  • Patent number: 9816023
Abstract: A subterranean ground heat exchange system, a method of installation, and a grout composition therefor. The grout composition is a pumpable slurry formed of from about 70 to about 85 parts by weight natural flake graphite and from about 30 to about 15 parts by weight bentonite. The solids content of the pumpable grout slurry is preferably at least 35% by weight and is more preferably at least 40% by weight. The ground exchange apparatus preferably utilizes an improved supply and return header comprised of supply and return ports which are provided through the vertically extending outer wall of a header housing. The header also includes an interior supply conduit which extends from the supply port into the interior of the header housing and includes a bend positioned in the interior of the housing for directing the heat transfer fluid downwardly.

  • Patent number: 8544505
Abstract: A pre-stressed concrete pipe is taught that incorporates a cylinder (20), an annular ring (34) and an annular offset member (40) welded together. A seal band (44) stretches over the annular offset member and the assembled annular ring is welded within a first end (22) of the metallic cylinder. A strip of pressure sensitive tape (54) seals the internal interface. An O-ring (52) is positioned around the annular ring during joint attachment of a pipeline. The cylinder second end (24) utilizes a hat member (56) and a resilient seal band (44a) stretched over the hat member with the assembled hat member welded within the second end of the cylinder. A strip of pressure sensitive tape (54) seals this interface. A film layer of release agent (64) is adhered to the inside of the metallic cylinder where a concrete tube (68) is cast within the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 8419075
Abstract: An end fitting (31) is formed at the patient end of an inner cannula (3) for a tracheostomy tube (1) by punching small holes (33) close to one end (34) of an ePTFE shaft (30). The end is then swaged to form an expanded region (30?) and a preformed tubular insert (40) of a thermoplastic material is inserted to cover the holes (33) on the inside. An outer part (46) of the same thermoplastic material is then overmolded on the outside of the shaft 30 so that its material (47) flows through the holes (33) and bonds with the inner insert (40), thereby securing the inner and outer parts together around the end of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 8056935
Abstract: An interface is provided between a stiff piece (1) and a composite material (2), the composite material (2) including fibres (3), the stiff piece (1) including two or more vanes (4a, 4b, . . . ) protruding from a surface of the stiff piece (1). The vanes (4) include two or more lateral surfaces (41, 42, 43, 44), in which one or more fibres (3) of the composite material (2) are arranged for passing through one or more funnel-shaped throats (45) formed between lateral surfaces (41a, 43a, 41b, 43b, . . . ) of adjacent vanes (4a, 4b, . . . ). A fixing matrix material (7) is arranged around the one or more fibres (3), at least in or near the funnel-shaped throats (45). The vanes (4) are arranged for exerting counteracting transversal and axial forces on the fibres (3) and the fixing matrix material (7) when the interface is subject to forces.

  • Patent number: 8034211
Abstract: It is the object of the present invention a thermoplastic element for the protection against corrosion in the thermofused splicing of a thermoplastic tube to a thermoplastic connection, which element has the shape of a fully thermoplastic tubular sleeve, able to be introduced into a socket mouth formed by the expansion of the tube end, said splice element bearing only one internal diameter and two external diameters which define a cylindrical external portion of larger diameter and a tubular projection which diameter is smaller than the former, and which is introduced into the thermoplastic tube, a lateral wall of the external portion defining a front butt of said thermoplastic element against the end of the thermoplastic tube. Said splicing element also exhibits an auxiliary ring which operates as a reference point for the assembly thereof.

  • Patent number: 7303213
Abstract: A pipe structure comprising a length of a flexible pipe connected to an end fitting, the flexible pipe comprising an armour layer and an underlying pipe layer the armour layer, the underlying pipe layer having an outer surface around which armouring wires of an armouring layer are helically wound. The pipe structure provides a coupling between a flexible pipe comprising armouring wires and an end fitting, the coupling exerting a relatively low bending or flexure strain on the wires during normal operation of the flexible pipe. The transition path of an armouring wire between the flexible pipe and the end fitting comprises a straight-line-section between a wire-pipe-exit-point where the wire extends away from its underlying pipe layer and a straight-line-end-point on a support unit of the end fitting where the armouring wire in question has its first tangential point of contact.

  • Patent number: 7083204
Abstract: A coupling for joining metal pipes or pipe sections end-to-end to form a pipe assembly. A plastic cuff is formed on one of the pipe ends and a mating, second plastic cuff is formed on the other pipe end. In one embodiment, a wire hoop is mounted over each pipe end, the hoops are rotatable around the associated pipe ends to align the hoops, and bolt assemblies spanning the two hoops are used to tighten the hoops axially, to thereby clamp the pipe ends and compress the cuffs between the pipe ends and provide a leak-proof joint. The cuffs are selected from configurations including tongue-and-groove and bell-and-spigot. The cuffs can be formed on the pipe ends in the shop, then the pre-cuffed pipe sections can be readily assembled into stable, leak-proof, corrosion-resistant lengths of pipe in the field.

  • Patent number: 6508275
Abstract: A molded fuel filler pipe for use in automobiles, in particular cars, comprises a one-piece structure which is blow molded. The conduit produced in the blow mold has a smooth edged tubular portion and a bellows portion which is molded at the same time. By deforming the bellows portion, flexibility in the relative location of the two ends of the conduit is provided. This eliminates taking two separate pieces and joining those pieces which may give rise to fuel vapour permeation through the joints.
