  • Patent number: 4094537
Abstract: Ground level gas meter risers for plastic service lines in which the riser is a one-piece assembly for transition from underground plastic to above ground steel gas service lines. The riser assembly includes a mounting section of pipe connected to a plastic transition fitting. The plastic fitting in turn receives the plastic tube gas carrier. A steel casing or jacket extends from the plastic fitting around the plastic gas carrier tube for a predetermined distance to a sealing device. An upper protective steel casing interconnects the mounting pipe and the upper end of the lower protective casing. A relatively thin epoxy or plastic coating extends from under the seal device at the lower end of the riser to above the upper casing.

  • Patent number: 4088414
Abstract: A coupling for joining sections of tubular pipe together end to end into a continuous length includes a tubular connector having an outside diameter substantially equal to the inside diameter of the pipe and having a protruding annular shoulder of arcuate cross section located intermediate its ends. The adjacent ends of the pipes are placed over opposite ends of the connector and pressed together, flaring their terminal portions outwardly where they abut, substantially coplanar with the diametric center of the shoulder, frictionally joining both sections of pipe to the connector. A metallic colored, silicone sealant is coated over the confronting raw ends of the pipes to provide a low maintenance seal which protects the joint from deterioration.

  • Patent number: 4076281
Abstract: An internally threaded mechanical-joint bell fitting for cast iron pipe is adapted to be screwed onto an externally threaded end of a plain pipe section. The fitting has an integral bolting flange circumscribing the mouth of the bell and preferably includes a circumferential water stop flange at the smaller threaded end of the fitting. The fitting also includes mounting pads at the threaded end for attaching a free-standing support structure. The support structure consists of a pair of angle columns bolted at their upper ends to the mounting pads of the bell fitting and bolted at their lower ends to brackets that are adapted in turn to be bolted to studs preset in poured concrete footings for a tank or building wall. The bracket feet are bifurcated so that each bracket can bridge a water stop barrier set into the top surface of the wall fitting.

  • Patent number: 3993334
Abstract: A jointing piece for sealingly connecting pipes, said piece having at either end elastic sealing means arranged in their operational position to engage sealingly with the inside of the respective connecting pipe end. In the area adjacent either jointing piece end there is provided a sealing means comprising two outwardly open mutually separated channels running circumferentially side by side and being formed in the jointing piece wall and an elastic sealing ring placed therein. Before the jointing piece end is inserted into the respective pipe end, said ring is placed in the channel nearest the end of the pipe jointing piece, and during insertion the ring is caused, by contact with and relative movement between the jointing piece and pipe, to roll over to and down into the posterior second channel where the ring assumes its operational sealing position.

  • Patent number: 3993332
Abstract: The specification discloses a pipe joint which utilizes a spherically tapered coupling that mates spherically tapered pipe ends. Because of the spherical tapers, O-ring seals contained in the coupler do not engage the pipe ends until the pipe ends and coupling are seated to form the pipe joint. In one embodiment, a plastic ring or cap is made integral with each pipe end and acts as a sliding surface that allows ready joining of the pipe ends with the coupler.

  • Patent number: 3974835
Abstract: An apparatus for intestinal anastomosis is formed from a pair of anastomotic ring members, each of which is secured to the free end of two tubular tissue members to be anastomosed, and a coupling tube of special design adapted to join each ring member and its associated attached tissue member to the other ring member and attached tissue member. A method for performing intestinal anastomotic surgery utilizing the apparatus above wherein each tubular tissue member end is pulled over the outside and through the inside of one of the ring members and thereby inverted as it is secured to fenestrated projections on the ring member.

  • Patent number: 3961814
Abstract: An improved heat fused pipe assembly joint is provided using an internally positioned fitting having an annular insert portion substantially the same diameter as the internal diameter of the pipe section to be joined and a shoulder portion having a larger diameter. The pipe section is joined to the fitting by heating the pipe end sufficiently to soften it, heating the insert portion of the fitting so as to soften its exterior wall, inserting the fitting so that the end edge of the pipe section substantially abuts the shoulder portion of the fitting and crimping to cause fusion of the pipe to the fitting. For additional strength, the fused pipe joint assembly may be provided with an externally positioned sleeve.

  • Patent number: 3960395
Abstract: An expansion clamp for use with a resilient tubular gasket to provide a leakproof joint in a piping system including a substantially C-shaped circumferentially-extending member having end portions cooperating with one another and further including means for locking the end portions with respect to each other so as to maintain the expansion clamp, the gasket, the inner circumferential surface of the pipe in mutual compressive relation. One end of the C-shaped member is also provided with means to prevent axial and radial displacement of the other end portion.

  • Patent number: 3955834
Abstract: A duct-connecting joint of tubular cylindrical form adapted to be telescopically engaged within the free end of a cylindrical duct having an L-shaped sealing element extending about its circumference with a base portion flush against the cylindrical wall of the connecting body and a radial flange portion biased to extend at an angle greater than 90.degree. to the base portion. The base portion is mounted within an inset zone of the connecting body so that the connecting body itself provides cylindrical guide portions on opposite sides of the sealing flange which may engage against the interior cylindrical surface of the duct to prevent destruction of the flange. Several methods are shown for fabricating the connecting body to insure that the flange is biased outward to rest at an angle of greater than 90.degree. with the base.

  • Patent number: 3936079
Abstract: A coupling unit insertable between a first and a second pipeline, flexible or hose pipe or the like. Said coupling unit allows relative movement between the pipelines and comprises an outer part or conduit member serving as a muff and attachable to the first pipeline. A suitably tubular shaped inner part or conduit member is attachable at its one end, attachable to the second pipeline and at its other end carries a first surface, which by coaction with a second surface inside the outer part can limit a separating movement of the parts. A sealing device is arranged to prevent the medium in the pipeline from leaking between the parts. The sealing device comprises first sealing means coming into action when the inner part at said surfaces is pressed towards the outer part at a given pressure in the medium. The sealing device further includes a second sealing means placed behind the first sealing means.
