias the sleeve toward the conical surface to enhance the grip. In various embodiments of the invention the ring seal provides a primary seal on the O.D. of the tubing or it abuts the end of the inserted tubing, in both instances providing an increased force to return the split ring tight to the conical surface of the nut. An o-ring in the nut provides a seal on the O.D.
