  • Patent number: 8226126
Abstract: A mixing assembly includes a coupler with a temporary seal that is connected to a first container containing mix ingredients. An internally and externally threaded insert is threadedly mated with the internally threaded coupler in an initial position short of breaching the temporary seal. A second container is screwed into the internally threaded insert. Sealing relationships are formed between the coupler and the insert, and between the insert and the received second container. Once the second container is secured to the insert, the coupler is screwed downwardly toward the insert to cause the insert to threadedly advance toward and eventually breach the temporary seal to enable contents of the first container to mix with that of the second container.

Abstract: A coupling assembly (100) is provided having a first member (110) and a second member (120). The first member is able to be coupled to the second member by relative movement along a coupling axis. In use, a tension component (140) carries the axial tensile load of the coupling assembly. In order to decouple the coupling without removing the tension component (140), it is necessary to apply sufficient tensile force to fracture the tension component. Thus the tension component is designed to fracture in to two parts along a single fracture (142). Advantageously, because only a single tensile component is used, the precision in the set force necessary to decouple the two parts is improved. The coupling assembly is particularly suitable to joining two part of an oil pipeline in order to provide a safety, breakout function.

Abstract: Devices and methods for releasably securing components of a device having a sliding sleeve arrangement to prevent premature actuation due to vibration. In a currently preferred embodiment, standard elastomeric O-rings are used as shear members. The O-ring shear members reside within spaces formed between two slidable sleeve members. The O-rings are sheared cross-sectionally to allow the sleeve members to move axially with respect to one another. An exemplary coiled tubing shear release joint is described that incorporates a shear disconnect assembly which uses elastomeric O-rings as shear members. Multiple O-ring seals can be used as shear members to increase the shear value of the device. The use of O-rings as shear members helps prevent premature sliding of sleeve components in response to high vibration. Because the O-rings are resilient, they absorb vibration and do not shear during vibration, the connection between the two sleeve components will not be released prematurely.

When the ring member 20, the sleeve member 30, and the joint body 11 are assembled, the ring member 20 and the sleeve member 30 resist detachment from the assembled pipe joint 10.

  • Patent number: 7108288
Abstract: A tube fitting for a tube end has a female threaded member that cooperates with a male threaded member. The female member includes a tube gripping device in the form of a gripping ring or ferrule that is attached to the female member by a fungible web. Upon a partial pull-up the female engages a camming surface on the male threaded member and breaks off or separates from the female threaded member to become a separate piece so that the fitting then functions as a single ferrule tube fitting. Additional features include a steep camming angle on the camming surface to cause the ferrule to grip the tube end with a bite-type action and to form a primary seal between the camming surface and a front end of the separated ferrule. The ferrule front end, and optionally the entire female threaded member including the initially integral tube gripping device, are hardened to be at least about 3.3 times harder than the material of the tube end.

Abstract: A plastic barb clamp provides leakproof connection of a flexible tube in a barb fitting. The barb clamp includes a collet and a sleeve. The barb clamp is configured to fit snugly within the tube. The collet is slid over the tube. Annular retainers on the interior surface of the collet fit tightly around the tube and under an expanded portion of the barb fitting. The sleeve is then slid over the collet. As the sleeve moves over the collet, tangs on the collet are pushed radially inwardly into the tube and barb fitting. The exterior surface of the collet has radial projections or expanded diameter portions for locking with the sleeve. The sleeve has an annular projection or a reduced diameter portion on the interior surface of the sleeve to correspond to the exterior surface of the collet to provide a secure lock between the collet and sleeve.
