  • Patent number: 5899507
Abstract: A collet-type pipe coupling of simplified construction includes three main flange parts and a grip structure. The main flange parts are machined or otherwise formed with plain shapes. One flange is welded to an associated length of pipe or other body and all of the flanges are assembled over a separate length of pipe. A first set of bolts is tightened to compress a packing carried in the welded flange with an intermediate flange. A second set of bolts draws a flange collar towards the intermediate flange to constrict the grip structure radially into locking engagement with the separate length of pipe to complete a coupling installation.

Abstract: A new type of instant scratch-off lottery game combining the advantages of the conventional lottery, which allows the player to choose his own selected numbers from a set of numbers, and the advantage of the instant scratch-off lottery tickets by enabling the player to immediately learn if he is a winner or a looser. The player is instructed to pick his numbers from a set of numbers. Each number in this set is represented by a a small box overprinted with a security bar-code readable to conventional scanner. The scanner transfer the readable data and the serial number of the ticket to a central computer in the lottery agency to verify the winning status. The player is able to learn immediately if he is a winner by revealing a winning symbol hidden under the scratch-off material and the overprinted security code of the picked numbers.

  • Patent number: 5797603
Abstract: The present invention relates mainly to a sealing ring and to a method of mounting it in a groove. According to the present invention, the sealing ring is twisted before being mounted in the groove so that the reaction forces retain it therein. The retention capabilities of the present invention is improved for sealing rings of a section that includes a projection directed towards a wall of the groove that provides radial support. The present invention applies more particularly to the mechanical, motor vehicle, and aircraft industries. The sealing ring of the present invention can be used, in particular, in association with the manifolds of turbocompressors, and with air inlet and outlet manifolds, in particular those made of plastics materials, as used in the motor vehicle industry.

  • Patent number: 5718265
Abstract: A cap and shield assembly for a fluid conduit coupler has a shield and a cap hingedly connected to the shield with a shaft having a cross-pin extending therethrough. A cam bushing in the bore of the shield has a cam surface which coacts with the cross-pin to provide a positive closed position for the cap relative to the shield. Preferably, the cam bushing also provides a positive open position. The cap and shield assembly is particularly advantageous for couplers having a dry-break interface because the cap is readily moved between open and closed positions and operators will be more inclined to use the cap after fluid transfer. Shrouds on the cap and the shield coact to protect the coupler interface when the cap is in the closed position thereby protecting the dry-break interface from contamination by road and environmental debris. This is particularly advantageous compared to the dust cap of the prior art which tends not to be used for its intended purpose of protecting the fluid conduit coupler.

Abstract: A pair of flanges are fixed to a pipe end of a port of a plasma vacuum vessel and another pipe end to be connected thereto. These flanges each have a ring-shaped knife edge. A copper gasket is interposed between the respective knife edges of the two flanges. A predetermined number of bolts are tightened to fix the flanges to each other. As a result, the knife edges bite into the copper gasket, and a linear sealing load from the knife edges acts on the gasket, thereby sealing and isolating the space inside the port from the outside. The number n of bolts are given by3(B+28)/65-0.ltoreq.n.ltoreq.3(B+28)/65+0.02B,and the flange thickness t is given by ##EQU1## where B is the diameter of a circle passing through the respective central axes of the n number of bolts. Thus, the bolt number and the flange thickness are reduced without lowering the sealing performance.

  • Patent number: 4951326
Abstract: A retaining ring of an eyeball return fitting of the type used in swimming pools and spas is provided with a releaseable or breakaway cover cap. The cap closes the end of the return fitting during construction. This permits the finish work for the cement and plaster stages of the pool construction to be effected without the danger of cement or plaster getting into the fitting during construction. After construction has been completed, the cap is released and drops away, carrying with it any cement or plaster which may have hardened on it during construction.

  • Patent number: 4922951
Abstract: A service tee comprises a tubular T-piece 1 having a through-portion 2 with a flexible lower end 6 for connection to a gas or water main 70 by way of a hole in the wall of the main and a side branch portion 3 for connection to a service pipe. The end 6 of the through-portion 2 is adapted for initial insertion into the hole in the wall of the main 70 and then for subsequent radial outward expansion so that its surface sealingly engages with the edge of the hole. An expander 4 is provided for location within the end 6 of the through-portion 2 and is adapted in a first position to permit initial insertion of the end of the through-portion into the hole and on movement to a second position to cause expansion of the end 6 into engagement with the edge of the hole.

  • Patent number: 4919456
Abstract: Disclosed is a pipe union having a reliable metal ring seal and a resilient seal. The resilient seal is on the pin portion of the union, which has an internal seal surface. The box portion of the union has a bore to sealingly receive the resilient seal and an internal seal surface. The metal ring seal is compressed into sealing engagement with the pin portion and box portion sealing surfaces when the union pin portion and union box portion are connected together by a threaded collar. When the union is utilized in a tree cap for an underwater wellhead and the union box portion is attached to the wellhead, the resilient seal serves as a secondary seal and protects the metal seal. Well servicing risers or lubricators may be connected to the tree cap box portion.

  • Patent number: 4897963
Abstract: In order to place in sealed communication two reactor containments provided with openings capable of having a displacement between their axes, an assembly (12) is placed between the flanges (B.sub.1, B.sub.2) delimiting these openings, said assembly comprising two mobile linking parts (30a, 30b) according to a common axis, these parts bearing lip seals (36a, 36b) coming to take sealed support on the flanges under the action of a control (52) and springs (44) mechanism. Two double doors (14a, 14b) can be placed inside the openings and the linking parts in order to ensure separation of the containments. These double doors are formed of doors (16a, 18a, 16b, 18b) interconnected by means of magnets (62a, 64a, 62b, 64b) authorizing a certain relative sliding.

  • Patent number: 4893846
Abstract: Fittings for cylindrical members such as pipes, tubes, and rods. A nut main body has internal camming surfaces formed by threads on a bore or recess inner surface, and a cap bolt has a through bore, and a longitudinally segmented shank defining clamping legs. External camming surfaces defined by threads on the remote ends of the clamping legs from the bolt head fit within the internal camming surfaces with the bolt head engaging the nut main body so that the internal and external camming surfaces are contained within the nut main body and protected against damage. A cylindrical member fits through the cap bolt bore and into the nut main body recess axially beyond the internal camming surfaces. Further tightening of the cap bolt causes camming action of the camming surfaces to occur, forcing the clamping legs to bend in cantilever fashion so that their remote ends clampingly grip the cylindrical member. Suitable seals are provided to keep the camming surfaces protected.

  • Patent number: 4854349
Abstract: A sewage draining device having a drain coupling, an independently suspended tubular housing, a flexible, extendable drain hose and a dual closure cap. In storage, the hose is fully retracted within the housing with the dual closure cap closing both the hose and the housing. For drainage, the dual closure cap is disengaged from the housing and the cap/hose combination may then be extended from the housing to a sewage receiving tank. The dual closure cap is then removed from the hose for drainage. The drain coupling and the housing, while connected to each other to complete the closure of the hose in storage, are independently suspended from the vehicle, whereby the device will withstand transportation without incurring damage or causing damage to the vehicle.
