Abstract: A pipe coupling is disclosed which comprises a plug (14) and a socket (12). When the plug is inserted into the socket, the plug first urges sleeve actuators (28) radially outward to axially move a sleeve (22) and, thereafter, urges locking elements (20) radially outward to move the sleeve further. Abstract: A socket of a fluid coupling device includes a housing with a cavity centered on an axis. A pawl, attached to the housing, is pivotable about a pivot location relative to the housing, and has a catch section located axially outward from the pivot location. A spring biases the catch section radially inward. A plug is configured to move axially into the cavity while sliding against the catch section to move the catch section radially outward, against bias of the spring, out of the way of the plug. After an axially-outwardly facing catch surface of the plug passes the catch section, the catch section can pivot radially inward and abut the plug catch surface to capture the plug in the socket.

  • Patent number: 7021669
Abstract: A coupling part for a fluid coupling device, especially a hose coupling, which has a looking device switchable between two positions. The locking device has locking elements mounted on a base body, and a socket-shaped actuating element that interacts with the locking elements. The coupling part is switchable between a retaining and releasing positions by an axial releasing movement of the actuating element. In the retaining position, the locking elements hold the counterpart of the coupling, e.g. a hose stem, to prevents it from being pulled out and, in the releasing position, the locking elements release the same in order to disengage the coupling. The actuating element can be moved from the retaining position into a locking position, prohibiting a releasing movement, by rotating the actuating element in a limited manner around the longitudinal axis of the coupling. As a result, the coupling is prevented from being unintentionally disengaged.

  • Patent number: 6155607
Abstract: A quick coupler for a first tube with a plug end and a second tube with a socket end, the first tube including a bead formed proximate the distal end of the tube and a circumferential groove between the bead and the distal end. A first O-ring is disposed in the groove, and a second O-ring is received about the first tube adjacent the forward end of the bead. The plug end of the tube is received within the socket of the second pipe and a collet and shell retain the pipes together. The collet includes a cylindrical sidewall with a series of resilient segmented fingers. Each of the fingers has a radially inward directed tab at its distal end. The collet is slid along the first tube until an annular endwall on the collet abuts the bead, with the fingers resiliently outwardly deflecting to surround the socket of the second tube and retain the first tube to the second tube. The shell is then slid over the collet and provides an inward force on the collet to draw the tubes together.

  • Patent number: 6131953
Abstract: A coiled tubing drilling hydraulic disconnect for use in disconnecting a tool from a length of tubing or other tool string. The apparatus has an upper housing and a lower housing with a splined ring threadingly engaged with the lower housing. A spline in the splined ring engages a spline on the upper housing so that torque may be transmitted therebetween. Lugs are disposed through windows in the lower housing below the splines, and a bushing is disposed between the splined ring and the lugs. Relative rotation between the upper and lower housings causes the splined ring to tighten against the bushing and lugs, thereby eliminating play therebetween. A lug prop disposed in the upper housing may be hydraulically actuated so that the lugs may move to a disconnect position, thereby releasing the upper housing from the lower housing. Because the windows are disposed below the splines, no torque or bending are applied to the windows, and the windows and lugs are shaped to minimize stress concentrations.
