  • Patent number: 5884660
Abstract: A valve apparatus comprises two housings which can be alternatively connected to one another and separated from one another and possesses an orifice. Each housing holds a flap which is pivotable about an axis of rotation and has a disc and a pivot. The flap can be swivelled into a closed position in which it closes the orifice of the relevant housing at the flat mouth surface of the orifice. Each axis of rotation passes through the mouth area of the relevant housing at an acute angle. Each pivot is pivotably mounted in a hole of the relevant housing, which hole completely surrounds said pivot in cross-section, and is sealed from the housing. This gives a stable support and good sealing of the pivots and, in combination with the discs adjacent to one another when the housings are connected together, makes it possible to avoid contamination of the environment by the transferred material and contamination of the latter by materials present in the vicinity of the housing.

In various embodiments of the apparatus the sleeve takes different forms. In one embodiment, the sleeve is an enclosed, double-walled tubular bladder. The sleeve is inflated for radial expansion via a valve and valve stem in fluid communication with an airtight chamber formed by the sleeve. In one embodiment, the valve stem extends axially within the bore of the conduit, exiting the outlet end of the conduit and terminating at the valve.

Abstract: A sealing element adapted to be disposed in a slitshaped, preferably annular gap, comprises an internal gas-filled cavity with an inlet in one end and an outlet in the other end for a hardening filling medium adapted to be introduced into the cavity under pressure so that the cavity is filled and the element is expanded so that the gap is sealed. The outlet (15) is connected to a closed chamber (14) adapted to receive the gas which is driven out of the cavity (2) in the flexible element when the cavity is filled with filling medium (16), so that the displaced gas can be compressed in the closed chamber (14') and exert a counter pressure on the filling medium (16') in the sealing element while the filling medium is hardening.

Abstract: The preferred and illustrated embodiment is a connector adapted to be joined above a blowout preventer and below the rotary table of a drilling rig. It collects the annular flow of returned drilling mud and directs mud to an incorporated, radially directed connective nipple. It enables the blowout preventer to be adjusted in location relative to the drilling rig and further accommodates a variable level of drilling mud in the annular space. The radial nipple connects with a mud line extending at some radial direction with a slope causing the mud to flow by gravity from the annular space to remote located mud tanks.

To accomplish the foregoing objectives, a plurality of pins are carried by one member and pass through bores in the opposite member. The pins are longitudinally extended simultaneously with a common internal extending force and stops are affixed to the ends extending through the second member snugly against the surface thereof. Upon release of the common extending force, all the pins attempt to restore to their original positions with equal restorative forces being equal and opposite to the common extending force applied thereto.

  • Patent number: 4216981
Abstract: A connector for connecting lengths of metal tubing such as used for air-conditioning or central heating ducts, comprises a cylindrical end part for insertion into an open end of the tubing. In order to provide a seal between the connector and the tubing the connector has a recess containing a hollow, flexible sealing ring into which fluid can be injected to expand the ring. In order to ensure an adequate seal both before and after expansion of the sealing ring the latter has outwardly projecting sealing flanges which, before expansion of the sealing ring, make a seal due to their own inherent resilience and/or the resilience of the sealing ring, and, after expansion of the sealing ring, form a seal under compression. In one embodiment of the connector a sealing flange is adapted to fold over and lie between the respective faces of the connector and the tubing to prevent metal to metal contact between them.
