  • Patent number: 7614667
Abstract: An external pipe joint between a pin section (30) and a box section (40) is disclosed. The end of the pin and box sections have complementary screw-threaded portions, adapted to interengage along the greater part of the axial length thereof, the threads being inclined in the same direction and at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the joint. The box section extends at least to a stop shoulder (44) having a frusto-conical head portion which is positioned adjacent a complementary stop shoulder recess (36) on the pin section. In order to sealingly receive the frusto-conical head portion, the complementary stop shoulder recess (36) comprises a cone receiver having a conical cross-section. An annular groove (45) intermediate the threaded portion and the stop shoulder of the box section is included.

Abstract: A riser connector uses a box and upset pin connector threadform design having S-shaped load flanks that provide a variable load angles depending on the radial position along the engaged teeth. This design promotes a load path that changes with position along the axial length of the engaged thread, as well as increasing or decreasing external loads on the connector. The connector also varies radial distention of the pin from the box in a manner that is different from one thread to the next. The threadform uses a combination of thread cuts that vary in shape, pitch, and/or thread cone angle to provide load and stab flanks, as well as a load path, that vary from one axial end of the engaged thread to the other.

  • Patent number: 7588269
Abstract: A thread form is shown which is used to make a threaded pipe connection capable of being screwed together and subsequently unscrewed. A pin is provided having external threads with stab flanks and load flanks and flat crests and roots for mating with the mating internal threads of a box to make up a pipe connection. The stab flanks and load flanks form complex geometric profiles which in one version form an inclined Z-shape in profile and in another version form a reverse inclined Z-shape profile. Each profile includes at least three separate facets with the facets on the stab flank and the facets on the load flank both leaning in the same direction with respect to the longitudinal axis of the pipe, when viewed in profile.

  • Patent number: 7585002
Abstract: An expandable tubular pin and box connection is described having a feature of trapping the pin nose after preferably deforming the pin nose plastically in an outward direction away from the longitudinal axis of the connection. The box end is held away from the pin wall before expansion so that its tendency to curl inwardly upon expansion causes it to bend against the pin wall for sealing with it. The thread profile is also optimized to reduce flank separation as a result of expansion.

  • Patent number: 7581766
Abstract: The invention relates to a high-performance threaded tubular joint comprising a first, male tubular element (11) and a second, female tubular element (12) made up together by screwing. One of the tubular elements (11; 12) has a non-threaded lip (38; 5) extending between its thread and its free end and having a sealing surface (40; 7) in sealing-tight contact with the opposite surface (41; 8) of the other element after screwing together, diametric expansion, and then generation of springback forces of the first and second tubular elements. The joint has a tubular sleeve (34; 36) threaded over the second element (12) before screwing together and positioned to extend axially substantially opposite to the lip (3; 5) and, after diametric expansion, generating a springback force which is added to that of the second element in order to counteract the springback force of the first element, thus effecting at least the shrink-fitting of the tubular sleeve over the second element.

  • Publication number: 20090200798
Abstract: A tubular threaded joint which has excellent resistance to compression and which permits easy tightening operation in the field in a vertical state comprises a pin having a male threaded zone and a box having a female threaded zone. The pin or the box has an end shoulder surface on its end, and the other member has a shoulder surface which abuts against the end shoulder surface. The screw threads of the male threaded zone and the female threaded zone are trapezoidal threads having a crest, a load flank, and a stabbing flank. The lip length, which is the distance in the axial direction of a member having an end shoulder surface between the end shoulder surface and the closest engaged thread to that surface, is at least 140 times the stabbing flank clearance, which is the distance in the axial direction between the stabbing flanks of the male thread and the female thread when the load flanks of the male and female threads contact each other. The stabbing flank of the male thread is preferably chamfered.

  • Patent number: 7513534
Abstract: A fatigue-resistant threaded element for a threaded tubular connection. A portion of threads of the threaded element have a helical groove opening into the threaded crest. A groove is formed in all or a portion of the threads of one or both end zones, namely the first engaged thread zone and the last engaged thread zone, and it is optionally formed in the threads of the medial thread zone. The groove reduces stiffness of threads carrying a groove in the end zone or zones compared with the stiffness of the threads in the medial thread zone. The threaded tubular connection obtained after making up the threaded element with a mating threaded element is much more resistant to cyclic tensile stress and/or axial compressive stresses and/or flexion stresses.

  • Patent number: 7510219
Abstract: An interconnection for oil field tubular goods operates in a self sealing manner in response to internal pressures which might otherwise cause leakage through couplings or joints. Each coupling sleeve includes an interior fulcrum ring fitted between the nose ends of the tubing or casing, and centrally engaging a fulcrum seating zone centered in the sleeve. Internal pressures tend to bend the ends of the fulcrum ring outwardly toward clearance or relief spans on each side of the fulcrum zone. This deflection increases the contact force and enhances the metal-to-metal seal between the end faces of the fulcrum ring and the pin end faces.
