Publication number: 20040227346Abstract: A fluid conduit system that employs fittings having ends with a structural portion and a seal portion. The ends of the fittings are inserted into a tube, which may be a hard, i.e., rigid, or soft, i.e., flexible, tube. The seal portion sealingly engages the inner diameter of the tube upon its insertion into the tube. The tube is deformed to prevent the fitting from being withdrawn from the tube; the portion of the tube in the immediate vicinity of each seal that forms the seal portion is not deformed. A method for forming a fluid conduit system is also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2003Publication date: November 18, 2004Inventors: Tommy L. Jamison, H. Glenn Dennis, Kevin Gay

Patent number: 6742585Abstract: A device for sealing off an opening through the wall of a well tubular, which device comprises a tubular spacer having an outer diameter allowing the spacer to be arranged in the well tubular, a first seal collar assembly and a second seal collar assembly arranged opposite ends of the tubular spacer, each seal collar assembly comprising an activator ring and an annular seal collar, the activator rings being interconnected by a cylindrical system of shape memory alloy which system contracts when the temperature of the cylindrical system reaches the transition temperature of the shape memory alloy, and wherein each annular seal collar is arranged so as to be compressed against the inner surface of the well tubular upon contraction of the cylindrical system of shape memory alloy.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2002Date of Patent: June 1, 2004Assignee: Shell Oil CompanyInventors: Stephen Richard Braithwaite, Wilhelmus Hubertus Paulus Maria Heijnen, Pieter Karel Anton Kapteijn

Patent number: 6637110Abstract: For a pipe joining method using shape memory alloy capable of preventing a shape memory capacity loss due to a pipe's tolerance, a shape memory alloy joint having an inner diameter greater/less than an outer diameter of pipes to be joined is installed at the outer/inner circumference of a pipe joining portion, and the pipes and the shape memory alloy joint are simultaneously enlarged/reduced. In addition, a general metal joint having an inner diameter greater/less than an outer diameter of shape memory alloy pipes to be joined is installed at the outer/inner circumference of a shape memory alloy pipe joining portion, and the shape memory alloy pipes and the general metal joint are simultaneously enlarged/reduced.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2002Date of Patent: October 28, 2003Assignee: Korea Institute of Science and TechnologyInventor: Kwang-Koo Jee

Patent number: 6513814Abstract: A connecting assembly is disclosed having a first component defining an opening, a second component adapted to be retained together with the first component and a connector component made of a superelastic alloy. Relative motion between at least two of the components causes a super-elastic activation of the connector wherein the activation simultaneously retains the components together with the connector interposed jointly therebetween. Preferably the connector component is pre-assembled to one of the first and second components. More preferably, the first component is pre-assembled with the connector and the second component is moved relative to the pre-assembled components to activate the superelastic alloy of the connector. Alternatively, the second component is pre-assembled with the connector and the first component is moved relative to the pre-assembled components to activate the superelastic alloy of the connector.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2001Date of Patent: February 4, 2003Inventor: Patrick Michel White
