  • Patent number: 10890285
Abstract: A high pressure hose coupler has a tubular connector having internal threads at a distal end for engaging a hose around the hose's external surface. These teeth grip into the hose's outer soft layer, and the hose it typically steel-reinforced. An internal collet fits inside the hose, and engages the connector at a proximal end to be retained in place. A hollow insert has a distal end configured to be inserted within the collet to press the collet radially outwardly so that the hose wall is pressed between the connector and the collet. The insert proximal end is configured to engage the collet at threads on collet internal threads. The hose is gripped very tightly by action of the insert pressing against the tapered collet, in turn against the restraining force of the connector around the end of the hose.

Abstract: A hydraulic connection comprises a connecting nipple, preferably of steel or of another metal, whereby, on said nipple's tube-shaped extension, a hydraulic hose is held by compression by means of a fitting. A swelling element is arranged between the extension and the hydraulic hose, said element being swellable in the hydraulic fluid. If hydraulic fluid were to advance through to the swelling element, said element will swell and block the path to more hydraulic fluid. Furthermore, by swelling, said element deforms the hydraulic hose in radially outward direction. In this region, the hydraulic hose is held by a fitting in the form of a metal sleeve so that said hose may not be displaced. In this manner, the force of pressure on the hydraulic hose is increased in an annular zone. A durable seal is achieved.

Abstract: A device and method for coupling a rigid pipe to a flexible hose. The device for coupling a rigid pipe to a flexible hose is designed for use in low pressure applications whereby fluid communication between the rigid pipe and the flexible hose is prevented. The coupling of the present invention includes a clamping ring. After assembly of the coupling using the method of the present invention, a terminal end of the flexible hose is interposed between the terminal end of the rigid pipe and the clamping ring. Each of the rigid pipe and clamping rings is deformed to define cooperating annular rings, and to deform the flexible hose there between. Deformation of the flexible hose between the rigid pipe and clamping ring annular rings serves to form a seal to prevent fluid communication between the rigid pipe and flexible hose, and further prevents removal of the coupling. • Patent number: 6131265
Abstract: A plastic pipe adaptor (10) includes a length of pipe (12) having a plastic pipe wall (14) with a substantially rigid pipe stiffener (32) disposed inside the pipe and a substantially rigid collar (34) disposed about the pipe exteriorly of the pipe wall (14), the collar having a recess (40) therein. The stiffener (32) and collar (34) are positioned such that a portion (50) of the plastic pipe wall is disposed between the stiffener (32) and the collar recess (40) and at least a portion (52) of the pipe stiffener is deflected outwardly against the pipe wall portion (50) by an amount sufficient to wedge the pipe wall portion (50) into engagement with the collar recess (40). The result is a firm grip to the pipe which allows the collar to serve as an attachment to another member such as a mechanical joint (30). A method of making the adaptor (10) is also described.

  • Patent number: 5794982
Abstract: Methods for installing liners in metal pipes incorporating the embodiments of this invention are disclosed. Liner (30), pulled through the pipe, is cut back to the correct position in socket (22) and pin (36). Socket clamp (32) or pin clamp (42) is placed over extrusion rod (78) of reverse calibration machine (60). Liner clamp mandrel (76) is installed behind the clamp. First hydraulic cylinder (64) and second hydraulic cylinder (66) in reverse calibrator frame (62) are activated to move extrusion rod (78). The tapered surface of liner clamp mandrel (76) comes in contact with the clamp, expanding the clamp walls as the hard tool steel of the mandrel contacts the softer steel of the clamp. Liner clamp mandrel (76) passes fully through the clamp completing the installation. Liner (30) is locked between socket clamp (32) or pin clamp (42) and the inside wall of the calibrated section of socket (22) or pin (36).

  • Patent number: 5671953
Abstract: An end fitting, particularly a pipe towing head, has an expandable element (44; 144) that is surrounded by a skirt (18) of a tubular body (14), so that a pipe end portion can be gripped between them. The element may have pipe gripping ribs which get less aggressive rearwardly, since the element is expandable by a mandrel (45) that leads to the greatest expansion at the rear.

  • Patent number: 5590914
Abstract: A field assembled gas riser includes an adapter having plural inner grooves that receive the outer surface of a plastic gas line as it is plastically deformed by axial insertion of a stiffener into the gas line. The gas line is terminated at a desired location, the adapter slid over the terminated end, and a stiffener manually inserted into the gas line. Continued axial advancement of the stiffener acts as a mandrel to plastically deform the gas line into the grooves and provide a secure, sealed arrangement.
