Abstract: A plumbing fitting for coupling a water supply line to a second plumbing fitting includes a polymeric tailpiece having one end for coupling to a conduit and an opposite end with an outwardly extending annular flange having an annular face surface. A circular recess is formed in the face surface for receiving a seal. A nut is positioned over the tailpiece and has an inwardly extending annular rim engaging a side of the flange opposite the face surface. The nut is formed of a polymeric material having internal threads and integrally includes a metal insert extending in concentric spaced relationship to the threads of the nut. The insert includes an end which is threaded and forms a lead-in thread that is coaxial with the threads of the nut.

Abstract: A union coupling having a removable screen is disclosed. The union coupling includes a pipe joint, a fitting that receives the screen, and a collar which clamps the fitting to the pipe joint. In one form, the fitting has an inner surface that defines a passage through the fitting and a pocket formed in the inner surface. The screen has a transverse extension that is received at least in part in the pocket with engagement of the transverse extension and pocket restricting passage of the screen past a predetermined position in the passage. A union coupling having a fitting comprising a fitting body with an outward flange and a shoulder element with an outward flange is also provided. The shoulder element is connected to the fitting body to captivate a collar between the outward flanges of the fitting so that the collar does not become separated from the fitting body. A method of assembling a union coupling is also provided.

Abstract: Described is a sealing system for use at high pressure. End-face seals minimize the sealing radius and therefore allow various fittings—including known ferrule fittings—to be used in high-pressure systems. End-face seals at such high pressure may require smooth surfaces. In order to reduce cost, an end-face preparation tool forges a dimple into the end face to mechanically deform and smooth the surface.

  • Patent number: 8366155
Abstract: A coupler for use in sealing a joint between two pipes. The coupler is comprised primarily of two center sections and two end caps. The two center sections are engagable with one another and the two end caps are engagable with the center sections. Gasket rings create seals between the two center sections as well as between the two center sections and the cap rings. The center sections are dimensioned to create a volume of space within the coupler, thus permitting the coupler to accommodate offset joints. The gasket rings between the cap rings and the center sections can be longitudinally spaced apart, minimizing the angular deflection of the coupler with respect to the pipes when the pipe joint is offset. The center sections and end caps can be lockably engaged.
