Double Wedge Surfaces Patents (Class 285/341)
  • Patent number: 4735445
Abstract: The invention relates to a flange connection for two components, in particular for containers, pipes or the like, with each of the two components having a flange which can be fastened against one another by fastening means and enclose between them a sealing body gripping over the connecting joint between the two components. Each flange, in its end face facing toward the connecting joint, has an annular sealing chamber which widens conically toward the connecting joint and into which a sealing body of annular configuration is positioned. The flanges, when fastened, bear against one another at the end face and together form a sealing chamber which is approximately triangular in cross-section and is virtually completely filled by the sealing body deformed by the fastening.

  • Patent number: 4586731
Abstract: A tube fitting with a one-piece ferrule adapted to shear during assembly into two cutting rings for serial setting of the cutting edges thereof into the tube surface. The rear cutting ring is deformed and guided by the previously set front cutting ring at a preferred cutting angle. Engagement of abutment surfaces on the cutting rings determines a final position for the rings and provides a signal to the assembler that the joint is completed. The undeformed ferrule includes a conical front cutting ring having a cutting edge of one diameter, a cylindrical rear ring having a cutting edge of larger diameter, an external annular groove and an enlarged bore therebelow which in part forms the rear cutting ring and controls deformation thereof. • Patent number: 4538053
Abstract: Termination apparatus for elongate heaters which have an outer metal sheath and which are designed for use in hazardous environments. The apparatus comprises a junction box within which the heater is terminated and which has an entry port through which the heater enters the junction box. Secured to the entry port is a connection member comprising first and second compression members which surround a heater passing through the entry port and which define between them a chamber. Within the chamber is a grommet which is composed of lead or another deformable metal. The compression members can be drawn together, thus reducing the size of the chamber between them and deforming the grommet into close conformity with the metal sheath of the heater. • Patent number: 4483555
Abstract: A pipe coupling is disclosed which is capable of being periodically coupled and uncoupled between two lengths of pipe. The pipe coupling includes a first and a second union which are fixed between an intervening length of pipe such that the intervening length of pipe does not have to be of a precision length. The outer periphery of one end of the pipe contains serrations and this end is fixed to the first union by a serrated compression ring and a backnut. By tightening the backnut onto the first union, the compression ring firmly engages the serrations on the pipe and prevents axial movement thereof. The second union includes a non-binding compression ring and a backnut as well as having an internal elongated bore of approximately the same diameter as the outer diameter of the pipe. As the backnut is tightened onto the second union, the compression ring is squeezed about the outer periphery of the pipe and forms a seal therewith.

The seal assembly includes a lead ferrule having a frusto-conical first surface adapted to engage a body member circular shoulder edge, and having a frusto-conical second surface; an intermediate follower having one circular edge adapted to engage the lead ferrule second surface; a rear ferrule having a frusto-conical third surface adapted to engage another circular edge of the intermediate follower; and a compression cap adapted to exert a longitudinal force on the rear ferrule. When the compression cap is tightened, the seal assembly sequentially provides three longitudinally-spaced seal zones, and a seal between the body member and the object.

  • Patent number: 3986736
Abstract: A pipe joint assembly comprising, in combination, a pipe to be coupled having at a predetermined outer position spaced from its end a rolled circular groove of a preselected depth, said groove having a semicircular cross-section, a sleeve and a fastener mounted on said pipe, a seamless circular packing disposed in said groove, said packing having a circular cross-section, said sleeve having a rear end face of a given circular width which is adapted to make face-to-face contact with said packing, a body having a tapered inner surface, the diameter of which decreases in the rearward direction, said body receiving the end portion of the pipe, the forward or entrance diameter of said tapered inner surface being slightly larger than the outer diameter of said sleeve, said body and said fastener provided with means for connecting with each other, whereby, when said fastener is fastened on said body, said sleeve is reduced by the tapered inner surface of said body to securely contact said pipe and the rear end face

  • Patent number: 3986737
Abstract: An adapter for releasably coupling two tubular elements comprises a socket, a sleeve nut threadedly engaging the socket and an elastically deformable sleeve inserted in the sleeve nut. The socket consists of a smaller diameter and a larger diameter part, and the sleeve nut has an inner thread in threaded engagement with an outer thread on the larger diameter socket part. The axial length of the sleeve nut exceeds that of the larger diameter socket part, the inner thread is arranged at one sleeve nut end and an inwardly extending flange is at the opposite sleeve nut end. The sleeve is inserted in the sleeve nut between axially spaced shoulders formed by the flange and the larger diameter socket part. The outer diameter of the sleeve is slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the sleeve nut, the periphery of the sleeve defines a circumferentially extending trough-shaped recess, and the sleeve has a cylindrical inner wall.

  • Patent number: 3973792
Abstract: In a connecting device for connecting chromatographic separating columns of glass to terminal fittings on a chromatographic apparatus, each end of the column is surrounded by a metallic sleeve. A sleeve made of synthetic plastic material, which is of substantially stable shape at least up to a temperature of 350.degree. centigrade even if subjected to pressure, is interposed between said end and said metallic sleeve. A preferred material is polyimide. The plastic sleeve has at least one conical end face and is held in sealing engagement with the end of the separating column, on one hand, and with the metallic sleeve, on the other hand, by a sleeve shaped thrust member, which is axially movable relative to the metallic sleeve to exert an axial force on said plastic sleeve. A radial sealing force is exerted on the snthetic plastic sleeve through its conical end face by an abutting complementary conical surface.
